What's your favorite lesser used instrument?
As in not like voice, guitar, bass guitar, piano, drum set, synthesizer, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, timpani, harp, chimes, harmonica, or pretty much any standard rock, blues, jazz, or orchestral instrument.

Mellotron makes any 60s psych album sound even better.
Sitar makes any 60s psych album sound even better.
Accordion is super underrated.
CuÃca makes Beck's "Tropicalia" sound awesome. It's in other stuff I listen to, but I can't think of what else right now lol.
Tabla is pretty much always paired with Sitar, so yeah.
Cowbell, banjo, mandolin, didgeridoo, rainstick... zither?
I'm pretty mean on the butter knives and random surfaces. Or pens and my desk
Nah but cool list idea
Ocean of Noise

lol the otamatone, as strange a it looks, sounds awesome
ah, also it's cool as fuck when people customize their guitars to do weird shit
ex. Ronald Jones of the Flaming Lips, Wilburn Burchette https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVRr5ud2gdU
accordion .. Any tiger Lillies album
Balalaika, Koto, Sitar, Oud
Balalaika looks like a bouzouki
My friend who's from Lebanon has an oud! :)
Hammered Dulcimer or any of the weird shit Eluveitie plays
theremin. it's an integral part of one of my favorite albums, and one of my favorite comedians' act
Theremin rules in stuff like "Velouria" and "Good Vibrations."
Sitar makes any 60s psych album sound even better.

uhh what's that thing used in the og star trek theme song? theramin.. i think? yeee
I'm a sucker for the mellotron. Good stuff
Hammered dulcimer
Mouth harp. Essential instrument for viking metal.
This may not count but you didn't list it and it's not much used in the genres you listed so pedal steel. Such a beautiful melancholic sound.
Musical saw is incredible on 'Deserter's Songs'
Bongos can actually sound really good on the right song.
Also harpsichord and clavichord.
The hurdy gurdy
"Bongos can actually sound really good on the right song."
Musical Saw can be great. Washboards are pretty cool, too. Banjo probably does it for me, though, out of all the ones not listed in your description.
The oboe, and for some reason sleigh bells always get my attention.
Oh fuck I forgot to list oboe at the top lol, not a lesser used instrument in classical lol.
that's true... sleigh bells it is.
Are uilleann pipes like bagpipes or?
Shamizen for sure
I've always enjoyed the kantele, a Finnish lap harp. If you've never heard it or heard of Nest, I'd definitely recommend checking out Nest - Woodsmoke. It has a very simple yet trance inducing sound.
steam powered trombone

Demon possessed kazoo
