Grouplove Ranked

Been a while since I've done one of these! Been jamming a lot of Grouplove lately - rediscovering the songs I used to love. I've always thought they were criminally underrated, especially their recent work.

Healer

I can respect the ambition on this album, with a lot of songs being longer-than-average for Grouplove standards, but man there's a lot of duds.

HIGHLIGHTS: Deleter, Expectations
FINAL SCORE: 2.8 out of 5

Spreading Rumours

This would be ranked much higher if it weren't for the fact that the quality drops off a CLIFF about halfway through. Unfortunately way too front-loaded.

HIGHLIGHTS: Borderlines and Aliens, Shark Attack, I'm With You, Didn't Have To Go
FINAL SCORE: 3.2 out of 5

This Is This

I feel like Hannah transitions into the "lead" singer with this album, and it works out surprisingly well. There's even some (dare I say) heavier songs on this album that were such a pleasant surprise. I just wish it were longer. Has an absolutely killer ending though.

HIGHLIGHTS: This Is the End, Seagulls, Shout
FINAL SCORE: 3.7 out of 5

Big Mess

Why is the average for this so low??? I know it doesn't have a ton of ratings to begin with, but this should be WAY above a 2.8 in this guy's opinion. Solid as hell pop-rock from start to finish.

HIGHLIGHTS: Welcome To Your Life, Do You Love Someone, Cannonball, Don't Stop Making It Happen
FINAL SCORE: 4 out of 5

Never Trust A Happy Song

And all these years later, they haven't quite managed to top their electrifying debut. Sure there's a few skippable songs in the second half, and sure I might be partially blinded by bias, but this album still encapsulates that "summer vacation" feeling better than any of their other albums.

HIGHLIGHTS: Itchin' On A Photograph, Tongue Tied, Colours, Spun, Close Your Eyes and Count to Ten
FINAL SCORE: 4.2 out of 5
