Trish Keenan and James Cargill are the duo known as Broadcast from Birmingham, UK.Their initial influence was the psychedelic band The United States of America. Over the years their sound has evolved from a mixture of 60’s pop with 60’s film score music, and recently modern electronic elements, into what is now a relatively minimalistic sound. Keenan’s vocals (think Françoise Hardy) are hauntingly beautiful against Cargill’s inspired instrumentation, ranging from pulsating electronic bursts to simple acoustic arrangements. Lead singer Trish Keenan died of pneumonia on 14 January 2011 at the age of 42.
