| Trail of Dead ranked (3dgy)
People don't seem to care too much about ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and most of their albums have a 3.5 average. This band is seriously underrated, and if you've never heard of them, I hope this list is a good occasion for you to check them out. The band is led by Jason Reece and el Thai macho Conrad Keely Sobsamai, who attended the same high school in Hawaii. Their music is a blend of indie rock, post hardcore and prog rock.
Lost Songs is not listed because I haven't listened to it... Lol such a good way to rank bands. | 11 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead So Divided
Yeah, let's forget about this... Not really catchy, not really memorable, and my favorite song is a Guided By Voices cover, which is the shortest song of the album by the way. | 10 | | Conrad Keely Original Machines
Keely's debut solo album is some sort of bad B-side collection. In most of the songs, you can tell what's about to happen based on the first 20 seconds of it, and considering that this album has like 24 songs, it gets old rather quickly. I placed this album above So Divided just because my expectations were never high to begin with, so I wasn't all that disappointed. | 9 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Festival Thyme
Very short EP, sort of a complement to Century of Self. The eponymous song is catchy. | 8 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dea
While I do agree that Trail of Dead's debut album is boring as fuck, it's not a complete failure. Every ToD show ended with the disintegration of the equipment back then, and this album was kind of arranged arount that idea. They show their teeth through their post-hardcore side, but it's been clear since the beginning that they were trying to do something more. Some songs, like Gargoyle Waiting, also display some very enjoyable Sonic Youth influences. | 7 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead IX
Probably ToD's most quiet and intimate album, maybe because Keely had a son just before it. Here is when they stopped touring as a big prog band and they went back to being a 4-piece indie act. This doesn't mean that they stopped being proggy however, quite the opposite, a big chunk of this album is instrumental. | 6 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Madonna
Ayyy we're getting into the juicy stuff! ToD's second album has more focus than the first one, there's a lot less filler. The songs are more exciting, and I just love Keely's efforts to sing in tune. | 5 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead The Century of Self
The Century of Self is when Trail of Dead realized that they didn't want to replicate ST&C's success, but instead opted for a proggier sound and song structures. The effort pays off, except that the bass is too low on the mix. | 4 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Worlds Apart
Worlds Apart is to Trail of Dead what In the Wake of Poseidon is to King Crimson. Their previous album ST&C was a huge success, and they wanted to offer more of it. The result is a very enjoyable indie rock album, one of the best of their discography. | 3 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Source Tags and Codes
ST&C is what made them famous. This album, which has even got a perfect 10 on Pitchfork, is an indie tour de force full of catchy melodies and dynamics. Still, I'm an 3dgelord because it's not my favorite one LMAO. | 2 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Tao of the Dead Part III
They released this suite-EP at the same time as IX, and it's so much better. An 18-minute long suite built on noise and harmony, and some amazing dynamics. A worthy successor to the eponymous full length. | 1 | | ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Tao of the Dead
This is good. Just like Blackwater Park is Opeth's perfect balance between death metal and prog, this is ToD's perfect balance between indie and prog. The last song is a 16-minute long suite, and make sure you listen to Tao of the Dead Pt. III afterwards, it adds so much to the experience! | |

But when I was a kid, they had a song (A Perfect Teenhood) on a skateboarding video I loved, and that song was fucking C4$H.
