| The Best Diggage
You need to check these the fuck out now. | 1 | | Ghost Brigade Guided By Fire
Ever wondered what Opeth, Katatonia, and In Mourning would sound like combined? Here is your answer. A must listen and near-classic material. 4.5 | 2 | | Arkan Hilal
Thanks go to the Rec Master, Jeff Rowan, for this one. Out of Israel comes this absolute diamond of a middle eastern melodic/progressive death metal album. If you like Orphaned Land, you need to hear Arkan. 4.5 | 3 | | Ereb Altor By Honour
Huge thanks to Balls for this one. A side project of members of Isole, Ereb Altor has put together the best folk/doom album I have ever heard. Absolutely essential for folk and doom metal fans. 4.5 | 4 | | Odious Mirror of Vibrations
More amazing metal from the middle east. This is an incredibly well put together melodic black metal album that may even beat out my current favorite middle eastern mbm album, Melechesh's "Emissaries". 4.5 | 5 | | The Vision Bleak The Wolves Go Hunt Their Prey
Moonspell, Therion, and Samael fans will love this one. The Vision Bleak's best work to date, TWGHTP is a fantastic example of how "horror" metal (doom/dark metal with haunting melodies, effects, etc) should be done. Well produced and very unique. 4.5 | 6 | | In Lingua Mortua Bellowing Sea - Racked by Tempest
From members of Asmegin and Urgehal comes a quality piece of progressive folk/black metal in the vain of Enslaved. Amazing stuff. 4.5 | 7 | | Myrkgrav Trollskau, Skr?mt og K?labrenning
A one man project from ex-Sworn member Lars Jensen, Myrkgrav is a phenomenal blend of folk, black, and viking metal comparable to that of Falkenbach, Windir, Kampfar, and early Manegarm. Absolutely essential for folk/viking metal fans. 4.5 | 8 | | Arts the Beatdoctor Transitions
An unknown gem of a jazz-strewn atmospheric hip-hop album out of the Netherlands. All hip hop fans take notice. 4.5 | 9 | | Solitude Aeturnus Beyond the Crimson Horizon
Another outstanding album from the legendary doom metallers, Beyond the Crimson Horizon gets much less attention than it deserves. A must listen for all doom metal fans. 4.5 | 10 | | Neuraxis The Thin Line Between
The new one from Neuraxis doesn't disappoint. All tech metal fans deserve to hear this one. 4.5 | 11 | | Sacrifice Soldiers of Misfortune
A criminally overlooked thrash classic with a lot of death metal influences. This needs to be heard. 4.5 | 12 | | Empyrean Eclipse Illumination Undone
Quality melodic death metal out of Denver, CO. Comparisons to The Absence, Martriden, Detonation, Miseration, and Mors Principium Est can be drawn easily. 4 | 13 | | Hollenthon Domus Mundi
Insanely epic and catchy symphonic/melodic death metal. This is a must for all fans of epic metal. 4 | 14 | | Dark Fortress Eidolon
An absolute behemoth of a modern melodic black metal album. 4 | 15 | | Ved Buens Ende Written In Waters
Amazingly slow, nearly doom-like avant garde metal with a lot of black metal influence. 4 | 16 | | Aeternus ...And So The Night Became
Quality Norwegian blackened death metal. 4 | 17 | | Hieronymus Bosch Artificial Emotions
Why this isn't payed more attention to by the progressive death metal whorebag of a website that is Sputnik is beyond me. The ridiculous technicality and musicianship shown by these guys is nothing short of incredible. 4 | 18 | | Morgion Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth
A very sexy piece of death/doom metal with some quality melodies and a good deal of headbangablilty. 4 | 19 | | Delain Lucidity
This is what Nightwish wished they released instead of the let down that was DPP. Poet and Balls will especially enjoy this. 4 | 20 | | Gwynbleidd Amaranthine
A progressive mix of folk, black, and death metal that seems to draw a lot of comparisons to Agalloch and Opeth. A very good ep. 3.5 | |

08.10.08 | no to 19. Aside from Marco's awesome appearance, it was not on the level of DPP. Musically Lucidity doesn't touch it. Vocally it's a bit better and Marco is even better in some parts than he is on DPP. I listen to Nightwish for their instrumentation both band wise and orchestral wise; there has been nothing released ever that reaches the music of Dark Passion Play, maybe Once but that's it.
on the other hand I haven't listened to 19 in a long time and I'll give it another listen. It's good, but saying Nightwish should've released something like this is completely absurd in my opinion. | fireaboveicebelow
08.10.08 | 18 kicks ass
I need to download the rest of these | Crimson
08.10.08 | Some good stuff here, and some more that I need to check out. | jrowa001
08.10.08 | lol recmaster, thanks Zoo. some great stuff here, glad to see more recognition for 1,2,7,9,10,18,20. i think Arkan are actually formed and live in France but the members are mostly of Israel nationality. 14 is ok. ill have to look into the rest of the bands on your list. ive actually heard of Holenthon's last album and i thought it was pretty bad. | Zoo
08.10.08 | @Poet: I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. But I would give it another listen if I were you.
@Fireabove: We have very similar taste in metal, so I think you'd be doing yourself a favor if you did.
@Jrowa: Definitely check out what you haven't heard here. Hollenthon's last album was a little beneath them. Domus Mundi is their best work. | Metalikane
08.11.08 | 5 and 14 are really good. Haven't heard any of the others. Did you ever get to listen to Grave Declaration? | Zoo
08.11.08 | Yes I did. Thanks for that. It's a very quality piece but it's too bad it was only an EP. | ThePrimer
08.11.08 | 1 and 2 kick major ass! | Metalikane
08.11.08 | Yeah, I know. I think he could really make something great in the future, especially if it's a full-length, but who knows. | rasputin
08.11.08 | Sweet list, I've only got the Morgion and Aeternus albums, I'll check out some of the others now. | silentpotatofan
08.06.12 | wonderful list |
