MAY 1ST - REC'D BY JOSH D

ANALYSIS: Maybe I'm an idiot bros but this does absolutely nothing for me. Its so friggin disjointed and all over the place and I know that's the appeal....but yeah. I get being avant-garde and I love weird stuff but this is just too weird for my tastes tbh. I don't have much more to say lol. Maybe I need some more time with it. I don't see the need to ever return either. Tough spot boys lmao.

MAY 2ND - REC'D BY TOMSTEIN

ANALYSIS: 0-2 to start this month. This album is fucking terrible, straight up lol. The most sterile doom riffs I've ever heard in my entire life. The atmosphere is dry and uninviting. Idk boys, this album just sucks. Every riff sounds EXACTLY the same as the one that came before it. The only saving grace is the vocals, they rule. Everything else sucks hard. Very bad album.

MAY 3RD - REC'D BY JRLIKESTODANCE

ANALYSIS: The production on this thing is so damn crisp and on point, mixing a cold future garage sound with kinda minimal yet still danceable post-dub and some super funky alternative R&B. My only complaint is that I wish there were no vocals. They’re not always present and it's not a HUGE gripe but I really think that my personal experience would’ve been better without them. Either way, this is some really sweet futuristic sounding stuff and a cool mix of genres.

MAY 4TH - REC'D BY NEXCELERIS

ANALYSIS: HERE WE GO BABY!!! This is some PERFECT 90s brutal/technical death metal in the Suffocation vein and I'm here for it. Chunky ass riffs, insatiable blast beats and gutturals from the pits of hell. What else do you really need in a bdm album? Not much tbh. The production is muddy in a good way, perfecting the filthy feeling that all dm should have. Just an absolutely killer album here bros. If you dig dm, jam this now.

MAY 5TH - REC'D BY EBOLA

ANALYSIS: I'm not a ska follower by any means and idk if I've ever heard a full ska album until now but this RIPS. This gives me a huge feeling of nostalgia from the ska punk/emo mixture. Gives me vibes of carefree summer days. Just a warm and upbeat album that makes you feel good. The vocals are amazing, the horn sections are well placed and killer, the drums are rhythmic and funky. This thing just rules insanely hard.

MAY 6TH - REC'D BY DAVEYMONSOON

ANALYSIS: Damn....this one was very disappointing/underwhelming. Honestly a lot of this feels like a ripoff of bands like Dissection and Vinterland just without the intensity or powerful atmosphere. Theres riffs yeah but idk if its the production but they just don't pack that punch like they do for a lot of the early Swedish meloblack crowd. Its definitely not bad but I can't see myself turning to this over other albums of its kind.

Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett

MAY 7TH - REC'D BY PYROFLARE77

ANALYSIS: Man what an absolutely incredible album. My only prior experience with Venetian Snares is Doll Doll Doll, which is equally as amazing tbh, but this is a completely different beast. The eloquence to mix the beauty of classical music with the intensity of drill and bass and breaks is friggin incredible. This album feels like a Broadway musical on acid. I definitely have to check more VS stuff because he's 2 for 2 in my listening experience. What a unique take on DnB bros.

MAY 8TH - REC'D BY BRICKHED

ANALYSIS: Very very very weird album lol. Its like a mix of symphonic prog rock and cybergrind which shouldn't work together, but somehow doesn't sound awful. Don't get me wrong, a lot of this is a mess with crazy operatic vocals and keyboards mashing up with blast beats and just sounding wild 100% of the time. I can't say that I got no enjoyment out of it though. It's a fun and super quirky album. I just can't see myself jamming it much at all.

MAY 9TH - REC'D BY DEMON OF THE FALL

ANALYSIS: This one is kinda tricky. I very much dig the trip hoppy, jazzy atmospheric DnB sound presented, but it never FULLY grabs me tbh. But it still rules. FUCK LMAO. The vocals are really quirky and very soulful This feels a lot like wandering down a desolate, dingy alleyway while hammered and on acid right before the sun comes up. That hangover hitting you quicker than expected. I definitely dig this but I think there's a lot more for me to unpack. Will revisit very soon.

The Ape Of Naples

MAY 10TH - REC'D BY GABBA

ANALYSIS: Extremely interesting and twisted sounding album right here. Kinda has the feeling of going to the circus on acid. Kind of like industrial darkwave and a classical influence mixed with a really trippy dark ambient sound. It kind of meanders but not in a bad way. This particular meandering is like trying to see what’s behind every door of a madhouse. You never know what you’ll find next. This shit rules hard.

