| Korn Albums Ranked
For a long time, Korn have been one of my favourite bands. So, I;ve decided to rank their albums. | 11 | | Korn Untitled
This isn't necessarily a bad album; it is however, my least favourite release from Korn. Korn have a pretty diverse discography, and they have changed quite noticeably over the years, but this album is where they stopped sounding like 'Korn'. Maybe the band realised it too because their next release was the 'return to roots' album Korn III. This is also their most boring album, with a strange 'overbearing' feeling permeates the album and smothers out any real excitement. | 10 | | Korn The Path of Totality
Okay. This album is not great, in fact, it's barely just 'good'. But, it's more entertaining than the previous album and offers up some fun tracks, even if they are drenched in dubstep (bad dubstep) and it's pretty much Jon central. This album is even further removed from their original sound than Untitled, which is a wierd companion to the Korn III album that came before it. The other instruments (ESPECIALLY THE BASS) are drowned out by the powerful electronics. Despite all it's flaws however, it still offers a more enjoyable listening experince then the bland Untitled and so that is why I have ranked it thus. | 9 | | Korn Korn III: Remember Who You Are
This is the return to roots album. But can you accurately re-create the past with only 3/5 original members in the band? Perhaps an album like this would have been better after Brian returned to the band. In any case, the result is not impressive. Most of the songs feel forced, as do the vocals. The bass is nowhere near as prominent as in the first couple records. With only Munky on guitars, there is no hope of re-creating the dual guitar attack of the past and David had long since departed from the band; which means different drummer and different result. All in all, this album is not a re-creation of the past, but a struggling grasp at returning to former glory. In saying that, however, it still tops the albums below it. It's more fun then Untitled and instrumentally superior to TPOT. | 8 | | Korn See You On The Other Side
There are quite a number of good tracks on this album. The majority of them are fun too. But it's lacking in a range of departments. This album was the first step in the wrong direction that led to Untitled; the shift in style and shift away from the established sound of Korn. The Matrix got involved on this one too, which may explain the change in sound. There are industrial influences here too, which is a matter of taste but I dislike them so for those reasons, this is my number 8. | 7 | | Korn Untouchables
This is a really solid album. There are some great tracks on this one: Here To Stay, Thoughtless, Bottled Up Inside, Alone I Break, Hollow Life etc. Jon's vocals are solid here too, and quite diverse. The songwriting is probably the best part of this album, as the songs themselves are structured in some interesting ways. Instrumnetally, the album is also pretty damn solid. It is a little repetitive as a whole, and there are a number of sub-par tracks too. But for what it is, this album is a good listen. | 6 | | Korn Take A Look In The Mirror
My first Korn album and objectively the heaviest too. The first two tracks are some of the heavist Korn has to offer, and this album also exhibits one of Korn's first songs (re-done a little, of course) as Alive. The demo version on Niedermeyer's mind is a little different though. The rest of the album is quite solid too and the songs are pretty interesting. The lyrical matter here is also pretty different for Jon so that's something. There are some let down tracks though. And the production pretty much blows. | 5 | | Korn The Paradigm Shift
This is the return of Korn. The first album with Brian 'Head' Welch since his departure after TALITM. This album is very, very solid. The songwriting is great, the instrumentation is back with renewed vigor and the entire album feels like a much more postive band took the time to put effort into it. There are tracks that remind of previous albums, but there are fresh flavours here too. There's a ballad, there's subtle electronics and there is the dual-guitar attack back in full swing. The bass is back, the drumming from Ray is superb. All in all it's a great album. | 4 | | Korn Follow the Leader
With Follow the Leader, Korn's 3rd LP, they introduced a couple guest appearances and some new elements to their sound. Following the success of Life is Peachy, they took a new approach which more heavily focused on their hip-hop influence, featuring the likes of Ice Cube. With tracks as moving as 'Pretty' with a meaning that is extremely twisted, and hits like Freak on a Leash, this is one of Korn's greatest albums. The strange 'Cameltosis' is on here too, which sorta brings it down a little, but then there is 'My Gift To You' which ends the album beautifully. Spectacular album. | 3 | | Korn Issues
Issues is a strange album, but a great one. There are a number of 'interlude''-like tracks throughout the album, interspersed between the 'normal' tracks. This album opens with the intro track 'Dead' which leads into the single 'Falling Away From Me', one of Korns best known songs; which even appeared in the South Park episode. 'Dirty', 'Wish You Could Be Me', 'Somebody Someone' and 'Make Me Bad' are all highlights on this, my pick for 3rd place. | 2 | | Korn Life is Peachy
