DORBUSCUS 01.03.19	I havent played Persona 5 yet but I can strongly say that you'll be happy with either one of them. NieR is more action oriented, while Persona from what I've seen is more story driven. Honestly you can't go wrong with both

J() Alexander 01.03.19	Gravity Rush doesn't have a lot of narrative, it's just really fun videogames that I could play for a long time but if you aren't into that and want more narrative... Well, buy Persona. But if all you want is getting lost in gameplay, I hope you already have the best game ever made (talking just about gameplay, of course).

Surely not Bloodborne [; @DORBUSCUS Unchartered isn't my vibe (wasn't sold on the story, writing or characters and they felt like the main attraction), God of War looks awesome but also a little too close to the stuff I've been playing, and I'll have a look over the others
Frippertronics 01.03.19	Nier, by a country mile. Especially if you're concerned about story, Nier's story is more interesting than P5's, which starts out great then takes a nosedive 3/4ths into the game. Both have good replay value, although you can get a lot more done in Nier that will benefit you in the long run.
J() Alexander 01.03.19	Well the game with the best gameplay in the history of videogames so far is obviously and I don't know know why that's even a question DEVIL MAY CRY 4: SPECIAL EDITION WITH A TOTAL OF FIVE CHARACTERS AND EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS MECHANICS THAT ARE COMPLEX AND DEEP AS FUCK GOING FROM REALLY FUCKING DEEP TO "HOW THE FUCK IS THIS DUDE CALLED DANTE EVEN REAL" DEEP... The game wasn't finished in terms of levels and probably story so you fight against the same enemies a lot but WHO CARES ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU HAVE SOME HARDCORE GAMEPLAY BABY HELL YEAH!... But if you aren't into GAMEPLAY too much I guess you can just not play it...

Space Jester 01.03.19	DMC4 is clearly unfinished and overall a less satisfying game than 3 but there’s no way I’m not going to say that 4’s combat doesn’t improve on 3’s in a lot of ways. If 5 takes what they improved on in 4 even further and also y’know finishes the fucking game before they release it, it could easily be the best in the series
J() Alexander 01.03.19	Yeah, for starters 3 is the best option because they probably don't even know what jump canceling is and for them 4 is just an unfinished game that they can't play properly if they don't put a good amount of time into it. 3 is better than 4 in more than one way of course, but when it comes to gameplay and mechanics 4 is infinitely better just by having something as simple as style switching for Dante.

Saros 01.03.19	I'm going to say Persona 5 on the basis that I haven't played Nier: Automata yet (mostly due to me having so many other games to play). I've heard plenty of good things about it though and it seems plenty of people in this thread can vouch for me.
killerK1 01.03.19	I loved both, but gotta go with Persona. I think Nier had a better story, Persona's started going down a bit later on in the game but I enjoyed Persona's gameplay (yea i prefer a turned based rpg bite me) and I loved Persona's characters and social activities. So yea, Persona. Both were great games and worth a playthrough.

Saros 01.03.19	Also while we're on the subject of Japanese action games, Yakuza 0 is great. It's pretty story heavy and the gameplay is standard beat 'em up fare with a fair amount of hype moves, but it's a story that you can get hooked on and leave you wanting more at every turn. It's probably the best story in the series and it's a prequel to the entire series so you can just jump into it with zero knowledge of Yakuza. Highly recommended.

Demon of the Fall 01.03.19	All I know is that although the story takes a while to get going & the ‘everyday nature’ of the tasks/real world can get tedious that Persona’s battle system & game-play mechanics seem highly nuanced/interesting after 20 hours. Maybe it’s just managed to confuse me into thinking that way because I don’t understand everything yet.
Masochist 01.04.19	Ultimately, you won't go wrong with either choice, so I'll say this: if you want what is without-a-doubt the best turn-based JRPG of this generation, with social simulation built-in and a huge cast of characters you're going to care about, go Persona. If you want a game with superlative gameplay and ultra-slick fighting mechanics, that makes you feel like an absolute boss dodging and weaving and slicing and dicing, and a huge world to freely explore, go with Nier: Automata. Either way, you're going to get one of the top 3 gaming soundtracks of this generation.

Observer 01.22.20	I hated persona 5. Its long and has a good bit of depth and things to do, but the dialogue is repetitive and literally makes up half the game time. I have Neir Automata but haven't played it yet. I do recommend divinity os1 and 2 if you havent played.

Planescape is on Nintendo Switch. Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the most hyped upcoming games. The age of obscure 90s gems going unnoticed is over.

Gallantin 06.14.20	They have their ups and downs. Persona 5 is probs the most accessible but even that one has some really dumbass design choices that can actively harm the experience. The most annoying one being that if the MC dies in battle it's an instant game over, no chance to revive him with another character. And when enemies can attack first and One-Hit KO the MC after an hour of gameplay since the last save point, well...yeah that shit turns me right off. But Persona 4 just came out on Steam, commonly considered on of the best games ever, and it's cheap. Worth a go, I say.
