10.31.15 | I believe the philosopher Charles Taylor said that Halloween was a failure of secular society to recreate the festivals of medieval christendom and ended up being just another day to participate in market consumption, like every other day in the west. If Jesus' holdiday is susceptible to the totalizing powers of capitalism then so is the Dark Lord's too I guess. Now I've never read Charles Taylor but a drunk guy at a party summarised the argument to me and I'm sure that's as good as reading the book. |