MAY 11TH - REC'D BY CHIPPE

ANALYSIS: Started off a tad slow for me but really picked up hard. This sounds like it could be the soundtrack for The Lost Boys. Definitely a very dry kind of production, like this was recorded in a desert. The melancholic atmosphere goes well with the deep, doom like basslines. Vox are a nice blend of low pitched crooning and an almost black metal like howl. Rules hard bros. One of the better gothic rock albums I've heard tbh.

MAY 12TH - REC'D BY WIDOWSLAUGH123

ANALYSIS: I love me some hardcore punk but this one doesn't really hit the spot. I don't think its filthy and raw sounding enough for me tbh. The vocals are also very grating imo. Its basically a mid paced affair and does definitely have some good riffage throughout but like I said, the production just doesn't do much for me.

MAY 13TH - REC'D BY MYSTAGOGUS

ANALYSIS: Well I guess you learn something new every day. Aggrotech was a genre that I was not familiar with, but after this, I will be jamming more. This album is suuuuuper dark and industrial but also still very danceable as well. The beats hit so damn hard and almost have a black/death metal vibe in their intensity. Vocals sound like Golum screaming incessantly while being dragged through the mud. Very haunting and futuristic. Very awesome album right here.

MAY 14TH - REC'D BY ZAC124

ANALYSIS: Ok so this one is pretty much a complete ripoff of the early Gothenburg scene. Band is from the area but came around after the initial surge of In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. Like I said, it’s a complete copycat of those bands but the riffage hits hard and I dig the rawer production. Always a plus for me nowadays. Vocals are also a ripoff but very well done and intense. Definitely a very good melodeath album, just not original. But hey, we can’t all be completely original all the time!

MAY 15TH - REC'D BY BUDGIE

ANALYSIS: Who doesn't love some feelgood Celtic folk music? This is awesome stuff. Very uplifting and the melodies will transport you right to an Irish pub dancing and drinking with all of your buddies. Has some beautiful female and male vocals at times but is mostly instrumental. My only complaint is that this probably could've been cut by like 15ish minutes. Either way, a very warm listen. Good stuff.

MAY 16TH - REC'D BY FUTURES

ANALYSIS: Ok so I definitely see the appeal of this one and maybe it’s a “you had to be there” type of album….but it’s really not doing it for me. The production is god awful, the songwriting feels a bit messy to me and the vocals are kinda lazy sounding. Definitely emo that almost borders on slowcore at times, which is a sound that is already iffy for me. Idk bros, this really doesn’t excite me. I actually kinda hate it. :[

MAY 17TH - REC'D BY VELDIN

ANALYSIS: Alright this is one of the most off the wall post-hardcore albums I’ve ever heard. I don’t quite know how to describe it tbh. The contrast in the vocal styles is insane. I thought it was female vocals but apparently they’re not lol. The riffage is some of the most experimental I’ve heard in this genre and the basslines are friggin juicy. This honestly is a lot to digest and requires more jams but I do know I love it.

Hide Behind The Silence EP 1-5

MAY 18TH - REC'D BY COTTONSALAD

ANALYSIS: Finally checking more Vladislav Delay!!! Tbh this is almost on par with Multila for me but is way different. This goes for a way darker and glitchier post-industrial/dark ambient sound that borders on harsh noise at times. That minimal techno vibe is still there but this sounds a lot more apocalyptic. 5 EPs clocking at 56 minutes total is easy to digest. Loving this a lot.

21PeeWee Longway
The Blue M&M 4

MAY 19TH - REC'D BY EYESWIDESHUT

ANALYSIS: Just the type of vibe I need right now. Trap/gangsta rap from Georgia that hits all the spots I look for in modern hip-hop. Has that gritty, bass heavy trap production that was popular in the 2010s. Peewee’s flow is more high pitched with that Southern drawl being very noticeable and lyrics about all the hood tales you can imagine. Makes you wanna bang your head until it falls off your shoulders.

MAY 20TH - REC'D BY KINGDOK

ANALYSIS: Man this is some good shit. Part mathcore, part skramz, and part some super weird prog metal. This kinda sounds messy but in a beautiful way. The riffage is whacky as all hell and we even have some nice jazzy big band-ish inclusion in the madness. The vocal performance is unhinged. The screams are oozing with emotion and the cleans are eerily weird. Very good stuff overall.

MAY 21ST - REC'D BY FARMEROBAMA

ANALYSIS: I've never been a huge stoner rock/metal fan but this band always hits the spot. The riffs crash down upon you like the friggin god of thunder. Every riff here feels like it would weigh 500 pounds...if you could weigh riffs. The vocals are covered in reverb and compliment the riffage perfectly. This band must get stoned and write the heaviest riffs ever. I love the desolate sounding production. Album just rips anuses.

