Their album Para Quines Aun Viven is a collab between Toundra (post rock band) and NiÃ±o de Elche (flamenco vocalist). Completely unexpected combination if you listen to their independent works, but it is literally one of my favorite albums of all time, this song being my fav from the album. If you have the time, please watch the music video as well, but if not, it is still incredible. Just wait for the ending that explodes my heart every time. Either way, it's like a mixture of my two least favorite genres, jazz and hip-hop. 1.7 END - Oh dear. Loud, distortie guitars with rah rah vocals. Can I lose power again? Another one that's a little over 5 minutes. I'm outside of my body, I'm outside of my body, I'm outside of my body ... Ooo, they snuck in some quiet, ethereal vocals. Trying earn back a few tenths of a point, eh guys? OK. Changing pace at the end. Why does hardcore always sound like it's just a couple of short, unrelated songs stuck together? 2.0 Gil Scott-Herin and Jamie XX - Not looking forward to this one either. Oo, some echoey electronic stuff. That's actually a pleasant surprise. Almost 6 minutes long, but this isn't bad. Thank you, Jamie XX, whoever you are. Weird, trippy little sounds. And I can relate. He feels rock is over worshipped and that criticizing it helps bring down it a peg so people will be more open to other styles of music 2.It makes him look edgy and trendy, as modern music shifts away from organic techiques, he refuses to be left behind with the old farts who insist that music used to be better -Detective Ars has solved another case

Almost three minutes in, and I had just about given up on vocals, but now we get some. Male voice, deep, almost whispering. This is kind of pretty. Let's see if it holds up for 10 minutes plus. Vocals are a little more intense now - guy has moved into a higher range, too. Now some electric guitar slices into you. This song does a good job of building. Oops, now we're into an entirely different movement. Now YouTube cuts the song in the middle for a commercial about kids' pools. Fuck you, YouTube! Skip Ad. Ok, we're back. Damn, I hate when they do that mid-song. Assholes. OK, some fairly dramatic guitar driving the action here. This artist in the video is drawing like a mfer here. Now the vocals have gone back to the original vocal line, but the guitar is still pretty driving. Alright, vocalist is just screaming now. We could do without that. And it's over. Pretty sweet rec. 3.9

ArsMoriendi 08.18.20	"Catch My Heart" Mellow and jazzy. Vibes and sax maily so far. Patton's vocals are fairly chill here and fit the jazz vibe. This isn't bad, but I guess I don't love how little is going on for how long this is. I am not really huge on minimalistic type stuff, and when I occasionally do go for it, it's usually brief. This was okay. 3/5 "Let Them Eat War" Oh, it's pop punk. Pretty meh. That rapping fits the song, but the song sucks, soooo. 2/5 "Black Gives Way to Blue" Grunge. Du Val just sounds like a smoothe Layne, which is kinda a bad thing since grunge vocals are suposed to be grumbly at least a little. The piano and guitar are pleasant and help the sad mood work and it is about Layne's death, so I suppose it's appropriate. Kinda bland. 2.8/5 "Crystallise" Weird hip hop jazz stuff so far. The sax is cool. This is pretty unique. I don't like the rapping much, but I do like the bass and scratches. 3.5/5

I guess that the clean vocalist is hte feature, but he jsut sounds like he belongs in Dream Theater or something, making this even worse. 1/5 "NY Is Killing Me" That high pitched beeping that might give me a headache, let's hope not. I've liked Scott-Heron's vocals on his own work, but what the hell are they here? Mumbly and tired sounding. I'm sorry, but this is so boring and ugly sounding, fuck. I wonder if the original version of this is good. Not the best I've heard from Scott-Heron or even close. 2/5 "Time Stands Still" This is so 80s in a lame way. Aimee Mann is giving this song a reason to exist though, so that's okay I suppose. Neil Peart is known as an amazing drummer, but the drummer here isn't really catching my ear. OK, who's this butt munch rapping over Elton? Jk, I know who it is. Two and a half minutes in, and my mind is glazed over. At least this one is only a little over three minutes, so it has that going for it. Actually, way more tolerable than the average hip hop song - Mr. Thug half sings at times, the beat is good, and it's got Elton doing a line from one of his best songs. But 2.3 is as high as I can go.

