5 Years on Sputnikmusic...

Been on this site for half a decade... oh well. List is "Ars-core." I don't define Ars-core as my favorites per se, but rather artists who make music that is goofy and possibly disjointed, often involve made up characters, and are genre diverse within the same album. For instance: I adore Portishead's Dummy, but it isn't "Ars-core" you know?
1The Beach Boys
Smiley Smile

Most Beach Boys albums wouldn't count, but this one does. Especially tracks like "She's Going Bald" and "Wind Chimes."
2Beck
Odelay

Some Beck albums apply, others don't... kind of obvious which ones are which I think?
3Brainiac
Bonsai Superstar

Literally every release by them including EPs.
4Butthole Surfers
Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac

All of their 80s stuff. I actually haven't heard most of their 90s stuff, but all I know is that piouhgd doesn't count.
5Foetus
Nail

Deaf-Thaw certainly. Haven't heard anything after Gash, but Gash doesn't really count.
6Kate Bush
The Dreaming

Hounds is my favorite, but only The Dreaming and Never for Ever really apply. Maybe like "Coffee Homeground" from Lionheart too?
7Laurie Anderson
Mister Heartbreak

Only know her first 3 solo albums, but they all count.
8The Mothers of Invention
We're Only in It for the Money

My favorite Zappa. I didn't wanna list Zappa and Mothers separately since they're pretty much the same thing where it matters. A lot of his stuff counts, plenty doesn't though, especially his orchestral works.
9Mr. Bungle
California

Yeah... everything by them.
10Os Mutantes
Os Mutantes

Only know this album by them, but wow does it count.
11Parliament
Mothership Connection

Not everything by them, but certainly the lore heavy songs about Starchild, Dr. Funkenstein and Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk.
12Pink Floyd
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Really only this album, and a couple of other Barret songs sprinkled around.
13Pixies
Surfer Rosa

A lot of their 87-91 stuff, especially the stuff on Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa.
14Primus
Sailing the Seas of Cheese

A pretty obvious one. All of their albums.
15They Might Be Giants
They Might Be Giants

Only know their first 2 albums, but they both count.
16Thinking Fellers Local 282
Strangers From the Universe

Only know 2 albums by them, but they both also count.
17The United States of America
The United States of America

Great band with only 1 album. One of my all time favorites.
18Ween
Chocolate and Cheese

Most of their stuff, although White Pepper barely counts. Maybe that's why it's my least favorite lol. Z-Rock Hawaii is included in this.
19The Beatles
Magical Mystery Tour

I almost didn't want to include these guys because they're the biggest band of all time and that's kind of a cheap shot, but with songs like "I Am the Walrus" "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" "Lady Madonna" "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and countless others, how could I not? This was the first band I ever loved, so maybe they helped shape my taste.
20David Bowie
Lodger

Honorable mentions: A handful of Bowie songs, especially, "African Night Flight" fit this. PJ Harvey and Tom Waits don't quite count, but they do create a ton of characters and are pretty musically diverse (they're not really goofy though.) Probably some others I'm missing... oh well, hope you enjoyed the read.
