Weezer is an American alternative rock band. Theyformed in 1992 in Los Angeles, California, and have gonethrough varying degrees ofsuccess over their 24-yearcareer (from 1992 – 2016). They have released 10 studiorecords, and they have soldover17millionrecordsworldwide. They have long been citedas innovators and helped to popularize alternative rockin the 90s.They released their eponymous first album, dubbed the“Blue Album”, to avoid confusion with their 2001, 2008,and 2016 self-titled releases. Thanks in large part toproducer Ric Ocasek (of The Cars fame), and a series ofinnovative videos that received constant rotation onMTV, theBlue Album hailed 3 hit singles, “Undone – TheSweater Song”, “Buddy Holly”, and “Say it Ain't So.” It hasgone on to sell over 3 million copies, and remains theirmost successful album. They quickly returned in 1996with Pinkerton, which abandoned the power-pop soundof their firstalbum, with darker tones and more personallyrics. Its release was hindered by a lawsuit thatprevented their label from advertising it properly, and asa result, it was a critical and commercial failure uponrelease. However, Pinkerton soon developed a cultfollowing and critical acclaim, with many fans calling ittheir best work. They soon went on hiatus after the initialfailure of Pinkerton and after bassist Matt Sharp left thebandto focus more on his group, the Rentals. In 2001, they returned with their second self-titled record, the Green Album. It was another major hit with itssingles “Hash Pipe” and “Islandin the Sun". The nextyear, they released Maladroit, which saw the bandexperimenting more with the same structure, with theresult garneringmixed reactions. In 2005, Weezerreleased Make Believe, which also received mixedreviews. Lead single “Beverly Hills” reached the top 10ofthe Billboard Hot 100 and also earned the band its firstGrammy nomination. The next single, however, “PerfectSituation”, boasted a stay at#1 for 4 weeks on theModern Rock charts. In 2008, they released their thirdself-titled album, the Red Album, which was felt to betheir mostexperimental to date and featured the hit“Pork and Beans". This was quickly followed by twomore studio efforts that were received poorly byfans,2009's Raditude (which featured another hit single in “(IfYou’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To”) andHurley, which attempteda return to Weezer's power poproots. After another four year hiatus, the band released theirninth studio album Everything With Be Alright In The End,with many fans claiming atthe time that it was the bestalbum that the band released since the height of theircritical popularity in the mid-nineties. In 2016, theyreleasedtheir newest self titled album, the White Album, which has received even greater critical and fan praisethan their previous album, with songssuch as "ThankGod for Girls" and "Do You Wanna Get High?". « hide