Not even halfway through, but kind of bored. Not liking this sax that just came in. Now almost everything stopped for a sour sax solo. (Say that three times fast.) OK, here comes a completely different guitar movement, with some woman talking underneath it. About a minute and half to go, and I'm not enjoying this at all - I can feel my face set in a scowl. That was one of those songs where I started with a score, then kept reducing it as the track went on. 1.9

Screaming and abstract metal soundcapes. 1.5/5 "Then Came to Kill" Record scratching? Hmmm and now hardcore vocals. I kinda like the weird bumble bee guita though, very unique. Haley's vocals are mixed so low that they sound like another song playing. at the same time instead of part of this song. Man, this is abysmal, but the bumble bee guitar style that was there for a second was neat. 1.3/5 "End of the Time" I don't really care for this, but it might as well be a masterpiece compared to that list one. The Korn part makes this way lamer though. Man, this month's picks fucking suck. So many metal choices, even Potsy brought Nu-metal into the mix. You'd think a ft. heavy month would have more electronic and pop choices, right? It had enough okay elements to not bother me, but I don't like this. 2.5/5 "Make Up Dub (Sofheso Remix)" Weird IDM techno stuff, okay.I see the appeal of this, it's like if you took techno and made it so abstract that you could no longer dance to it with a weird robo lady voice. Very futuristic! In a month of terrible choice, this is very pleasing. Outside of that context, it's decent. 3/5

Not my favorite thing, but probably oe the best here so far. 3.4/5 "In and Out of Love" This a guilty pleasure? It's halfway decent though! Like I could get down to this in a club, y'know once COVID ends. 3/5 "It Remembers" Bluesy intro. So far this reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age, oddly enough. Not something I'd expects from a metalcore band featuring a Panic! at the Disco guy. Urie hurts the song though sadly with his whines. Overall this is good enough though. 3.2/5 "High" Is this really featuring Elton John if it's just him being sampled? It's not like he wrote Rocket Man for it to be sampled 40 years later. I mean it's too late, but I wish I knew because I would've disqualified this. Outside of that... this is just gross trap with a Rocket Man sample. 1.5/5

This beat is so boring though, like it doesn't even make me want to dance. It's inoffensive enough sounding, so I don't hate it though. 2.4/5 "Chic Tweetz" Why does this give me 80a Zappa vibes? Like have you heard "The Planet of My Dreams" from Them or Us? Except I guess a bit more synthy. But those backups, uh I actually like this? It's very original and catchy and funny. 4/5 "Jock Powerviolence" Heaviness, ugliness, but at least it was short? 2.2/5 "A Rose by Any Name" So it's apparently about loving your unborn child no matter what. It's a fun dance track, I'll give it that, even if it doesn't have that spark that older Blondie had. 3.1/5 "Symphony of Treble" Finally some good guitar, damn. Good bass too. I like Kazu's voice on Misery Is a Butterfly and it's so interesting to hear it employed in such a different way here. This is a great song. Best of the moth by far, actually. 4.5/5

