06.02.18 | 6/2 - The Couch
I really just can't even. I didn't like her in the 90s and, as it turns out, still don't. It is NOT just because I had a roommate, when this came out, who had just gone through a divorce, who played this album (and her first) on endless loops OR because she was a child actor on "You Can't Do That On Television" so how could I even take her seriously?. Nope. I just don't like her music.... or maybe the first two things do contribute. I dunno.

06.02.18 | Alanis Morissette - "The Couch": Despite her repetitiveness, Alanis definitely has the voice to carry what she's singing and there are aspects of the music that I enjoy. So far this is very spacious. I like the atmosphere. It's good background music, but it hardly demands my full focus. I'd put this on when chilling with friends.

06.09.18 | A Beacon School - "It's Late": A little long for its outcome, but the instrumentals are cool enough. Vocalist, for the love of God, speak up! This is your own recording studio, you're not performing live. Make it match the instrumental intensity, would ya?

06.10.18 | Michael Kiwanuka - "Love and Hate": It's pretty nice. Straightforward and to-the-point, yet epic in a few senses. I wish there was a bit more jazz and soul flare, though. Just imagine the Bad Rabbits track from last month crossed over with this. Now that would be something to behold.

06.12.18 | The Tarantula Waltz - "Golden Chain": This was great. I loved the guitar/piano interplay and it has a cool, basic alt rock touch to the sound that hits just the right spots.
4.1/5
Procol Harum - "Whiskey Train": Ehh. The cowbell's cool, the guitar pattern is pretty sweet (particularly for the time), and the underlying bass playing's impressive. Everything else needs some work, though. By the way, this may have started the cowbell of the 70's, but ELP perfected that cowbell a few years later in "Karn Evil 9". I should totally rec that track next month, but it's 29 minutes long and I'm a chicken. Oh yeah, the score:

Murder By Death - âGood Morning, Magpieâ: You know, a lot of this is actually really freaking good, even great at times. 06.26.18 | "Swarm"
This has elements I could like, but it doesn't grab me.
3.5/5
"It's Love"
Tried an entire album of theirs in the past. Meh.
2.7/5
"Clocks"
Am I listening to Paramore or what?

06.28.18 | VersaEmerge - Clocks: Actually not that bad, but when you try to go in too many directions, you start running in circles.
3.0/5
Dirty Projectors - "Useful Chamber": Wait, is this "Useful Chamber" or "Bitte Orca"? I'm assuming the situation is "Bitte Orca" is the full version of "Useful Chamber" and thank God you linked that one. It's basically the new "Kaleidoscope" from the March list. The ending is unbelievable.
4.6/5 |
ArsMoriendi
06.28.18 | Bitte Orca is the name of the album
There is no song by them called "Bitte Orca" but Useful Chamber does drop the album title in the lyrics.
OH I SEE WHAT HAPPENED, the YouTube uploader titled it wrong. I still got it right though :P |

06.28.18 | Useful chamber- didn't these people work with bjork at some point? 3.5/5
Horsemen- The last one is-a green! What a cringey line. Music is a 4.3/5, lyrics 3/5, overall 3.9/5 |

06.29.18 | "The Four Horsemen"
I've actually heard this entire album and I this was one of the stand outs... not for the right reasons though. The chorus is kind of painful and reminds me of a dull nursery rhyme. Such a cool concept for an album -the apocalypse- but the execution is just so underwhelming. Musically it's decent enough though.
2.9/5
"All This Time"
OH NO IT'S DAD VACATION MUSIC! I like Sting's stuff with The Police, but so much of his solo stuff is just lost on me. Yeah, fuck this.

06.30.18 | "Useful Chamber": Loved the first half, was confused and admired the second half. 4.2/5
"The Four Horsemen": Yeah this was a little weird and I'm not sure what about this didn't click quite right, but objectively it's a pretty great tune. 3.8/5 |

BlazinBlitzer
06.30.18 | Aphrodite's Child - "The Four Horsemen": Cool, epic, and fun!
3.7/5
Sting - "All This Time": There are a few subtle and interesting instrumental licks in there, but it hasn't aged well enough to make that extra step. It's a better memorial than it is a song.
3.1/5
Ghost-Note - "Can't Get Right": Damn, there we go. Even if it's a little too start-stoppy, I'm thoroughly impressed.
3.9/5
