| The Vines Ranked
Tomorrow The Vines will release their 6th LP, So I figured I'll rank their first five
albums. I'm pretty sure nobody else has done this, and since nobody likes/cares about
this band, I'll be both the first and only person to rank them. | 5 | | The Vines Vision Valley
This is where The Vines went wrong. A good chunk of this album sound bored as hell. The 6-minute
pic "Spaceship" is pretty breathtaking, and "Don't Listen to the Radio" is one of the few Vision Valley
tracks that is exceptionally fun. (Rec. "Vision Valley", "Don't Listen to the Radio", "Spaceship) 2.8/5 | 4 | | The Vines Melodia
While not as forced as Vision Valley, Melodia is still a rather unmemorable effort mainly because
most of the tracks start out good, only to end briefly ("AS3", for example). Yet again, the 6-minute
balled ("True as the Night") steals the show, featuring a colorful string section. "Braindead" gives
off a very sinister tone with its palm muted chords and explosive chorus. (Rec. "True as the Night",
"Braindead", "She is Gone") 3.1/5 | 3 | | The Vines Future Primitive
Here, The Vines added new elements to their sound, with synthesized bass on the title track and
even a strange drum beat at the end of "All That You Do". Again, the record boasts some pretty
uninteresting tracks that keeps the rating down a bit, but still contains some solid offerings. (Rec.
"Future Primitive", "Goodbye") 3.3/5 | 2 | | The Vines Winning Days
Winning Days is a great album because The Vines tried to make each track different from each
other. From the poppy "Ride" to the psychedelic "TV Pro". One of the best moment would have to be
"Animal Machine", featuring a cold vocal performance and sludgy riff that will keep you entertained
for days. "Autumn Shade 2" is such a peaceful track that sounds like the musical equivilant to living
in the woods. (Rec. "Animal Machine", "Autumn Shade II", "FTW") 3.7/5 | 1 | | The Vines Highly Evolved
Their debut, Highly Evolved, is hands down their best work. Which makes sense, seeing that these
songs were made by the band since they were teens and have been working on them ever since.
The ending track, "1969", is defiantly one of the best Vines song ever recorded, changing styles
every few minutes from garage to psychedelic to hard rock. Highly recommended. (Rec.
"Outtathaway!", "In the Jungle", "1969") 4.3/5 | |
KrazyKris
09.01.14 | Only know their debut. One of the most overrated LPs I know. No energy, pseudo-psychedelic and hardly anything that could get stuck in your head besides the t/t and Get Free. Don't know how Rolling Stone could call them saviors of rock. | Supercoolguy64
09.01.14 | The whole "savior" thing was very far fetched agreed | KrazyKris
09.01.14 | The whole "The" band thing was strange. I don't know the Strokes debut, but Hives, Vines and White Stripes are in no way as good as one would believe after all that.
The Vines are probably the ones I understand the least. Maybe that sounds stupid, but I just don't know when I should listen to "Highly Evolved" and it's not good enough musically to justify that. | Supercoolguy64
09.01.14 | The 2000 garage rock thing was really a fad in all honesty. I Still dig white strips doe | KrazyKris
09.01.14 | I understand that, I mean Jack is an amazing guitarist and they have some great tunes, but all in all I don't like the extroverted style. For example, I think the "masterpiece" Ball and Biscuit is one of the most self-staging things I've ever heard, it's just tiring. | Supercoolguy64
09.01.14 | Yeah I get you |
