On topic, I'm understanding that unless your covered by Medicaid your going to get fined 1% of your income if you don't have health insurance. Employers employing over 50 people who don't offer it will also be fined.
Besides the money-grubbing aspects a lot of good came from this like insurers can't turn away kids with preexisting conditions, sick people can get some kind of high risk insurance now etc. Two things..
1. If America is so stupid and dumb, move..I won't be hopping on this America sucks bandwagon with errybody
2.(and most important) I hope Jackie Chan can get insurance now, or soon because last time I heard he couldn't since he was too much of a action badass. |

06.28.12 | this is coming from a non-US resident so I may have some things wrong, but it essentially puts healthcare into the hands of big government which is a double edged sword in people's eyes
on one hand it will be more widely accesible, there will be more people able to get access to basic health care which is good since, well, more people can get help. insurance companies can't drop people if they get sick, children can be on their parent's plan till 26 years old
on the other hand, well, government will have more and more of a say in how health care is irun, how doctors practce, raises taxes making it harder for small businesses and practices to make it worth their while, thus infringing on american's values etc etc.
that's the gist of it anyways, you can find stuff all over the net about it |

It's basically government health insurance to anyone who doesn't have insurance, it also has mandates that make insurance companies cover pre-existing health problems. Now there's an additional tax to people who opt out of either private or govt. health insurance and have none, but only if they come in with a broken leg or some sort of injury or disease. It's kind of complicated, but imo it's actually a pretty good bill, just like Social Security, except the govt. can't fuck with it when comes to taking out money to pay for wars. |
