07.11.24 | Only one I gave a decent rating so far this year that you wouldn't have rated / wouldn't fire directly into the sun with a cannon is..
MooM - Plague Infested Urban Dump Of The Future
Grindy, sludgy, surely heavy, should definitely get more attention around here. Discovered it after Voivod posted an article announcing the debut LP stream |
zakalwe
07.11.24 | The problem you’ll have John is you’re digesting it all too quickly. How many times have you found yourself loving an album you first hated or hating an album you loved at first.
Just concentrate on a couple of albums that you like for a few months. Literally two or three and that’s it.
Take your time with them, let them unfurl.
Villagers - That Golden Time |
robertsona
07.11.24 | Sun kin - sunset world |
kildare
07.11.24 | Yup, it's been a damn slow year, even in my lonely underground-genre caverns
1 = 38 is on my list of priority albums to spend more time with. Can anyone tell me if the rest of their discography is worth a serious dig? |
kildare
07.11.24 | "Just concentrate on a couple of albums that you like for a few months."
I'm even slower than that. Sometimes it takes years... |
Demon of the Fall
07.11.24 | I’m pretty useless for 2024 recs, think you have the better ones here already. A few additions perhaps but nothing I’d care to rec.
but… NEW Scarcity is out tomorrow! |
someone
07.11.24 | alright, if at least one of these makes ole curmudgeon JohnnyWell go "eh, not the worst", that's a win
Julie Christmas - Ridiculous And Full Of Blood (cause you liked Sumac and Chelsea Wolfe)
Finem - Not God (folk rock with the heart of Wilco)
Anna Tivel - Living Thing (ghostfolk)
Maruja - Connla's Well (cause you still don't like tuck-in shirt vegan street food bands, read: Squid and BCNR and the like)
Bára Zmeková - Jediný na světě (my local songstress shoutout)
Lo Moon - I Wish You Way More Than Luck (pop for cig-abusing teens)
Emiliana Torrini - Miss Flower (pop for cig-abusing art mothers)
And Also The Trees - Mother-of-Pearl Moon (pop for cloudy-minded doomers)
Murf - Already Dead (nasty and naughty fun-punk)
The Hope Conspiracy - Tools Of Oppression / Rule By Deception (year's best standard leftie hxc)
Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven (soft-hearted punk)
Rhun - Conveyance in Death (atmo bm for bm sommeliers)
Thief - Bleed, Memory (horror movies are your friends)
Mary Halvorson - Cloudward (meditative upbeat jazz) |

07.11.24 | if i had to point out two or three most up your alley it'd be a muffled scream from a locked door, cause i ain't got a clue. |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.11.24 | Umm @kildare Night Time and Pandemonium are my Killing Joke go-tos, defs rec both of those. Extremities has legs too, but it's a pretty draining listen (*that's* an album I could use some more time to digest)
Have been taking quite a bit of time over the last few weeks to go over albums and tracks I haven't given enough time and to touch base with several old favs, and the (v worthwhile) effort has made me self-conscious of which new jams I actually feel motivated to spend more time with. All for deeper listening, but not every record needs me under its skin etc |
Demon of the Fall
07.11.24 | assume the new Macaroom is already on your radar?
Kiasmos is solid
Rhun (2) ^ - wouldn’t have thought to rec it but maybe you’d get something out of it |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.11.24 | Oh damn did Macaroom just stealth drop literally yesterday? Looking at that tracklist and 3 tracks are pretty mid inclusions from old EPs, but will get to that soon
Thread is helpful thank you thank you keep em coming!!! |
robertsona
07.11.24 | Jesus Christ, Emiliana Torrini is still going? |
AsleepInTheBack
07.11.24 | Amaro Freitas - YY was super pretty 3.5 sauce and would recommend at least one whirl for modern jazzy things
Meatbeat Manifesto and Merzbow collab also fun
|
someone
07.11.24 | @sona
yes, and she will keep at it unless you tie her down and lock her away. until then, prepare your strognest no-filter smokes and get moody from remembering your younger days in less than positive light |
Demon of the Fall
07.11.24 | yeah Johnny, I only knew about Macaroom because Spotify decided to actually be useful and ‘flagged it up’ for me
It has a few nice cuts at least
I wanted to like Meat Beat x Merzbow more than I did in the end, but it’s worthy of inspection for sure |

07.11.24 | Thanks Johnny! I had and loved "The Wait" on a mixtape but just never pursued the album. I've been eyeballing the discography for a years, but until now haven't had a good reason to get "under its skin." These guys sound like they're worth it |

07.18.24 | oops i forgot i had this tab open and offer apologies for unfashionable lateness, but I'd be interested to know what you'd think of Still House Plants - If I Don't Make It I Love U. unsure whether it would arouse ebullience or ire but i have no doubt you'd have entertaining Things To Say.
