| DDD's 2024 picks |
| 1 | | Blood Incantation Absolute Elsewhere
Progressive Metal, Psychedelic Rock
They've done it and I'm so here for it. Death Side of The Moon split in two amazing 25 minute tracks. |
| 2 | | Chat Pile Cool World
Noise Rock, Post Whatever
Hell of a surprise this one. Coming late at me like a postpunk(ish) Nirvana, but in hevy as a truck full of rocks sludge form, where you can still take some gazey soundscapes and riffs very nu (early Korn, Deftones). Pissed off at this fkin world release that simply doesn't leave my headphones. Got them tickets, can't wait to check them live. |
| 3 | | Fontaines D.C. Romance
Post Punk, Alt Rock
These guys just nailed it into my most listened of the year with an impressive and addictive songwriting this itme. Sputnik is slowly warming up to this one. I predicted the Fifa track before I even knew it was going to be on it, even though I don't play Fifa anymore. It’s fun, but still has the depth and ugliness that post-punk should. |
| 4 | | Pyrrhon Exhaust
Experimental Extreme Metal
I knew the first time this band hit me, it would hit me hard. It helps to seem their most focused and consistent work. Hit the road Jack m/ |
| 5 | | Thou Umbilical
Sludge Doom Metal
I guess we're all getting pissed off, I mean... in general... Thou at their fastest, meanest pace. The real news would be if Thou didn't make it to the top 5 of mine. |
| 6 | | Slift Ilion
Progressive Rock, Stoner, Psychedelic
The power trio keeps improving their "no" formula to outer space. Amazing Amazing. |
| 7 | | Spectral Voice Sparagmos
DeathDoom, Funeral Doom
Something tells me a third Blood Incantation member's project will feature this list, with a 4,5. Incredible, nasty Death Metal giving pace to their funeral doom signature. A flawless and fulfilling release. |
| 8 | | State Faults Children of the Moon
Screamo, Post Hardcore
And in 2024 my fave skramz release appeared. About time! Emotional but also with technical and branch out touches to keep me interested to tears. |
| 9 | | Chelsea Wolfe She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
Industrial, Darkwave
Oh dear Chelsea! I missed your show here in Portugal. Another awesome release now back to more industrial (NIN) origins. |
| 10 | | Beth Gibbons Lives Outgrown
Folk
She's indeed outgrown any expectations for me. Really mature (hehe) work. Beth Gibbons lives. |
| 11 | | Pallbearer Mind Burns Alive
Doom Metal, Post rock
The album is very very well written and With Disease is indeed a magical song and ending. I've come to like their previous effort, Forgotten Days, but it was a bit messy, In here they're back to form, while reinventing themselves. |
| 12 | | Dvne Voidkind
Progressive Metal
This time, they brought both Etemen Ænka's broad concepts and Asheran's tight fierce riffs to the table, and guess the result: it rocks m/ for the third consecutive release. |
| 13 | | Better Lovers Highly Irresponsible
Mathcore, Hardcore
It's not ETID or TDEP, but something in the middle, right? It definitely scratches an itch. One of Puciato's best vocal performances. Check it out! |
| 14 | | Krallice Inorganic Rites
Black Metal, Experimental, Death Metal
Since I'm totally lost on the rank at this point, here's the 4 album Black Metal section of 4,5s. My second favorite Krallice album, right after Demonic Wealth—which, unfortunately, you guys will never understand. |
| 15 | | Wormwitch Wormwitch
Black Metal, Thrash Metal
Very cool, fun and savage thrashy BM, it took a good slice of my BM listening this year. |
| 16 | | Black Curse Burning in Celestial Poison
Black Metal, Death metal
It took me a while to get it but suddenly...shopping groceries, while utterly pissed off with a fucking vet trying to suck me to the last cent - there you go m/ |
| 17 | | Paysage d'Hiver Die Berge
Atmospheric BM
And they're gladly back to the more atmospheric side of their sphere... transcendenzzzzzzzz, amirite? Lol. But hey, we love them for it! We just the the time. |
| 18 | | Tribulation Sub Rosa In Æternum
Gothic Rock
Suddenly they surprised everyone with an even more goth approach, and melodic goth vocals. As goth as it gets. Very controversial but I couldn't stop listening to it. |
| 19 | | Hidden Mothers Erosion / Avulsion
Post Metal, Post Hardcore
