Song of the Day: December 2021

This month’s theme is 2021 album pitches! Pick a song from a 2021 album that you think needs more attention in an attempt to get people or hear it. It doesn’t need to be your favorite, just something to spark interest!
1Hiatus Kaiyote
Mood Valiant

December 1st: ArsMorendi

“Rose Water”

This was way under hyped for being their best album yet! “Rose Water” is my favorite song of the year.
2Joana Serrat
Hardcore from the Heart

December 2nd: Trifolium

3 Myele Manzanza
Crisis & Opportunity, Vol. 1

December 3rd: Koris

“Portobello Superhero”

Really great modern jazz with symphonic keyboards. Gives off that perfect cityscape vibe.
4Feu! Chatterton
Palais d'Argile

December 4th: dedex

“Un Monde Nouveau”

Great opener for a great fucking album.
5For Those I Love
For Those I Love

December 5th: Pangea

“I Have a Love”

Not my absolute favourite or even unknown album of the year, but definitely one that had a strong impact on me. It's spoken word house written after the suicide of his best friend and extremely gut punching. This is definitely the album from this year where everyone should be aware of.
Occult Fractures

December 6th: someone

"Doom Journalism"

I decided to go for a moderately conservative choice, seeing as most of my lesser-known favourites of the year are some weird avant-garde electronic albums or are quite pointless to listen as separate songs without the full album experience. Here's a banger from an equally wild and adventurous progressive post-punk album that slipped under the radar of most people.
7Wale (Brazil)

December 7th: fogza

8Rxk Nephew
Slitherman Activated

December 8th: Ryus

"Early Age Death"
9Jeff Rosenstock

December 9th: SlothcoreSam

"p i c k i t u p"

This album needs more attention from the song of the day crew!
Time to get your skank'n boots on boys! The last 1 minute of this song is pure bliss.
10I Feel Fine
The Cold in Every Shelter

December 10th: YoYoMancuso

“Something New to Worry About”
11Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
This is a Mindfulness Drill...

December 11th: Storm in a Teacup

"Soon It Will Be Fire" (feat. Moses Sumney)

From my top 10 2021 album, This Is A Mindfulness Drill: an Album Cover of Richard Young's Sapphire.

December 12th: LeddSledd

13Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

December 13th: JohnnyoftheWell

"In Colour" by The Gathering (from the upcoming album Beautiful Distortion)

December 14th: porcupinetheater

Proper fun post-hardcore/noise rock. Not a super inspiring year for noise rock, so it was nice having a good ripper to come back to.
United Boss Of America

December 15th: Drifter

"Dear Daddy"

This song is essentially a letter to his father where he talks about some of the rough experiences he had growing up and how he wasn't there for him. Very emotionally-hitting song that needs to be more known.
16Irreversible Entanglements
Open The Gates

December 16th: haesslichermensch

"Song Keys to Creation"

It is the second song and quasi long opener of their new album.
17Invent Animate

December: 17: Purpl3Spartan

The song along with the rest of the album captures the wintery aesthetic really well. My favorite album to spin this time of the year.
Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando

December 18th: garas

Since you all don't take metal recs so well, so here is some punk.
19Emma Ruth Rundle
Engine of Hell

December 19th: ridkadm

"The Company"

I've only listened to one album this year since January, and it was Engine of Hell by Emma Ruth Rundle. This song, The Company, is what drew me into hearing it. Also, the video helped. Cottagecore Joker kinda works.
20Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp
We're OK. But We're lost anyway.

December 20th: MiloRuggles

For those that like their musical collectives large and their songwriting fluid. Final section is a rare moment of glory.
21Cold Collective

December 21st: SlothcoreSam (#2)

"Wait for It"

This album came out 3 weeks ago, and it's gonna be in my top 10. The lead singer, Tim Landers passed away a couple of years ago, this album is made up of a collection of demos and ideas he sent the band. The band then spent the next 2 years perfecting the album in a homage to Tim.
5 dollars of every vinyl sale goes to the addiction recovery house tim stayed at:
To Hell With It

December 22nd: dedex (#2)

"I Must Apologise"

December 23rd: ArsMoriendi (#2)

"Tippy Hightailed it"

Obnoxious fun from a short art punk EP.
24Sofia Campos
Lugares Imaginarios

December 24th: porcupinetheater (#2)

B/c it bangs (softly) and is great, and peeps here love Natalia Lafourcade (as they should) but these Sofia albums got 3 rates each.
25Asian Glow
Cull Ficle

December 25th: Johnnyofthewell (#2)

"카리스마 대빵큰오리"

Album is good more people listen to it it is the microphones' not boring parts in full force this song bangs.
26Drug Church

December 26th: deathofasalesman

These guys do the post-punk thing really good even tho they don't usually do the post-punk stuff
Cherry Limbo

December 27th: fogza (#2)

"You're the One"
You Mark Me the Deepest

December 28th: JesperL

"Black Wings Hunt"

Good song by good band.
29Arooj Aftab
Vulture Prince

December 29th: someone (#2)

I think this is what people hear all the time at a rainbow gathering.
30Devin Townsend
The Puzzle

December 30th: rifkadm (#2)

"The Puzzle"

Devin’s popular on this site but it’s my second album heard since January and this month. In terms of his future stuff, I like that this isn’t just another prog album and it’s a genre mash of sorts. Still don’t know how I feel about it but I have this song on repeat.
31Viagra Boys
Welfare Jazz

December 31st: Minushuman24
