Just some various albums I've been digging that don't have too many ratings on here. Some are popular outside of the site, some just aren't well known at all. | 1 | | Of Us Giants Nova Scotia
This one's name-your-price on Bandcamp, they've been compared to Brand New a lot but personally I don't hear it. Still, Brand New and Republic of Wolves fans might enjoy this. Sycamore Tomb has an amazing chorus that's been in regular rotation for months now, and Iron Boat's got an Of Monsters and Men feel with the interplay between Dustin Anderson and guest vocalist Lindsey Pavao. | 2 | | Slaegt Beautiful and Damned
This is to black metal what Amon Amarth is to death metal-the riffing style is too melodic and based in traditional heavy metal to really qualify as black metal, but it expertly melds these epic melodies with a blackened aesthetic and intensity to make some seriously enjoyable metal. | 3 | | Blood Incantation Interdimensional Extinction
Solid blend of Demilich, Timeghoul, Gorguts, and other crazy 90s tech death bands...IN SPACE. | 4 | | The Oh Hellos The Oh Hellos
Very catchy and very accessible indie folk, this EP is full of heart and full of love. See why 18 Sputters have given it a 4.4! | 5 | | Havukruunu Havulinnaan
Epic pagan black metal in the vein of Immortal. There's a bit of folk influence here and there, as the riffs are more focused on fun than cold atmosphere, but it never loses the intensity of a black metal album. | 6 | | Lord Lovidicus Trolldom
If anyone here frequents /r/metal, you'll know we're led by a mod who's increasingly becoming obsessed with dungeon synth. Anyone who grew up playing 90s RPGs will get a kick out of this, just sit back and let your imagination transport you into a pixelated Tamriel. | 7 | | ADX Exécution
French speed metal from the 80s. Wickedly talented vocalist, great riffs, and the first side seems to refernce Camus's The Stranger if you're into that kind of thing. | 8 | | Sivyj Yar From the Dead Villages' Darkness
One of my favorite atmospheric black metal albums. Instead of just tremolo picking post-rock riffs, there's a healthy incorporation of Russian folk music and a couple memorable solos, too. | 9 | | Sun Worship Elder Giants
More atmoblack, the first track from this has an absolute MASSIVE mid-tempo riff around 8 minutes in. Seriously, I'm still searching for something to top it. | 10 | | Mammoth Grinder Underworlds
Their riffs live up to their band name. | 11 | | Ranger Knights of Darkness
I feel like speed/trad metal really works best in the EP format. This one's concise, but its mix of speed metal riffs and Tom Araya style vocals let it hit hard fast. Steel Dawn is especially good. | 12 | | Master's Hammer Ritual
Pretty well-known black metal group, but could definitely use a bit more love around here. These guys sounded second wave before the Norwegian scene was even a thing, but beyond the sound they also have the riffs and hints of NWOBHM to back them up. | |

02.22.16 | I've gotten so much of my music from Sputnik, here's me trying to give back a little. Almost all of these can be found on Bandcamp. | Hawks
02.22.16 | Def gotta jam 2, 5, and 8 asap. 9 and 12 both slay. | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | Sweet Hawks, let me know what you think! Also if you're into post-black, the new Wildernessking is really good, too | Sinternet
02.22.16 | ^ Someone's got issues.
Anyway 4 is amazing, will have to check some of the others. | tempest--
02.22.16 | 11 is probably the best EP of all time | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | Definitely didn't mean black metal can't be melodic, but the riffing style in 2 sounds much more like heavy metal than black metal. I admit to not listening to anything from the Greek scene yet, but I'm familiar with how groups like Rotting Christ injected melody into their black metal, and obviously stuff like Mgla is black metal. | Keyblade
02.22.16 | yikes | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | Have you heard 2? Because it's not "some of the most evil black metal ever," nor is it trying to be. Not saying black metal can't still be black metal when it has those influences, but 2 is definitely more blackened traditional metal. | Jots
02.22.16 | ⛄️ | Ashen
02.22.16 | opportunistic douche brigade ft. snox | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | Well apologies my ignorance was so offensive, it's a big scene with lots of history to sift through. | enedwaith
02.22.16 | gonna check out 11 and 7, thanks
12 fucking rules | Sevengill
02.22.16 | Harrow (CAN) is probably the most sput-overlooked folk/bm I've come across. Agalloch fans, go do yourselves a favor. | Illoomorpheme
02.22.16 | Massive +1 for Slaegt, been loving those guys since their very first demo. | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | @OvDeath Looking forward to it, I'll check out the Hellenic scene this week | ScuroFantasma
02.22.16 | Sweet, a few of these interest me | LotusFlower
02.22.16 | 1 is a pretty decent album that should be checked out for the stand out tracks alone. Only listened to Through the Deep, Dark Valley from The Oh Sees but it's one of my favorite albums ever. | elcrawfodor
02.22.16 | CL0VER I've had that downloaded for a while now, really need to spend some time with it but I keep going back to the EP. | enedwaith
02.22.16 | "Agalloch fans, go do yourselves a favor."
lmao noone likes agallack | braspberries
02.22.16 | Listening to 1 right now. So far, not bad. Appreciate you putting me onto this. | pizzamachine
02.22.16 | 11 looks so cheesy, if it's anything like the cover I'll love it haha | Sevengill
02.22.16 | ened, I know you can make a better pun than that. | Watchman97
02.22.16 | The Oh Hellos are great. Saw them live (front row) and they were crazy energetic. Their viola player jumped off a balcony and their banjo player and drummer brought there instruments into the crowd for the encore. I even got a sweaty hug from the band after |