A very late recommendation I picked up this year, and oh boy, is it good. There are slight screamo influences, but also some Thrice vibes (apparently, though I don’t really care about Thrice) in this emotional post-metal behemoth. |
| 20 | | Opeth The Last Will and Testament
Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal
They say they are back, but I think they never quite left. They keep having real fun with the music they craft and you can tell on each release. I guess the growls brought old friends to visit and see that they still rock. |
| 21 | | The Smile Wall of Eyes
Indie Rock
Really solid release that culminates with Bending Hectic exploding. Surpirsingly solid to jam whenever and wherever. Wait for it to unfolfd and give it the fair chance. |
| 22 | | The Cure Songs of a Lost World
Post Punk
Not an old fan of the band, This album brings the best of Ponography (hehe) but still feels fresh apocalytptic. Amazing comeback. |
| 23 | | Cavern Womb Stages of Infinity
Space Death Metal
BI meets Ulthar kind of death metal. My cup of tea. |
| 24 | | Civerous Maze Envy
Death, Doom, Black
This thing came early in the year, that I almost forgot how awesome it is. Intricate yet beastly bleak DM. |
| 25 | | Exist Hijacking The Zeitgeist
Progressive DM
This has all the ingredients for a bloated record. Yet, 36 minutes in runtime are bloody perfect to this type of proggy jazzy techy djenty metal. They use a lot of melodic vocals like Cynic, but the harshes go straight on Meshuggah. The ballance is kinda perfect and freshy I'd say. Plenty of room to experiment. |
| 26 | | SUMAC The Healer
Sludge, Post, Drone
Now what kind of beast is this? Many can't handle. |
| 27 | | Chapel of Disease Echoes of Light
Death Meatal, Heavy Metal
Well...after the success from the previous one (thar didn't grab me), I feel little people gave enough credit to this one - Somewhat not quite my style something intriguing kept me diving into it. |
| 28 | | Defeated Sanity Chronicles of Lunacy
Brootal DM
First time the band worked for me m/ |
| 29 | | Brodequin Harbinger of Woe
Brutal DM
Want something heavy? |
| 30 | | Dodsrit Nocturnal Will
Black Metal, Punk, Gaze
Awesome brand of gaze bm, with punk hxc leanings. |
| 31 | | Branko SOMA
Electronic, hiphop,pop
Don't have other way to snuff this high in the ranking. Project from a Buraka Som Sistema's member, with the production of a friend of mine. |
| 32 | | Full of Hell Coagulated Bliss
Grind, Hardcore, Noise
another winner. It's punky af. Looks like a grunge band gonne grind. Love it. Jacob Bannon from Converge guest appears on last track, go figure XDr |
| 33 | | Knocked Loose You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
Hardcore, Metalcore
I like most here, with shorter track assaults m/ |
| 34 | | Job For A Cowboy Moon Healer
Progressive Death Metal, Deathcore
Honnestly getting slugdge vibes on some tracks here. Congrats cowboys, you have done a great job! |
| 35 | | Ulcerate Cutting the Throat of God
Progressive DM, Experimental
Honnestly placing the in #35 only come as disappointment. Still a huge listen, as always. |
| 36 | | Aborted Vault of Horrors
Death Metal, Grind
I put Retrogore and Terrorvision above this, but not Maniacult. I get it though, this gets a bit more deathcore production but we get it that it molds to all the collabs. For me its fun af |
| 37 | | Bedsore Dreaming the Strife for Love
Progressive Death Metal, Experimental
If ou like Morbus Chron, or Sweven (band or album for that matter) definitely go for this. |
| 38 | | Panzerfaust The Suns Of Perdition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion
Black MEtal
Despite the hard production, these tracks go hard as fuck. |
| 39 | | Spectral Wound Songs of Blood and Mire
Black Metal, Melodic BM
Previous record have a way more lushy decadent sad vibe (all good things) in the leads mainly. I felt the vocals a bit more filthy too on Diabolic Thirst. I was ecxpecting that too. But after let go of those expectations I've found a banger. |
| 40 | | Inter Arma New Heaven
Sludge Metal, Post Metal
Weird af album, that I happen to like. Feelings are very at the blossom in this one. |
| 41 | | Mur (IS) Múr
Post Metal, Prog DM
If you like post, Gojira and Meshuggah you'll surelly love this. Debut of the year |
