Melody's Echo Chamber

"IsThatWhatYouSaid"

Why do so many neo-psych bands have 1 song just dedicated to being backmasked without much other substance? Deerhunter, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, hell even Janelle Monae when she went that direction... maybe have this incorporated into a more interesting song. It's nothing on its own.

"Le Coeur Bleu"

The same thing, but this one's ¼ the length.

"Snowcapped Andes Crash"

I have no idea how this could be the preferred album by them when the last three on here are just so whatever. Go somewhere dammit.

"Be Proud of Your Kids"

The kid's singing is cute, but it doesn't make up for how forgettable everything else is here.

"Quand Vas Tu Rentrer?"

Kind of circusy? I guess it's a mood piece, but maybe a mood I don't personally feel?

From Pink They Fell Into Blue

"Pêcheuse de Lune"

Sounds like your average s/t song, but with cleaner production. Somehow the production makes it slightly worse? Hard to explain this...

"Bisou Magique"

I actually LOVE that opener chiptune sound, but then it devolves into another bland mood track. This could've been rougher throughout and maybe then I'd love it.

"Endless Shore"

Lowest one on here with an engaging melody (no pun intended.) But it's still not amazing or anything.

3.5/5
22Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Var Har Du Vart?"

The worst song on Bon Voyage is still fairly engaging and cate and really mixes it up by just being a folk pop track. A decent breakup from the album's otherwise chaotic energy.

Emotional Eternal

"Where the Water Clears the Illusion"

The worst song on Emotional Eternal is better than their previous efforts worst songs, but this one just screams "filler." The album barely breaks 30 minutes, so I can't help but think this one exists to push it over from just being an EP, but the rest rules, so I can't complain.

"Crystallized"

This is what "Bisou Magique" could've been. Not really the best song, but it has a good hook and synth fuzz.

19Melody's Echo Chamber
Emotional Eternal

"Looking Backward"

When this was released to tease Emotional Eternal, I got a bit worried since it's a bit more on the bland poppy side than I hope, but hey the bass is tip top and it's catchy, so it could be worse.

"Some Time Alone, Alone"

This one makes me think of church bells for some reason. I like the vocals a lot here, which is actually a little rare for this album. It's fuzzy, but relaxing, but not really shoegazy? Or maybe a little. Man, I wish I liked the debut more.

3.5/5
17Melody's Echo Chamber
From Pink They Fell Into Blue

"Father's Day"

This one is cute. The songwriting is so much tighter than on most of the debut. There's a lot of changes on here too. Almost like a midstep between the first 2 albums.

"Personal Message"

This song is really fun. I like the strings on it a lot. This is the single that got me hyped since it was noticeably better than the first one. Ba ba ba ba.

"Mount Hopeless"

Now THIS is what I'm talking about. Those drums and that lead synth are both incredibly strong. The vocals still flounder a bit, but the song still manages to hold me beyond a feeling.

"The Hypnotist"

Great drums, really intense overall mood. Not much else to say, but I quite like it.

"I Follow You"

A lot of people's favorites, but I'm here to tell you why it shouldn't be. Is this engaging as hell? Yes. Are the drums and guitar catchy and forefronted? Sure. Is this the most original or enticing thing ever? Hell no. It's just a good psych pop song. That's all.

4/5
12Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Desert Horse"

This song is potentially the most insane song on Bon Voyage, and I love most of it, but wow the annoying autotune knocks it down a little honestly. Though with "lowlights" like these, who needs highlights?

4.5/5
11Melody's Echo Chamber
Emotional Eternal

"A Slow Dawning of Peace"

Melody Prochet's ability to catch my ear has gotten only better over time. Is this not a fantastic indie pop song? Beautiful strings back it all up too.

From Pink They Fell Into Blue

"From Pink They Fell into Blue"

This is the main reason this EP exists. Simple, but memorable drums lead the entire thing. It possibly could fit on the debut if it weren't so clean production-wise, but unlike father's day, I think the cleaner sound works really well. Apparently she's fucking freezing.

"Emotional Eternal"

This one's almost like a lullaby and sets up the happy dreamy sleepy vibe of Emotional Eternal very well. The bass comes out immediately. Good shit.

"You Won't Be Missing That Part of Me"

As disappointing as this album is, this song's pretty much flawless. Strong emotional vocals, still hits the -*mood music* vibe, best drums on the album, cool trippy psych breakdown. It's all here. If only this entire album hit me like this one.

"Pyramids in the Clouds"

This one's a jam and a half. Maybe the first time Melody's Echo Chamber extremely felt fun without having to be manic about it? Actually, Shirim exists...

6Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Quand Les Larmes D'un Ange Font Danser La Neige"

You guys should know...Bon Voyage is hands down my favorite 2010s album. And how couldn't it be? With a beautiful epic, lush and progressive. How can something this good be only bottom 3 on an album?

5Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Shirim"

If the radio hits made any sense, this would've hit the top 40. I know Melody's Echo Chamber isn't the most technical band, but I swear Prochet has a great ear for catchy bass and drum parts that don't seem tacky obvious. A little funk guitar and some well-done feedbacked guitar put it all together as a classic.

4Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Cross My Heart"

When I first heart the this song I knew I was experiencing something special. The R&B breakdown section, the flute, the overall gleeful sunshiny first half... it's just so damn good.

3Melody's Echo Chamber
Emotional Eternal

"Alma_The Voyage"

I swear that piano sounds a lot like the guitar from "Visions of Someone Special, on a Wall of Reflections" ... so it's a call back to my favorite song by them? That's fine. Love the lyrics and the build-up a lot here too. The orchestral elements are gorgeous too. I kind of wish this album leaned into those violins and cellos even more through the album, but on this song specifically, it's at a perfect ratio.

5/5
2Melody's Echo Chamber
Bon Voyage

"Breathe In, Breathe Out"

This song is deceptively poppy. Catchy hooks and vocals are here, but it keeps subtle changing That jagged shift to those last 15 seconds are might be the best moment of the entire discography.

Bon Voyage

"Visions of Someone Special, on a Wall of Reflections"

I mean come on, the guitar is just so on point, and the bass? The synths too and just everything. The ending is so pretty too. God thing band's last 2 albums are just so pretty my god.
