| Automatic For The People Ranked
Because I like watching you all argue. | | 12 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Sweetness Follows" Still a good song, but not nearly as good as the other 11. | | 11 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"New Orleans Instrumental No. 1" Soothing transition, but a bit forgettable, but it
serves its purpose. | | 10 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Find the River" Pretty great, if It didn't remind me of other songs that came out
earlier. | | 9 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Star Me Kitten" Strangely sweet, probably someone out there's favorite, but I still
prefer 8 songs on AftP to it. | | 8 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Man on the Moon" It's an interesting song about Andy Kaufman, one of R.E.M.'s
biggest hits, but being a hit doesn't give you an advantage on my lists. Still a good
song. | | 7 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Everybody Hurts" This song would probably be higher on my list if it ACTUALLY DID
ITS JOB. Stipe said he wrote it to cheer people up (especially the suicidal) and all it
does is make me sad. The pickup is amazing though. | | 6 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Nightswimming" This song is absolutely beautiful. If this was the best song on the
album, it would still be a great album, luckily there are even better songs on here! | | 5 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Try Not to Breathe" The lyrics to this song are so well written, the folkish music also
makes it even better. | | 4 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Ignoreland" One of the best R.E.M. songs I've ever heard. It's so political and
upbeat, it almost sounds like it would fit better on an 80s R.E.M. album. Out of place,
but still catchy and fun. | | 3 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Monty Got a Raw Deal" Now this song, this song has such a powerful feel to it. I
would have made this number #1 if this list were about emotional power alone. The
guitar part is cool too. | | 2 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"Drive" This is the highest charter for AftP and for good cause. Out of the 6 singles,
this song's sarcasm mixed with its catchy beat makes it a heavy hitter and a perfect
opener to an obviously 5/5 album. | | 1 | | R.E.M. Automatic for the People
"The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" This song is just so fun! Whether its the mish-moshed
"callmewhentrywakeherup" or the catchy guitar and keyboards. Stipe has really
outdone himself with this entire album and this song in specific is the crown jewel.
Any who disagrees can "kiss my ass." | |

02.21.14 | Fantastic album, hard as hell to rank | ArsMoriendi
02.21.14 | It is a hard album to rank. 2-6 of my list could easily be switched around. I've also heard Document, Green, and Out of Time and all 3 are great, but Automatic for the People is better by far. I'll probably try Monster next R.E.M. wise. | NordicMindset
02.21.14 | Love Sidewinter | AliW1993
02.21.14 | This is my favourite R.E.M. record but lots of people prefer their earlier work. Murmur and Reckoning
especially are fantastic. | MisterTornado
02.21.14 | Find the River at 10 lol | zakalwe
02.21.14 | I'm with Ali.
Murmur is one of the greatest ever debuts but this tops that.
Nightswimming is a song that paints pictures. | TwigTW
02.21.14 | Murmur is my favorite, but this is a close second. It's almost like two different bands. I canโt imagine any of these songs on Murmur. | ArsMoriendi
02.22.14 | @MisterTornado: That's what happens when there's a nearly perfect album. Amazing songs can still be found towards the bottom of the list. |