MAY 22ND - REC'D BY WRYN

ANALYSIS: Oh yeah this is a VIBE. Super dark yet fun and energetic mix of ambient house, acid techno and IDM. This sounds like something the vampires from Blade would listen to while drinking blood in their nightclub. Danceable and eerie and always feels like something is lurking around the corner. Sounds dirty and dingy and I friggin love it. A tad overlong but engaging more often than not.

MAY 23RD - REC'D BY ROWHAUS

ANALYSIS: Uhhhh wow there is A LOT going on with this one. Industrial hip-hop is the main sound here with it's icy synths and freezing cold atmosphere but there is also heavy dark ambient and noise elements that I've never really heard on a hip-hop album. Absolute top notch stuff. I'm not the biggest fan of political hip-hop though tbh and that's what most of the lyrical content is about. Luckily this guy's maniacal flow makes up for it. Need more time with this one.

MAY 24TH - REC'D BY ARTHROPOD

ANALYSIS: Pretty cool alt metal with some funk metal and nu metal tendencies. All female band from Indonesia and these girls can definitely rock out but its just not all that engaging a lot of the time. There are some damn good riffs sprinkled in and the vocals rule for the most part but its just too inconsistent for me to ever come back to it tbh. Still a decent for a listen or two though.

MAY 25TH - REC'D BY FEARTHYEVIL

ANALYSIS: Nonstop friggin riffage here boys. From the very beginning you’re hit with riff after psychedelic, stoned out riff accompanied by reverb covered and beautiful crooning. This is like a post-hardcore/stoner rock combo and it really works. At only 29 minutes it doesn’t overstay its welcome but also I feel it could’ve expanded on some of the ideas and riffs. Still super enjoyable regardless.

MAY 26TH - REC'D BY DEDES

ANALYSIS: So glad I finally jammed some of this band’s stuff because they are AMAZING. They definitely are heavier than the typical melodic hardcore band as they are heavily influenced by thrash, hardcore punk and groove metal. The mix of the brutality and rifftastic grooves with the heavy emotion of emo/hardcore and the upbeat yet heartwrenching vocals is just perfectly done. Band rules so insanely hard. Can’t wait to finish their discog!

MAY 27TH - REC'D BY FURTHERDOWN

ANALYSIS: Ohhhhh this is some desolate sounding stuff right here. A long and drawn out post-rock/metal sound with some dense atmospheric sludge heavily included. Also some very nice soothing ambient/glitchy parts sprinkled in throughout. Riffs hit hard during the heavy parts and the atmosphere is like wandering a desert during the softer parts. Vocals range from rough growls/shouts to a hypnotic spoken word-ish chanting. A lot to unpack but this rules hard.

MAY 28TH - REC'D BY DONCHIVO

ANALYSIS: I wasn't sure about this at first but it got better and better as time went on. This has a spacey, psychedelic Neurosis sound going on. Almost tribal in a sense. There’s a certain Type O gothic fog hanging over this thing as well. Haunting in a warm sort of way. The riffs are doomy at times trippy as hell and the vocals are hypnotizing in a vampyric way almost. Pretty sure this will be a perfect Halloween/October/fall album in general.  Very amazing stuff!

MAY 29TH - REC'D BY OMIK1116

ANALYSIS: Ohhhh man this is right up my alley bros. These guys play a mix of sludgy, crusty metalcore and soaring atmospheric black metal and it is a match made in heaven. The trems glide elegantly over an atmosphere that sounds like a man puking out tar. The vocals are just as nasty as the music itself with nasally snarls making you think the this guy is screaming at you specifically. Killer shit right here.

MAY 30TH - REC'D BY S0NICX

ANALYSIS: I hate this so much. I think I hate this more than any other awful twinkly djentcore album I’ve heard so far, and I hate a lot of them. The vocals here make me quite literally cringe. So whiny and nasally and just terrible. It isn’t any better instrumentally. The same shitty djent riffs with squeaky clean production. You’ve heard this a billion times. God awful atrocity of an album.

MAY 31ST - REC'D BY MKMUSIC1995

ANALYSIS: I hate that I waited so long to get into Rush. This fucking RULES. You know it’s about to be a spacey riff fest right from the opening track. Just tons of feel good prog rock. Juicy basslines and soulful drumming accompany the funky riffage and operatic vocals. The keyboards are a HUGE factor in creating that cosmic atmosphere. Just an absolutely killer album. Different from Clockwork Angels, but just as sick. Gotta finish the discog asap!
