torts
01.30.16 | because they're all nerds |
adr
01.30.16 | why do u care tho
anyway altertide0 asked to remove his ratings cuz he was getting shit from butthurt users from what i remember
|
ArsMoriendi
01.30.16 | The question popped into my head so, I made a list about it. Nothing more really. |
Valkyrion
01.30.16 | cuz bans and too much shitposting prob also not everyone cares |
ZombicidalMan
01.30.16 | rating is a waste of time and literally means nothing due to the constant changing of individual opinion. everyone would have to change their ratings as well as add new ones... |
torts
01.30.16 | also wanna point out, if you're a user on www.sputnikmusic.com, you don't have anything better to do. that arguement is null and void |
Jots
01.30.16 | because rateyourmusic exists |
ZombicidalMan
01.30.16 | except looking up new artists and albums is something better to do still contained on sputnik. your argument is ridiculous |
torts
01.30.16 | but why rate on rym instead? this site has a much better rating system. |
Space Jester
01.30.16 | I don't really care to put a number on the things I like. Too much hassle and it kind of cheapens the experience for me. |
Jots
01.30.16 | "except looking up new artists and albums is something better to do still contained on sputnik. your argument is ridiculous"
except RYM has an infinitely better database
"this site has a much better rating system."
false in every possible sense |
Cygnatti
01.30.16 | "rating is a waste of time and literally means nothing due to the constant changing of individual opinion. everyone would have to change their ratings as well as add new ones..."
it's not a complete waste of time, you can store information about music in ratings. songs/albums i've completely forgotten yet gave a 4.0-4.5 become unforgotten. you can't always store every album that you've liked in your music files, sometimes you need to be reminded.
it's only a waste of time if you take your ratings hardcore at face value (this alb is really a 3.65/5). that's why livingthrowing decided to rate only in whole numbers because of the annoying leeway. |
adr
01.30.16 | yea go write your reviews on rym instead staff JohnnyOnTheSpot |
altertide0
01.30.16 | basically what adr and JohnnyOnTheSpot said. never got banned btw |
Jots
01.30.16 | "yea go write your reviews on rym instead staff JohnnyOnTheSpot"
hey i never said i liked RYM more, I just see the appeal of the site for people interesting in cataloguing their ratings |
JamieTwort
01.30.16 | I've only rated stuff that's come out since I got my ratings wiped (by request) cos rating new releases seemed like a good way to start anew.
I got my ratings wiped cos they were a mess and I didn't want to go through and change a load of them. My main ratings are on RYM now but even on there I've still not rated anywhere near everything I've heard. |
Snake.
01.30.16 | ars do you have a life outside of this website jw |
ArsMoriendi
01.30.16 | To be honest, if it wasn't for the rating system on here, I wouldn't have even signed up for Sputnik. I was rating albums on here 6 months before I ever posted my first comment. |
Mystletainn
01.30.16 | It's because they're scared people will make fun of their music taste, duh. |
Cygnatti
01.30.16 | "but why rate on rym instead? this site has a much better rating system."
absolutely not. at the very minimum, rym has literally everything sput has when it comes to rating (except the pie chart, if you're so inclined) AND has a 0.5/5 option. |
ZombicidalMan
01.30.16 | rating as a book marking system is great and smart, but Ars worded this list like it's detrimental to the website when people abuse or ignore the rating system. |
BlacKapes
01.30.16 | i had like 400 ratings and they were wiped for fuck knows why so i stopped doing it, big waste of time |
Titan
01.30.16 | I, for one, enjoy marking my territory |

01.30.16 | 0.5 is irrelevant when u have 1.0 tbh honestly it's for horrible albums not to be your common rating like for so many 2edgy rym users but w/e |

Probably more of one than you ;) but duh. This list is generating great comments, so I'm not sure why you're complaining.
" Ars worded this list like it's detrimental to the website when people abuse or ignore the rating system."
I wouldn't say I think it's detrimental, I mean it's trivial whether or not they do it, I was just curious since rating albums is a big part of the website. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
01.30.16 | adr why are you the most bitter motherfucker of all time |

01.30.16 | Used to despise ratings, because a number felt utterly inadequate in describing the experience of hearing an album. After finding out some amazing albums looking at other people's ratings though, it dawned on me that rating can be a social thing too, no different from saying "hey, I dig this, check it out!" [This is also why I prefer "social" Sputnik to RYM.] Accordingly, in the last few months I've been filling in my ratings with some albums I enjoy. Still can't be bothered to give negative ratings though.
Anyway, went through saying all this to add:
WTF, Scatology really has no review! Someone do this asap or you'll have to put up with my jumbled thoughts on it instead. |
