| Metal Digs + Rarities
I've been trying to revisit albums and kill my backlog lately, so this is just stuff I've been slammin'. Some of these don't have too many ratings, others are well known, though. My ratings are what they are, I could be overselling/underselling some of these but I firmly believe they are all worth a listen.
Also, yes, my avatar is two Indian guys. No, I will not be changing it... anytime soon! | | 1 | | Wicked Innocence Omnipotence
Twisted tech/brutal death metal... I have bumped this to a 5, it is one of my most listened to albums.
Favorite Track: Thoughts
5/5 | | 2 | | Sadistic Intent Ancient Black Earth EP
A pretty fantastic death metal EP.
Favorite Track: Funerals Obscure
4/5 | | 3 | | As Divine Grace Sumo
The album name is "Lumo" but someone made a mistake on submitting it. Very pretty sounding gothic doom / rock.
Favorite Track: Gash
4/5 | | 4 | | Akercocke Choronzon
Always a great mix of prog / black / death from Akercocke. One of my favorite bands for a long time now.
Favorite Track: Leviathan
4/5 | | 5 | | Obtained Enslavement Soulblight
Great symphonic black metal, though I don't love it as much as Witchcraft, that one is hard to beat.
Favorite Track: The Dark Night of Souls
4/5 | | 6 | | Funeral From These Wounds
Awesome gothic doom metal, I can easily see me bumping my rating for this.
Favorite Track: Saturn
4/5 | | 7 | | Ahab The Call Of The Wretched Sea
Extremely good funeral doom, probably my favorite from the band at this point.
Favorite Track: Below the Sun
4/5 | | 8 | | Depravity (FIN) Silence of the Centuries
A pretty cool, and cold sounding death metal EP from the early 90's.
Favorite Track: Phantasmagoria
3.5/5 | | 9 | | Paysage d'Hiver Paysage d'Hiver
Anyone who knows black metal knows / should know this guy, pure atmosphere cranked to 11.
Favorite Track: Welt Aus Eis
4.5/5 | | 10 | | Novembre Materia
Well... these guys are my current favorite band for sure.
Favorite Track: Reason
5/5 | | 11 | | Dreams Of Sanity The Game
Quirky symphonic prog metal with excellent female vocals.
Favorite Track: Time to Set the Stones
3.5/5 | | 12 | | Death Symbolic
Not many words are needed here, it's Death. This is definitely my favorite album from them.
Favorite Track: 1,000 Eyes
4.5/5 | | 13 | | Blotted Science The Machinations of Dementia
Tech, tech... and more tech!
Favorite Track: Amnesia
4/5 | | 14 | | Alchemist Organasm
Kind of hard to pinpoint this one, experimental prog that sounds kind of sludgy at times... but pretty damn cool.
Favorite Track: Single Sided
3.5/5 | | 15 | | Esoteric A Pyrrhic Existence
One of the best funeral doom metal bands.
Favorite Track: Rotting in Dereliction
4/5 | | 16 | | The Foreshadowing Days Of Nothing
Fantastic gothic doom. This use to be a 3 for me, I made the mistake of sleeping on it.
Favorite Track: The Fall
4.5/5 | | 17 | | Takafumi Matsubara Strange, Beautiful And Fast
A heavy, fierce grindcore album. Worth listening to especially if you like GridLink.
Favorite Track: Halo of Lies
3.5/5 | | 18 | | Phlebotomized Skycontact
I adore this album. It's probably my favorite dreamlike atmosphere in a 90's metal album that I have heard. The last four songs, AKA "I Hope You Know" is some of the best music ever, on par with Devin Townsend's Funeral - Bastard - The Death of Music stretch on Ocean Machine for me.
Favorite Track: A Cry in July
4.5/5 | | 19 | | Hourglass The Journey Into
Horribly overlooked, great prog metal. Utah bands have it rough.
Favorite Track: The Circle Breaks
4/5 | | 20 | | Doedsmaghird Omniverse Consciousness
A wild, fun experimental album from Vicotnik of Dodheimsgard.
Favorite Track: Sparker inn en åpen dør
4/5 | | 21 | | Ved Buens Ende Written In Waters
This one was a long time grower, I always knew it was original and solid. Trippy as hell it is, however.
Favorite Track: Autumn Leaves
4/5 | | 22 | | Windir 1184
I have always liked this one, and it has slowly been climbing up more and more to me. R.I.P Valfar.
Favorite Track: Journey to the End
4/5 | | 23 | | Anacrusis Reason
Kickass thrash metal. I'm always impressed by this band despite not being much into thrash.