This is like a more light-hearted version of the debut. There are tracks like low-rider and Twist which are prove that this isn't the same depressing album as the self-titles, but is a new beast. it still hits hard though, with 'Kill You' taking the cake for most intense moment on the album. Very close second here. | 1 | | Korn Korn
This is Korn's best album. It's the first taste the world had of nu-metal, besides the small number who heard the EP Niedermeyer's mind. 3 of those original tracks made their way onto here in a revised way. The rest is nu-metal pretty much at it's peak. Daddy is a twisted track, Blind is a classic of the genre, Clown is here too. Almost everything on thsi album is fantastic, including the production. The Bass is at the forefront too. Best Korn album, no doubt. | |
ScuroFantasma
05.23.14 | Well, this is the most effort I've put into any list before. | ScuroFantasma
05.23.14 | Also, 11/11 artwork! | Jasdevi087
05.23.14 | 1 and 9 are the only ones that I still maintain a smidgeon of respect for, but I haven't heard them in ages. I have a distinct loathing for 4 and 8. | KrazyKris
05.23.14 | I just know 1, 4 and 10, but to call "The Path Of Totality" entertaining is so wrong. It's a 1-2/10. This whole electronic crap doesn't work in any way for me. Plus the lyrics are mediocre at best, plus the vocals sound awful at times. Only good track would be Bleeding Out, the rest is average at best and an abomination at worst (Narcissistic Cannibal). But, as always, to each his own. | ButteryBiscuitBass
05.23.14 | You sure are Krazy, Kris. | ScuroFantasma
05.23.14 | I get what your saying, I just mean that it was 'more entertaining' than Untitled. I would prefer to listen to TPOT then Untitled because it bores me. At least theres some life in TSOP. And @Jasdevi087 4>9 man, c'mon. | mryrtmrnfoxxxy
05.23.14 | 8 is when i stopped paying attention, shit shit shit album | mryrtmrnfoxxxy
05.23.14 | oh yea 2 is my fav p good ranking probably | ScuroFantasma
05.23.14 | yeah, but it's better than Untitled and TSOP by far, 8 and 9 are interchangeable really, and thankyou | mryrtmrnfoxxxy
05.23.14 | oh but i like untouchablesx more than u | nob973
05.23.14 | first 4 are correct
| TalonsOfFire
05.23.14 | 3 is 1 for me | NordicMindset
05.23.14 | "instrumentally superior to TSOP"
TableGuy... | js2014
05.23.14 | Issues is my personal favorite but awesome list | ScuroFantasma
05.23.14 | Thanks guys. and @Green, it is instrumentally better than TSOP, no question. | NordicMindset
05.23.14 | wait, you are tableguy? | deathschool
05.23.14 | I disagree somewhat with this ranking. I need to revisit their discog, but I just don't think I dig Korn as much as I used to. | ScuroFantasma
05.26.14 | WTF is a Tableguy? Is it a Pillowguy alt or something? | ScuroFantasma
06.20.14 | Holy shit I just realised what you were talking about, I accidently put TSOP instead of TPOT, shit, reading too many Pillowguy lists lol. | TalonsOfFire
06.20.14 | 11 is underrated | xstaytrue18x
06.25.14 | Untouchables should be higher up the list and issues is one of their worst albums.
| Cimnele
06.25.14 | just in terms of quirkiness i'd say issues > peachy > leader > korn > the rest. i can't stand their lyrics or their songwriting so there's no reason to visit their work apart from their weird interludes and stupid chord changes on the early records lol | sapient
06.25.14 | Untitled needs to be higher, 1 and 2 are always 1 and 2 | PunchforPunch
06.25.14 | 4 is 1 | ScuroFantasma
06.25.14 | @sapient I suppose 1 and 2 are pretty obvious choices but that's how it is for me.
@xstaytrue18x I love Issues dude, and I like Untouchables too, just not more than the other ones. | Torontonian
06.25.14 | i've only heard 11 and it was utter garbage. | SirDrumsalot
06.25.14 | Put 7 in 5's spot then 1-5 would be correct. Then everything after that sucks balls. | metalsavedmylife
06.25.14 | the path of totality over untitled?
Something horrible happened here...
although untitled is really bad compared to the rest | Tunaboy45
06.25.14 | This seems about right, though untouchables could be lower, I can't stand it.
| ScuroFantasma
06.26.14 | @Torontonian - hence the rank of 11
@metalsavedmylife - just an opinion, I really just get bored of untitled while TPOT holds some interest even though it's pretty bad.
@Tunaboy45 - yeah, Untouchables isn't their best but I still think it's pretty solid. | Torontonian
06.28.14 | shit band | Subho
06.28.14 | The Paradigm Shift should be higher.
And I don't understand the hate for See You on the Other Side. | Insurrection
06.28.14 | ive only heard 10 and it sounded like a botched abortion | ScuroFantasma
06.28.14 | The Paradigm Shift is already at 5 dude, that's pretty damn high. As for SYOTOS, I don't hate it, I just don't like industrial metal and it's full of industrial influences, it's also pretty different from the established Korn sound. | ScuroFantasma
06.28.14 | @Ins yeah, it's not very good man. | Subho
06.28.14 | TPS is better than Life is Preachy or Follow the Leader. With more perspective, you'll rate it higher I guess.
Comin' Undone from SYOTOS might just be my favorite KoRn track! | ScuroFantasma
06.28.14 | Don't get me wrong though, I really enjoy TPS, I just prefer the old Korn sound to the new, but it's definitely a gigantic leap in the right direction after TPOT. Just my opinion. Coming Undone is pretty good but I prefer Souvenir and Open Up. | parksungjoon
02.29.20 | wait this guy is staff now??? |
