10 Favorite VU Studio Tracks

I haven't heard the VU comp yet so I'm sticking to studio tracks. I also haven't heard Squeeze, but do I really need to to make this list?
10The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground & Nico

"The Black Angel's Death Song"

The jarring viola on this is sick. Really puts the noise in early noise rock.
9The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground & Nico

"Heroin"

Probably a lot of people's #1 and for good reason. It's intense with an amazing buildup and great lyrics.
8The Velvet Underground
White Light/White Heat

"White Light/White Heat"

A great crunchy opener to my fave VU album. Proto-punk to the max.
7The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground

"The Murder Mystery"

The only super weird track on their s/t. I love the frequent tempo changes and organ.
6The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground & Nico

"Femme Fatale"

The best of the Nico tracks. Unique concept and catchy chorus. Try not to sing along to this one.
5The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground & Nico

"Sunday Morning"

Lou's vocals are like an elderly smoker's here, but it works. Twinkly, twee, and ahead of its time.
4The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground

"After Hours"

Possibly their most relatable song. Makes me wonder what it'd be like if Tucker released a solo folk album.
3The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground

"Candy Says"

A pro-trans song from 1969 with emotional vocals? And the chorus is absolutely gorgeous? Yes, please.
2The Velvet Underground
White Light/White Heat

"Sister Ray"

When a 17-minute song feels like a 7-minute song you know it's good. Probably their craziest. "Suckin on a ding dong."
1The Velvet Underground
White Light/White Heat

"The Gift"

The lyrics are hilarious and cheeky. Plus that lead bassline is awesome. And the way the band says "aw" is honestly perfect. The ending is perfectly morbid too. I know it's a weird choice for favorite, but c'mon it's so good.