Favorite Track: Terrified
4/5 | | 24 | | Unholy (FIN) From the Shadows
Incredibly bizarre experimental doom... but in a good way.
Favorite Track: Gray Blow
4/5 | | 25 | | Pestilence Testimony of the Ancients
This one is very good, though I definitely prefer their first two albums. Worth hearing no doubt, though.
Favorite Track: Prophetic Revelations
3.5/5 | | 26 | | Myrath Legacy
Very good, and catchy middle eastern progressive metal.
Favorite Track: Nobody's Lives
4/5 | | 27 | | My Dying Bride Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light
Gothic doom metal masters.
Favorite Track: The Prize of Beauty
4/5 | | 28 | | Mayfair Die Flucht
Pretty cool, hidden prog metal album with some strange vocals. I only listened to this because Casavir mentioned it on discord, and he always listens to great stuff.
Favorite Track: Adam
3.5/5 | | 29 | | Skepticism Stormcrowfleet
One of the earliest funeral doom albums. I am so happy this one finally clicked with me. It is not something I listen to often, but when it hits, it really hits. It has one of hell of a unique atmosphere going for it.
Favorite Track: The Gallant Crow
4/5 | | 30 | | Solitude Aeturnus Into The Depths Of Sorrow
This is some classic doom metal. It's one of those albums that I just like even more with each listen.
Favorite Track: Dream of Immortality

05.12.25 | 24 is in my top 5 funeral doom albums
was going to check out 1 but never did
from the little that i know from this list imma say kewl | Azazzel
05.12.25 | excellent picks. love me some goth doom and quirky prog as well. I think I missed that Phelebotomized but love the others, such a unique group. agreed on Anacrusis great licks, a little tech influence on thrash does a lot for me too.
that your favorite Novembre? everything I've heard from them has been great yea
will check The Foreshadowing | Hyperion1001
05.12.25 | sweet list. wicked innocence, Akercocke, and phlebotomized are elite picks. | Hawks
05.12.25 | 4, 6-9, 12, 13, 15, 21, 22, 24 and 25 all slay anuses. | RVAHC13
05.12.25 | I’ve been listening to 2 a lot lately, very excellent. | Spag
05.12.25 | @brickhed 24 is great, I dig their second album too, I gotta listen to their last two again because my ratings for them need updating. I love 1 a lot, definitely Wicked Innocence's best album.
@Azazzel Yup I love Phlebotomized, mostly the 90's material but the newer stuff is cool. Anacrusis is pure fun, I have yet to hear their debut so I gotta get on that. Materia is definitely my favorite Novembre, yeah. The drummer from Novembre is currently in The Foreshadowing too which is neat.
@Hyperion1001 Right on, I love all those bands.
@Hawks 100% true, great albums.
@RVAHC13 Yeah that one is really good, my rating probably undersells it but it is quite rare for me to give EPs higher than 4. That band is highly quality death metal for sure, though. | Egarran
05.12.25 | Thanks for this.
But why would you change that lovely avatar? | Spag
05.12.25 | @Egarran Now that you mention it... I should keep it! | rage11111ro
05.13.25 | Impecable taste mate | Dedes
05.13.25 | From the Shadows is one of the freakiest things I've ever jammed
If you haven't jammed it you'd really dig Lunarterial by Swallowed. Also freaky weirdo death doom iirc from Finland | Hawks
05.13.25 | ^^^^^ Swallowed is sooooo good. | naughtcturnal
05.13.25 | Yo Spag check Funeral’s 2nd album “Fields of Pestilent Grief” if you haven’t already. Album has predominantly female vox and it slays as much (if not more than) “From These Wounds”. Nice list, haven’t heard a lot of these. Jamming the Novembre album rn | Hawks
05.13.25 | Fields of Pestilent Grief is Funeral's best indeed. | Spag
05.14.25 | I went ahead and added five more albums to the list.
@rage11111ro Thanks!
@Dedes Yeah From the Shadows is something else... super cool, though. I have seen Swallowed before on bandcamp yeah, just never listened to it. I shall keep it in mind, thanks for the recommendation.
@naughtcturnal Oh yeah, I really dig Fields of Pestilent Grief, I gave it a 4, but it has been a while since I slammed it in full. I have to go hear their debut again as well, I have not heard it in a long time and entirely forgot it honestly. Nice, hope you dig the Novembre album.
@Hawks It rules for sure. | budgie
05.14.25 | *teleports in
