I need to give Deerhunter another try. They didn't click with me before. | kildare
07.13.24 | Meatplow, an old, disappeared Sputnik user, was wildly ecstatic about A Split Second's music when he wrote a review for their 2nd record:
https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/42616/A-Split-Second-From-The-Inside/
The review is so off the hook and in-your-face that it ALMOST reads like a satire by a straight homophobe just trying to be a dick. But Meatplow gave it a Classic-5, so he -- Meatplow had to be a "he" at the time, surely -- was apparently sincere when he wrote it.
Anyway, it's great 1980's, Belgian EBM comparable to Front 242, that's not quite as good in my opinion as their more famous compatriot's music, but it holds up to it reasonably well. Contrary to Meatplow's insistence, however, nothing about this album says "gay" to me. But I'm a 95% straight guy and stereotypically insensitive to subtleties in this department, so maybe I'm missing clear indicators.
Anyway, the review surprised me when I found it and is on my shortlist of outstanding reviews, so I thought ya'll might be interested. I’d be interested to see if you think I’m missing something obvious

07.13.24 | ëvery song is gay if you think hard enough about it | someone
07.13.24 | Orville Peck's "C'mon Baby, Cry" will be the gay-where-you-need-it anthem for years to come for me | kildare
07.13.24 | "ëvery song is gay if you think hard enough about it": Yeah, I was definitely seeing how that's possible when I was going through the lyrics this morning. But you have to be better at poetry than I am to really get it | Rolling Girl
07.14.24 | @Kildare this review is a treasure wtf. I'm checking the album now.
I was at a variety show the other day and someone did a cover of C'mon Baby, Cry", absolutely killed it to. | kildare
