These were the ones that shaped the journey.

The War of the Worlds

Flipping through the vinyl collection of me mum and dad it was all Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway
and this thing. I picked it up looked at the cover and shit meself. Trembling hands put the thing on
the turntable and before I could form some childish thought pattern I'd shit meself a second
time as the threat of alien invasion seemed real but more importantly music was a thing.
2Michael Jackson
Thriller

Also in that collection was a few tapes, this was in there and as a child this was the best thing ever
and no car journey was complete without it. Strange that a few years down the line I would have
been whackos ideal demographic. Shudder.

The White Room

The first album that I bought with me own pocket money. It was current, it was mental and I'm
pretty sure it cemented a love of all sorts of music with its samples, beats, riffs, rap and soul. Still
spun to this day.
4Nirvana
Nevermind

Metal: long haired leotard wearing nonsense. Rap, Un-identifiable 'street life' nonsense. This
changed absolutely everything, the connection was there and this was the one that for me established the
passion.
5Blur
Parklife

The Britpop years were god awful, truly shite but here was an album so of its time and talking about
the complete opposite of everything i'd heard before. Is that walthamstow dog track? They banging
on about Walton? Wearing Fred Perrys? Me grandad wore a Fred perry. Identifiable as anything and
the start of the mid teen years. Classic days.
6The Beatles
Revolver

As a result of the ridiculousness of them Britpop years the classics opened up, a world of The Who,
Small Faces, Kinks and the greatest of them all. The Beatles. I was given the Blue Album as a
Christmas present. Stuck it on that Xmas morning and had my mind blown. There was a realisation
that the '60s really were the height of it all. Revolver was the best growing up.

Leftism

Electronic music was devoid of soul, how was it possible to channel the emotion through bloops,
bleeps and robot twaddle? Open Up was released and laid waste to everything. The album that
changed the perceptions.
8 Spiritualized
Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating In Space

There was a time for one inconceivable moment that 'new' music being released offered nothing. For
the first time in my life I found a stale period in the musical journey then this was released and for
me it has never been bettered. Unbelievably a few months apart came.....
9Radiohead
OK Computer

This thing hit like nothing else. The Darkside of the Moon of its day. Their '97 appearance at
Glastonbury, although I saw it on the tele cemented Radiohead as the band.
10Massive Attack
Mezzanine

As a result of OKC the boundaries changed, Britpop was sent to its death (thankfully) and
everything went miserable as arseholes. This album was spawned and for it's particular style hasn't been bettered.
11Deftones
White Pony

Leading on from the peak of the late 90s things took a horrendous turn for the worse. The music
scene was infiltrated by complete bobbins. New genres of nu metal and emo were cropping up that
were unbelievable drivel. Could it be my worst nightmares were coming true. I was old and just
didn't get it? This album came out and made me think there was still life in the old dog yet, to say
that this offered and alternative to what was happening at the time is possibly the greatest
understatement of the lot.
12Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

That was that, everything I'd missed out on first time round was opening itself upto me as a result
of having a metal head flat mate and the onset of the digital age. This one offered the lot, a total
classic.
13The National
Boxer

One last hurrah from the current generation. A band who offer up their souls on record. For me the
modern equivalent of The Smiths and an absolute treasure. Boxer was the starting point for me with
this lot and despite not being their best the seeds were sown here.
14Unwound
Leaves Turn Inside You

A recent discovery who on first listen took me back to the days of Nirvana in terms of totally flooring
me which I never thought would happen again. An album that makes me wish I was there first time
round.
15Charles Mingus
The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady

And that's that, the digital age took over. Knocking about on t'internet led me
to Sput and an adding of fuel to the fires that always burned. Things that were touched upon are
now fully investigated, digested and appreciated. As a result of like minded individuals new things
arise and the lad who shat himself staring at the cover of War of the Worlds now goes on his daily
commute listening to this masterpiece.
Music never dies.
