| Black Sheep Albums
Albums that stick out of bands discography's for being weird and different compared to their other material | 1 | | Swans The Burning World
Incredibly digestible and, at times, upbeat for Swans standards | 2 | | Today Is The Day Today Is The Day
While electronics do play a (very) minor role in this band's music, their self titled album focuses around synths and the weird ass atmospheres one can create with them | 3 | | Radiohead Pablo Honey
When people think of Radiohead, they usually think of their weird artsy style as found on albums like OK Computer and In Rainbows, however their debut album was more or less a straight forward post-grunge record. At one point, critics called this album "Nirvana-lite" | 4 | | Slint Tweez
Slint's mostly known for their 1991 post-rock epic Spiderland, however their debut Tweez, which is overtly overlooked, was much more noise rock oriented, at times even resembling early No Wave to an extent | 5 | | Jandek Put My Dream On This Planet
Jandek's always changing musical styles, first he's a solo blues folk musician, then he's in a garage rock band, then he's a post-rock drone outfit. However, his trilogy of spoken word albums, Put My Dream On This Planet, This Narrow Road, and Worthless Recluse, are all often considered as his weirdest, most out-of-this-world recordings he's ever released | 6 | | Whitehouse Twice Is Not Enough
Whitehouse is mostly known for their ear blistering noise, however their (second) 1991 release Twice Is Not Enough seems to stem itself from dark ambient more than anything else | 7 | | Unwound Unwound
When people think of Unwound, they either think of their noisey post-hardcore Kill Rock Star debuts (such as Fake Train) or their later, more dissonant releases (like Leaves Turn Inside You), however, their *true* debut album is, at it's core, a straight forward punk album that's typically overlooked by listeners | 8 | | Archers Of Loaf White Trash Heroes
Everything about White Trash Heroes automatically makes it the black sheep of the Archers' catalog. The unusually good production, the electronic instruments, the weird songwriting, and so on. | 9 | | Jeromes Dream Presents
Jeromes Dream essentially built their career on the simple concept of bashing the shit out of their instruments and playing as violently as they could, which makes Presents all the more weird for any fan of the rest of their material. The vocals are comparable to spoken word, and they seem to be processed through some sort of weird computer program. That, and the instrumentation, while still heavy, maintains a structure | 10 | | Orchid Gatefold
When compared to their other material, Gatefold focuses much more on songwriting, moods, and themes, while their first two albums were much more straightforward in comparrison | |

02.28.16 | PJ Harvey - White Chalk (her only album with 0 rock elements, it's spooky chamber pop)
Ministry - With Sympathy (all synthpop, no industrial elements.)
Ween - 12 Golden Country Greats (sure ween kind of dabbled with country, but this album is completely country with no psychedelic or alternative elements.) | Frippertronics
02.28.16 | John Cale - Music for a New Society (just Cale on piano/synths/other random stuff like hammers and a saw in "Close Watch"; except for "Changes Made", which has Allen Lanier of Blue Oyster Cult on guitar - the album was made at a low point in Cale's life, and while fueled by cocaine, his drug of choice, the album is incredibly morbid even for Cale's standards)
Tim Buckley - Blue Afternoon (Buckley's first album for Frank Zappa's label Straight, it is not as sparse as Lorca, yet isn't as dense and jazz-influenced as Starsailor)
The Beach Boys - Wild Honey (a far more soulful, rhythmic album than anything the Boys would do, yet has the lo-fi production that was present on Smiley Smile) | EvoHavok
02.28.16 | Paradise Lost - Host (synthpop instead of gothic/doom)
My Dying Bride - 34.788%... Complete (experiments with a bunch of electronic effects, guitars are more hidden in the mix)
Buck-Tick - Six/Nine (longest album, rawer than others, some bizarre vocals and song ideas)
Opeth - Heritage | Snake.
02.28.16 | husker du - candy apple grey (way more poppier and accessible than their early stuff; punk element doesn't show up anywhere on the album) | DoofusWainwright
02.28.16 | Therapy? - infernal love
Gruff northern Irish indie rockers put on twirly moustaches, write flamboyantly poetic lyrics, record chamber ballads and include arty segues between tracks | DoofusWainwright
02.28.16 | Smashing Pumpkins - adore
Alt rock gods ditch live drums and heavy guitars and turn into synth-loving Cure acolytes with funereal dirge like compositions and suicidally introspective lyrics to the fore | Artuma
02.28.16 | converge - halo in a haystack
off minor - some blood
pygmy lush - bitter river
wolves in the throne room - celestite
built to spill - ultimate alternative wavers
drudkh - songs of grief and solitude
there are a few questionable things on the list | pizzamachine
03.24.16 | Ra - Black Sheep |
