American Dream Ranked
Album was like a 3/5, but why not?
"How Do You Sleep?"
9 minutes of forgettable nothingness. When it tries to pick up towards the end it's more like "finally!" than anything else, and even then meh...
"Change Yr Mind"
Oh look a Scary Monsters homage musically... I could be listening to Scary Monsters instead of this.
It started off promising, but all it did was drag, and drag, and drag. Seriously, listening to the last 3 minutes of this song was like watching paint dry. If you're going to drag something out at least put in a little more emotion or excitement beforehand. This is supposed to be a dance punk album, right?
"I Used To"
So this is a halfway decent b-side right? Right? Decent chorus I guess.
"Call the Police"
So this is "All I Want," but way less interesting, right?
So this is "Watch the Tapes," but way less interesting, right?
Okay, so now we've reached the songs worth re-listening to. The concept here is pretty cool, it's bright and emotional, but it could use more going on. With that said, it's really sweet and kind of pretty, so good enough!
So this is "Pow Pow," but way less interesting, right? The only difference is that I love "Pow Pow" so this ends up being pretty cool. Plus Nancy saves this from being forgettable too because I don't believe she's had a part like that before... then again I still need to check the debut.
Now THIS is how you write a slow song. Fuck all of the other slow songs on here honestly, this one has the passion, is somehow catchy, and an interesting maturity to it. Why was "Call the Police" the lead single and not this? Then again, this is a dance punk band, why wasn't the lead single something more upbeat? Whatever, this is good.
Well this is super fun and it doesn't remind me of better songs by them from previous albums! The voice that says "tonite" is fun and the lyrics are interesting, and I like the beat a lot. It also doesn't drag on too long. Man, I wish the entire album was as good as this as this and "American Dream."
Nancy should've been on this album more
Do you dig The Juan MacLean Ars?
That's way more Nancy for your buck
Tonite is fire, indeed.
"Do you dig The Juan MacLean Ars?"
Completely off the mark with Black Screen but holy shit spot on with HDYS
i feel like this and This Is Happening have the best flow/tracking
How Do You Sleep is awful, glad to see others who agree
also Call the Police and American Dream came out the same time as a double a-side single
Oh... odd I heard Call the Police way before I heard American Dream
Juan MacLean is on Murphy's label and actually moderately interesting as opposed to OCD Bonersystem (channeling Potsy)
Never heard of them. Name kind of reminds me of Electric Light Orchestra
4 easily felt like one of the worst imo.
LSD Soundsystem would be an even cooler name.
"Name kind of reminds me of Electric Light Orchestra"
ELO is far better by a long shot.
"OCD Bonersystem (channeling Potsy)"
Please don't channel Potsy, 1 is enough.
