05.29.17 | When we return Hybrid Theory we'll probably get Rubber Soul or Abbey Road |

05.29.17 | return the record dude, exchange for another
EDIT: posted simultaneously |

05.29.17 | How do you even know if its the record? A new vinyl shouldn't skip.
I personally haven't heard too many good things about all in one players like the one you mention, there is no telling what kind of needle or cartridge is on it either.
I think you would have been better getting a stand alone dedicated record player. |
TVC15
05.29.17 | Yeah my dad and I also speculate it could be the player itself. There was one point while the record was playing that the needle got displaced from the middle of its socket or w/e it is that holds it in place. But still, we're hoping it isn't the player itself
However, every time we've played the record since yesterday, it's the same problems on the same songs |
GmemberKills
05.29.17 | I gotta say it's very likely the record player damaged the vinyl, even on first play. My first record player was a SUPER cheap one, and the couple records i played on it still skip in certain places because of it.
The needle should not have come displaced from the cartridge either, that should never happen. I went and did some research and found this quote on a forum.
"What you want to avoid are the turntables like the "3 in 1" stuff, most USB turntables, and the stuff in target or best buy that look like old-timey radios/suitcase record players and such. Those usually have styli which wear down after a couple of plays and will damage a record very quickly"
So If you can i highly recommend you returning it and getting something else. If you still want a turntable, audio technica make some reasonable priced options, or you can do some research and look for a deal and get a nice vintage model off ebay (which is what i did).

heck
05.29.17 | should've done your research and gotten an actual record player instead of one of those terrible combo things dude. I made the same mistake and once I got my current player (Audio Technica AT-LP60, goes for about $100 on Amazon) the difference was staggering. |
GmemberKills
05.29.17 | ^ yeah it's the unfortunate truth. I've seen some elite vinyl junkies shit on something like the cheaper audio technica models, but they are still legit players. Most of em can still sound pretty damn good too once set up properly, and won't damage your records like those 3 in 1's |
dbizzles
05.29.17 | I think I have that same model, Hellscythe. Had it for over a year and it's great. Didn't want to make a huge investment on my first layer and I don't have a fantastic stereo to run it through anyway. Has Bluetooth too. No regrets. |

05.29.17 | I guess so but my dad and I came into the store looking for a boombox cos the one I inherited from my dad stopped working a while ago. Guess I shoulda known this deal was too good to be true but I'll settle for now due to how convenient it is |
GmemberKills
05.29.17 | Whatever you wanna do. You could def score a boombox for a lot cheaper than 150$ though |

No offense but the AT-LP60 isn't really anything to write home about either
If your player doesn't have an adjustable counterweight and swappable cartridge that's usually a bad sign from the get go |

If you think paying $30 for a record only to fuck it up with a shitty player/needle is convenient then that's your call I guess |

05.29.17 | does it continually skip?
If so tape a penny or dime to the backside of the needle. |

Mine doesn't have either as far as I know (AT-LP60-BT). I've been using it nearly daily for over a year and have never had an issue with it ever. It all comes down to preference and use, I suppose. I'm not an audiophile, but I can tell a difference in sound quality between my record player and files on my phone; if it gets better sounding I bet it isn't a terribly noticeable difference unless I get a better stereo and I don't see any reason to try to upgrade until mine goes out. I'm not a millionaire; my whole set up only cost maybe $500 and I'll be honest, I don't know shit about record players, I just went to my local record shop, gave the owner my budget and he told me what was the best quality for my money.
The jury is still out on the longevity of my player since I've only had it for about 18 months, but so far, so good. I think it's a great starter-player or for someone that doesn't want to worry about adjusting settings or whatever to get a perfect sound, that shit would probably drive me nuts trying to fine-tune for each record since they're all a bit different. |

05.29.17 | enjoy it altho there's something truly hilarious about your first vinyl being a linkin park album |
TVC15
05.29.17 | @Scream I don't plan on having much vinyls (that Hybrid Theory vinyl was $20 anyway) at this point of time due to complete lack of room to buy any and even then now I got a good system to listen to CDs and stuff on my phone because my laptop speakers are shit even with earbuds/headphones plugged in. Also I looked at the reviews on Amazon for the model I have and I haven't seen any complaints directed at the vinyl component of it, just other stuff like the cassette player not operating right and other stuff like that.
@Laeddis the skipping is just the same portions of the same songs every time, first time through till now
@EE my dad's love of nu metal is something that cannot be underestimated. That man will jam Disturbed and Limp Bizkit like it's 2000 and give no fucks about it |

Even tho you should've copped the AT-LP60, has done wonders for me |

05.29.17 | When it comes to a record player you do not want to spend less than 250$ for a player. 300$ if you want it to be any good. Mine is an audio technica professional DJ turntable. Audio-Technica is a good brand to stand by. |

05.29.17 | I spent £500 on my record player, speakers, and amplifier, and I haven't even accounted for how much the cables and stands come to. If you wanna do record playing right, you're gonna have to part with a substantial amount of money. There probably are cheaper ways to go about it, but it's better to play it safe. The turntable you've bought, what make/model is it? |
SCREAM!
05.29.17 | Vinyl is an expensive hobby no matter how you look at it. Records typically aren't cheap and it's pretty crazy to go and play them on a cheap tt that could potentially ruin them |
hobblepot
05.29.17 | I'd go for the AT-LP120, the LP60 has no counterweight, if it doesn't have one of those it's not worth having. The skipping you're experiencing is most likely due to the tracking force being too lite, so the needle isn't heavy enough and jumps out of the grooves, especially during heavier passages |

05.30.17 | Exchanged Hybrid Theory for the 180 gram 2010 remaster of Electric Ladyland and unlike the first one, there was absolutely no problems with Electric Ladyland first time through |

05.30.17 | I have like 150 vinyl and no player myself. I need to change that, but its expensive and I can never seem to justify it when 100% of my music comes with headphones sitting at my computer. One day, though. |

05.30.17 | Getting a record player is not big deal, there are plenty of cheap good options, but good speakers to go with it on the other hand... |

06.04.17 | I had gotten a bunch of vinyl for Christmas one year with a new record player and most of them skipped a few times. I thought I had just gotten unlucky with the records, but it was the player. Records that used to skip to the point of not being listenable were fine on a better. Don't cheap out on the player. The player that you're describing sounds just like the one that I had before. Everything skipped on that thing. Just return that and buy an Audiotechnica for cheaper. |

06.04.17 | Na man both the record play and vinyls!
Also I've played my latest vinyl, Electric Ladyland, everyday since I returned Hybrid Theory the next day and I've been problem free since. Idk guess I've gotten way too attached lol |
