- Along with the usual axing and adding or artists, this league has been stripped down to a starting pool of *128* artists (as opposed to the traditional 160). This means fewer rounds and hopefully a more efficient tourno, which I felt was an issue last year.
- The site is obviously dying and I am not expecting record turnout numbers this year, but I will still be keeping each round open as long as reasonable (approx 48 hours) and aiming to encourage as much participation as possible.
- As per the description, *ALL BALLOTS* are welcome -- you do NOT need to vote for every artist.
- As always, the list of artists was compiled by the Royale Committee and matches were randomly allocated.

You must be aware that for a lot of people (exclusive classical and jazz listeners I'd suggest) there are two genres here...jazz (as represented by Mingus) and 'pop music' (represented by everything else here). |

really? wow, so no exclusive classical music listeners then? there's loads about, prob some jazz ones out there too though I bump into these people less - posh people exist and they certainly consider all non modern classical contemporary music (maybe some modern classical tbh) as 'pop music'

sure, they exist, whatever... not sure I have ever knowingly had a conversation with anyone like that, but I agree that they are almost undoubtedly a thing

Look up ‘classical vs pop music’ and prepare for a lot of search results.
Even wiki defines pop music as any music that originates from traditional pop or rock n’ roll - so yes that’s nearly everything on this list, even some electronic and ambient (but not all). Metal generally would be regarded as pop as its lineage is rock n roll.
Some jazz is pop, some early Mingus but probably not where he went later.

09.13.24 | I’m a horrible person who thinks 90% of music can fit into one of ten broad genres and I’d more or less seek out music if it’s highly regarded in one of those I want new music in without needing to drill into sub genres too much.
Classical, jazz, folk, rock, pop, hip hop, metal, electronic, minimal/ambient, then some ‘world’ aligned genres I’d respect too, opera I guess. Other experimental stuff would sit in the 10%outside of that.
Even then that may be too many genres looking at it :D
I wouldn’t just say classical vs pop though, or classical, jazz, etc and pop - I do carve up the ‘popular culture’ music a bit |

...well that's what we have here on Sputnikmusic.com, not many classical vs pop folk here, otherwise I'd be more aware of whatever you're blabbering on about I guess (as I'd likely have encountered more of that thinking). We have a few jazz heads, a few classical lovers etc. but they're usually a bit more well-rounded than this 'classical vs pop' archetype. I don't see much out there in the wild because I don't move in those (presumed) circles
but yes we do like cutting up genres into tinier pieces than perhaps necessary, although I do enjoy have neater little categories for which to find my desired niches, even if they don't always work as they should! |

Mingus is a bit like that here, not as much, it’s cool but a shame The Cure perished from being up again the most odd one out.
I mean Mingus would definitely be in my top six here anyway. |
