The Umbrella Genre Contest Round 11: Umbrella Battle

2 more out and only 2 left!
1Mr. Bungle
California

The final round has totally new rules! Make me a playlist consisting of 1 song per genre covered in the order of the rounds. All of your choices must be songs I don't already know.

That means: Song 1: Pop
Song 2: R&B
Song 3: Folk
Song 4: Rock/Metal/Punk
Song 5: Classical/Orchestral
Song 6: Electronic
Song 7: Country
Song 8: Jazz
Song 9: Hip Hop
Song 10: Blues

And now for my top 5 most memorable tracks from rounds 1-9:
2White Noise
An Electric Storm

"My Game of Loving” (Frippertronics)

I'll probably check this album out sometime in 2019 because this ruled...
3Akua Naru
The Journey Aflame

"Poetry, How Does It Feel" (Pheromone)

If I do end up checking a hip hop album, it'll likely be this one. I've revisited this a lot.
4Mid-Air Thief
Crumbling

“These Chains” (ZombieToyDuck)

I already checked this honestly. Great album. I even reviewed it haha.
5Crass
Penis Envy

“Bata Motel” (bgillesp)

I have been OBSESSED with this song and honestly in retrospect this should've won the rock round.
6Last Exit
Last Exit

“Crackin'” (NeroCorleone80)

OKAY, now for what you've been waiting for!
Weird is an amazing way, really.
7Abner Jay
Last Ole Minstrel Man

My Middle Name is the Blues (SandwichBubble)

Wow that guitar work is cool as hell! Those delta blues style vocals are entracing too. I’m hypnotized, really. The percusion is so simple, but perfect for the tone of the song!

4.8/5 ROUND WINNER!
8Muddy Waters
Kings of the Blues - Muddy Waters

“Long Distance Calls” (live) (bgillesp)

His voice is deep and somber and the blues riff is very simple and traditional. I like this because it’s straightforward, and blues is a genre that doesn’t need experimentation to interest me. Oh wait, there’s that soloing flashiness and it’s also lovely. He also hits some nice high notes too. Could’ve used a little more variation since it’s 6 and a half minutes. Sorry, have to be nitpicky.

3.8/5 FAILED!
9Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Let Love In

“Red Right Hand“ (Minushuman24)

I already really like this percussion. I’ve been meaning to get into Nick Cave since I love his songs “Tupelo” and “Henry Lee.” Damn, this is catchy though. A real finger snapper. Hmmm, unexpected organ keeps this fresh. The whole vibe is so spooky that all I can think is Halloween.

3.9/5 FAILED!
10Howlin Wolf
Howlin' Wolf

“Goin' Down Slow” (NeroCorleone80)

Off the bat, that piano is sweet. That guitar is so choppy in a great way. This dude’s voice is so pained and expressive, my god. I like his narration, better than Muddy’s even. Did he just say “great googly moogly” ??? What is he Zappa? Haha. Yeah the jamming on the guitar with that piano and drums backing it is wonderful.

4.4/5 PASSED!
