Cygnatti 04.09.14	it's pretty simple actually. the stat formula for a pokemon at any given time is: stat = (5+((Base Stat2 + + EV/4 + IV )Level/100)Nature Base Stat = a predetermined stat that is the same for all pokemon. i.e. all charizards have a base speed of 100. when a pokemon is "strong" or "fast", this is what we're all referring to. go to any pokemon site find these, they're easy to understand. EV = effort value (ranging from 0 to 252, effectively 0 to 63 for a single stat, only 508-510 can be obtained). every single time you defeat a pokemon, you get effort values. the EV corresponds with the pokemon's highest stat(s), and evolutionary line i.e. rattata = 1 speed EV, gengar = 3 sp.atk EV, etc. in your quest to beat the game, EVs are not necessary to work with at all, but can make an extremely significant effect in competitive battling. because you can only have 508 or 510 EVs in total, this means that you can only "max out" 2 stats, and boost one more by 4. the two stats maxed are what should be most important stats to that pokemon i.e. charizard and gengar want to max out sp. atk and speed, ferrothorn wants to max out either hp and def or hp and sp. def. also note that exp share means that every pokemon in your party will gain the same EVs. IV = individual value (ranges from 0 to 31). every single time you encounter a pokemon, or hatch one, the pokemon's IVs are set and set for eternity. Breeding is required to make sure pokemon get "maxed IVs", which is 31. the ideal is to get 31 for every stat but one (very unlikely to get all 6 stats maxed). but 3-4 maxed IVs are sufficient competitively anyways. Level = level. self-explanatory. because it's a multiplier, it matters not when a pokemon is EV trained, just that they are. Nature, when a pokemon is found/hatched, they come with a predetermined nature. natures can change a pokemon's stat by either 1.1* or 0.9. in order for one stat to raise, another must lower. however, there are many neutral natures, meaning every stat is 1.0.
Cygnatti 04.09.14	*natures can be passed down to children at a 100% success rate by giving the parent an everstone. this is why in the beginning of X and Y, people were scrambling to find ditto safaris -> to find a ditto of every useful nature. and b/c all safari pokemon come with 2 maxed IVs.
Cygnatti 04.09.14	so if we apply this. here's how a gengar with maxed sp atk IVs and EVs, and modest nature at level 50 would look. stat = (5+((1302 + 252/4 + 31)50/100))1.1 = 200 say that he did not have any of those, they were all minimum, including having an inhibiting nature such as impish or adamant. stat = (5+((1302 + 0 / 4 + 0)50/100))0.9 = 121 121/200 = 60.5 % in conclusion, these things can have an extremely significant effect on your pokemon's ability to battle. we can also gather that gengar is a fucking boss. 200 fucking sp atk level 50, dayum.

It has an online simulator where you create pokemon teams and can fight other people in tiers, so a Beedrill will never have to fight a Gengar. The imbalance thing has always really annoyed me about pokemon which is why in the game I'm working on I've spent many hours redoing move pools and stats to make the game more balanced.
