6/10. A strong start, the energetic tracks on here stand toe to toe with anything on Around the Fur, but it is evident Deftones weren't confident in writing slower tracks yet. Carpenter found one of the coolest guitar tones I've ever heard on this LP, one that I wish we got more of. |

6/10. I hated this on first listen mainly because it's the only Deftones album with truly bad production. Stephen Carpenter's guitar parts on a lot of these songs are lazy, whether he was involved in the writing process or not. It has the same structure of what made Koi No Yokan great, it's just not as developed. |

4/10. The better production than Gore is appreciated, but the songwriting and performances (barring Abe and Frank) are severely lacking here. The title track is the only song with a memorable guitar line and Chino sounds genuinely awful on a lot of the songs. The positive moments on the album are just standard Deftones fare and I don't have any desire to revisit them. |
