Nirvana

Nirvana was a rock band from Aberdeen, Washington, that gained worldwide fame in the 1990s. Initially part of the Sub Pop roster alongside groups like Mudhoney and Tad, the enormous success of their major label debut Nevermind was instrumental in pushing the buzzword "grunge" and its accompanying fashion to the forefront of pop culture as well as paving the way for a major label feeding frenzy to find the next underground band that could replicate their appeal. The harsher sounding In Utero was a departure from its slicked up predecessor but turned out to be their final album - Nirvana ended in 1994 with the suicide of their primary songwriter and vocalist Kurt Cobain.