Divaman 08.30.20	The Beastie Boys - Oh dear God, not the Beastie Boys. Sigh. OK, on with it. Never especially a fan of Santigold either. Some electronic stuff. Tolerable so far. Whoa, singing. (Doesn't feel like it goes with the electronic opening, but OK.) Do The Beastie Boys sing these days? Now a higher pitched bridge. Is that Santigold, or a guy singing falsetto? Very chill song. Much to my surprise, 3.0
Minushuman24 08.30.20	5. Crystalise - Keleketla! - I don't know either of these artists but this fusion of jazz and hip-hop is excellent. I am in love with the instrumental band, and the programmed drums and electronics actually compliment the (assumingly) live band. The MC is not exactly my cup of tea, but they have a lovely flow, with some wonderful lyrics. I will definitely return to this. 3.9 6. Sands of Sleep - END - Not exactly a surprising collaboration, but END is just straight up filthy and I love it. The best current metalcore going on right now, absolutely crushing stuff. 3.8 7. NY is Killing Me - Jamie XX - I love the original version of this song, so I am interested in this collab. Unfortunately I this isn't really doing much for me. Some of the beats are nice, but this fails to be very memorable. Gil sounds rough which makes sense, so it makes me sad that I don't really care for this. 2.8 8. Time Stand Still - Rush - So far this is probably the most tolerable Rush song I've ever heard. The chorus kinda sucks though. But the verses are actually genuinely fantastic, and Aimee is a fantastic addition to this song. 3.5 9. Un Hombre - Exquilra - This is a very pretty song, but unfortunately it doesn't sound exactly spectacular. It reaches into the prog/power metal territory a bit too much for my liking. 2.6 10. Johnny and Mary - Todd Terje - what a lovely floaty song. This is just nice to vibe and exist to. 3.5 11. High Fells - Full of Hell - I really need to check out this full release. It is a meandering noisey affair, if not lacking a little bit of substance 3.6 12. Then Came to Kill - The Chariot - it has been a long time since I heard this album, never was a huge fan. But I love Hayley Williams with all my heart so I'm excited. This is old school abrasive Chariot, lacking heavily on the melody that made them amazing later in their life. Yeah, Hayley's vocals are sadly lacking on this track. Big Disappoint, now I know why it wasn't saved to my Spotify. 3 13. End of Time - Q-Tip - I love Q-Tip, Korn not so much. What is this beat, this is weak as fuck. The Korn portion isn't even offensive. This isn't even fun it is just a nothing track. 1.2
RabbitSeason 08.30.20	(i just read that entries are closed and now i am sad, please accept these submissions in comment form only) i feel that there have been a bunch of (semi) surprising collabs/features lately.... i'll submit a few and you can choose which is actually surprising i guess 1. taylor swift/aaron dessner - hoax. maybe a weird pick from folklore but i honestly like the national's quiet side mixed with tswift vocals a lot 2. tobacco/trent reznor - babysitter. psych pop with the mind behind NIN? weird idea. also not sure it really works for me 3. emma ruth rundle/thou - ancestral recall. not sure how surprising this is, but i feel their styles are pretty different. probably my favorite of the features i've listed 4. since i read the Korn entry my mind immediately went to the abomination that was korn x skrillex - narcisstic cannibal. perhaps it will remind you of a simpler time :)

Cool music video, but I gotta focus on the song. Pausing the music for an action scene? Do I even count this part? Kinda wish you didn't pick the music video, honestly. Wel it's a dragging extended section now of R&B reggae without much hip hop, which is unexpected. It was fun overall, actually. The video helped that. 3.5/5 "TellMeSomethingIDontKnow" Boring modern hip hop with lazy vocals I don't care for. I don't like anything about this honestly. Bland and annoying, but maybe inoffensive? 2.4/5

Thrush - very cinematic, wish the industrial elements werer a bit more pronounced though, could have used more bite 3.3 2. Catch My Heart - the instrumental is great, but i hate Patton's voice here, really very distracting from how hypnotic the rest is 3.4 3. Let Them Eat War - works pretty well and the song is good, but sage doesn't really add much to the br formula 3.6 4. Black Gives Way to Blue - pretty good ballad, tragic event, very simple but it doesn't really need to be complicated 4.0 5. Crystallize - really sick tune, some awesome rhythms here, yugen's vocals are very on point, very well put together as a whole 4.4 6. Sands of Sleep - some nice ideas, but they're buried by some awful production which leaves everything sounding muddy and impactless, the breakdown near the end should have been way more exciting than it was 2.9 (like 3.8 if production was better)
