Non-2021 discoveries

Let us not forget the old gems. I'm always on the quest for discovering more and more (forgotten) gems from the past, this (ongoing) list contains my best finds.
1Vangelis
Antartica

[electronic] - 1983
This was the year when I finally took the chance and explored a little bit from Vangelis' works. I was amazed how beautiful it is. I can totally understand now why was his music so influental for many electronic composers later.
2Demolition Hammer
Epidemic of Violence

[thrash metal] - 1992
Best thras album ever? The angriest, the least. I loved every bit of it. Really energizing stuff. Now I need this vinyl.
3Tarot (AUS)
The Warrior's Spell

[psychedelic rock] - 2015
It wasn't really that long ago when it came out, but it is some really-really excellent psychedelic rock that should be more well-known.
4Exhumed
Gore Metal

[goregrind] - 1998
An all-the-way-through fun and punchy album. It was a great discovery, thanks to budgie!
5Black Sabbath
Born Again

[heavy metal] - 1983
I neglected this album for a very long time due to the very low average ratings everywhere, but I'm glad I was "brave" enough to check this, because I found this a really enjoyable album. The riffs, the riffs!!!
6Poems About The Forest
Schwarzes Licht

[dungeon synth] - 1997
A forgotten 31 minutes long single track demo with the most beautiful synth sounds and great samples.
7Gehennah
Hardrocker

[blackened thrash] - 1995
I think it was a very random YouTube algorhythm rec? Anyway, this is some really fun album, with especially funny lyrics.
8Coroner
Mental Vortex

[tech thrash] - 1991
I should have checked this far earlier... my mind was blown right away. Incredible album.
9Gospel of the Horns
A Call to Arms

[blackened thrash] - 2002
A surprisingly excellent blackened thrash album from the more melodic branch of the genre, which deserves more love.
10Archgoat
The Luciferian Crown

[black metal] - 2015
Probably one of the biggest discoveries of the year, because I became a fan instantly. I can't stop blasting some Archgoat at least every week since then!
11Trouble
Trouble

[heavy metal (+doom & thrash)] - 1990
THIS. A flawless and fantastic album - not a single weak song, a consistently awesome album until the end. This is my current favourite album, since I just can't stop re-listen it over and over again.
12Saint Vitus
Saint Vitus

[doom] - 1984
I was familiar with the band's name for a very long time, but I never really cared enough to jam their stuff... I was so wrong! Awesome traditional doom.
13Obtained Enslavement
Soulblight

[atmoblack] - 1998
How did I not know this band for so long is still a mistery to me... a truly excellent band, with a perfectly consistent discography.
14Skaphe and Wormlust
Kosmískur Hryllingur

[black metal / experimental / psychedelic] - 2019
This collaboration is mind-blowing, like peeking into a completely unknown universe. Not as cathartic as my personal favourites from the Icelandic scene (yes, I'm talking about Andavald), but this is not far behind it.
15The Obsessed
The Obsessed

[doom] - 1990
This album has so much soul in it... and most importantly: it's filled with fantastic riffs. Most doom bands nowadays could just dream about releasing something *this* good!
16Conan
Existential Void Guardian

[sludge/doom] - 2018
This is a really excellent energy bomb album. Filthy riffs, huge sound: I love it!
17Black Sabbath
Headless Cross

[heavy/power metal] - 1989
Probably my favourite Tony Martin-era Sabbath album, which shouldn't be so neglected: because it rules! I dare to say, it is one of the catchiest Sabbath albums, despite it's not perfect (it has some more boring songs, but still).
18200 Stab Wounds
Piles of Festering Decomposition

[death/borderline grind] - 2020
Brutally savage energy bomb. One of the best death metal debuts ever. This EP rips you into pieces.
