Korn Albums Ranked

For a long time, Korn have been one of my favourite bands. So, I;ve decided to rank their albums.
11Korn
Untitled

This isn't necessarily a bad album; it is however, my least favourite release from Korn. Korn have a pretty diverse discography, and they have changed quite noticeably over the years, but this album is where they stopped sounding like 'Korn'. Maybe the band realised it too because their next release was the 'return to roots' album Korn III. This is also their most boring album, with a strange 'overbearing' feeling permeates the album and smothers out any real excitement.
10Korn
The Path of Totality

Okay. This album is not great, in fact, it's barely just 'good'. But, it's more entertaining than the previous album and offers up some fun tracks, even if they are drenched in dubstep (bad dubstep) and it's pretty much Jon central. This album is even further removed from their original sound than Untitled, which is a wierd companion to the Korn III album that came before it. The other instruments (ESPECIALLY THE BASS) are drowned out by the powerful electronics. Despite all it's flaws however, it still offers a more enjoyable listening experince then the bland Untitled and so that is why I have ranked it thus.

Korn III: Remember Who You Are

This is the return to roots album. But can you accurately re-create the past with only 3/5 original members in the band? Perhaps an album like this would have been better after Brian returned to the band. In any case, the result is not impressive. Most of the songs feel forced, as do the vocals. The bass is nowhere near as prominent as in the first couple records. With only Munky on guitars, there is no hope of re-creating the dual guitar attack of the past and David had long since departed from the band; which means different drummer and different result. All in all, this album is not a re-creation of the past, but a struggling grasp at returning to former glory. In saying that, however, it still tops the albums below it. It's more fun then Untitled and instrumentally superior to TPOT.

See You On The Other Side

There are quite a number of good tracks on this album. The majority of them are fun too. But it's lacking in a range of departments. This album was the first step in the wrong direction that led to Untitled; the shift in style and shift away from the established sound of Korn. The Matrix got involved on this one too, which may explain the change in sound. There are industrial influences here too, which is a matter of taste but I dislike them so for those reasons, this is my number 8.
7Korn
Untouchables

This is a really solid album. There are some great tracks on this one: Here To Stay, Thoughtless, Bottled Up Inside, Alone I Break, Hollow Life etc. Jon's vocals are solid here too, and quite diverse. The songwriting is probably the best part of this album, as the songs themselves are structured in some interesting ways. Instrumnetally, the album is also pretty damn solid. It is a little repetitive as a whole, and there are a number of sub-par tracks too. But for what it is, this album is a good listen.
6Korn
Take A Look In The Mirror

My first Korn album and objectively the heaviest too. The first two tracks are some of the heavist Korn has to offer, and this album also exhibits one of Korn's first songs (re-done a little, of course) as Alive. The demo version on Niedermeyer's mind is a little different though. The rest of the album is quite solid too and the songs are pretty interesting. The lyrical matter here is also pretty different for Jon so that's something. There are some let down tracks though. And the production pretty much blows.
5Korn
The Paradigm Shift

This is the return of Korn. The first album with Brian 'Head' Welch since his departure after TALITM. This album is very, very solid. The songwriting is great, the instrumentation is back with renewed vigor and the entire album feels like a much more postive band took the time to put effort into it. There are tracks that remind of previous albums, but there are fresh flavours here too. There's a ballad, there's subtle electronics and there is the dual-guitar attack back in full swing. The bass is back, the drumming from Ray is superb. All in all it's a great album.
4Korn
Follow the Leader

With Follow the Leader, Korn's 3rd LP, they introduced a couple guest appearances and some new elements to their sound. Following the success of Life is Peachy, they took a new approach which more heavily focused on their hip-hop influence, featuring the likes of Ice Cube. With tracks as moving as 'Pretty' with a meaning that is extremely twisted, and hits like Freak on a Leash, this is one of Korn's greatest albums. The strange 'Cameltosis' is on here too, which sorta brings it down a little, but then there is 'My Gift To You' which ends the album beautifully. Spectacular album.
3Korn
Issues

Issues is a strange album, but a great one. There are a number of 'interlude''-like tracks throughout the album, interspersed between the 'normal' tracks. This album opens with the intro track 'Dead' which leads into the single 'Falling Away From Me', one of Korns best known songs; which even appeared in the South Park episode. 'Dirty', 'Wish You Could Be Me', 'Somebody Someone' and 'Make Me Bad' are all highlights on this, my pick for 3rd place.
2Korn
Life is Peachy

This is like a more light-hearted version of the debut. There are tracks like low-rider and Twist which are prove that this isn't the same depressing album as the self-titles, but is a new beast. it still hits hard though, with 'Kill You' taking the cake for most intense moment on the album. Very close second here.
1Korn
Korn

This is Korn's best album. It's the first taste the world had of nu-metal, besides the small number who heard the EP Niedermeyer's mind. 3 of those original tracks made their way onto here in a revised way. The rest is nu-metal pretty much at it's peak. Daddy is a twisted track, Blind is a classic of the genre, Clown is here too. Almost everything on thsi album is fantastic, including the production. The Bass is at the forefront too. Best Korn album, no doubt.
