| brickhed's new noise/idm album??
thought about getting some users to peer review it but I've listened to it 2 times now and it seems solid to me.
I don't think people should pay for digital files so go download it plz.
nother reason I didn't lean into peer review is because bandcamp wouldn't let me make one download code, only a minimum of 100. it's stupid. | | 1 | | Groesk Eskark-O

Half harsh noise and half IDM, since I couldn't figure out how to mix the two and make it sound good. tried to make the harsh noise portion interesting. | |

04.09.25 | This is some wild stuff, I don't know what I was expecting honestly but this was chaos. Sounds like a schizophrenics ASMR half of the time and some lo-fi digital fusion the other. Interesting mixing choices for the IDM half I will say, I had to adjust my volume multiple times. Interesting stuff though. | brickhed
04.09.25 | honestly i probably should have made all of the idm tracks the same decibel like i did before but I thought it wasn't too big of a deal other than the more dungeon synthy track | CottonSalad
04.09.25 | yo! will jam later today | brickhed
04.09.25 | also ratings are appreciated, kind of gives me a gauge of how well i did outside of written feedback | CottonSalad
04.09.25 | thanks for sharing : )
I liked "Gin" the best, mostly for its patience between the 3 and 7 minute mark, but the ideas of 'rupture' (which were present a little in the tracks before and after) felt good too, and the way it sidechained into a local pulse around 2:20 was a really **musical** moment that felt like it might provide a bridge between your noise and idm ideas!
The first few noise tracks felt really driven by gesture and local repetitions that created a sense of pulse, in a different way, that could also mix into your take on idm? Generally, I didn't find much in the idm side of the record, but I did like the sound design choices around 2:20ish in Dirge...maybe it was just the context of the sonorities around it, but the layering perked my ears!

04.09.25 | so you mean using the noise to make a beat, then go from there?
I've toyed with that idea before, especially since my looper pedal has a drum preset and i can change the tempo. The drum preset speed is attached to tempo, which can create a beat somewhat.
I'll try that more next time. I kinda want to focus on more atmospheric stuff with noise, kinda like what I did with Amalka Kaba. And an added emphasis on sampling, since I have a 3.5 to instrument cable, which means I can sample from tapes and CD's, which is pretty cool. | CottonSalad
04.09.25 | not necessarily using the noise to make the beat -- as you seem to have ideas for beats that aren't noise driven -- but some way to play with getting between the two? The part I mentioned around 2:20 (more accurately between 2:10 and 2:20) got awfully close to being a "bass drum" sound of sorts...a little EQ and an 808 sample would fit right in lol
...and then I guess through some more futzing around a kind of middle space, something might pop up that is fruitful? the tech you use will definitely have a lot to do with what's possible there...not to mention unwieldy creative processes and all haha
Amalka Kalba was cool -- felt like a primer for Gin (which seems to follow a similar path, but more fleshed out?) -- that direction suited my ears more than the rest for sure. | brickhed
04.09.25 | I'm a bit limited in my setup, although I can cobble something together. I've thought about getting a drum machine for noise anyway, since it can add an interesting element to it.
I'll give that part of Gin a listen again, maybe I'll get what you're on about this time
I do appreciate the ideas and feedback, feels good knowing someone cares about my music enough. | CottonSalad
04.09.25 | haha, yeah...sorry if my rambling ends up not being very useful -- it's fun to chat about making sound, so share stuff anytime : ) | brickhed
04.09.25 | yeah i also enjoy the process of making sound
