I hope I'll come around to it, but atm it's just a bit boring in terms of riffs, drums and melodies

opener is one of the best songs here [2]
|

riffs are pretty much nonexistent on this album
it's literally all about everything else

"riffs are pretty much nonexistent on this album"
Yeah it's interesting how a "progressive metal" album can have so little emphasis on guitar work.

I agree, the opener slays
"Yeah it's interesting how a "progressive metal" album can have so little emphasis on guitar work."
tbf, they've been relying less and less on their guitar work since Congregation so I can't really say that's surprising

I feel like the three singles indicated a heavier, weirder and more sinister album than what we got in the end.
The change in style from Aphelion to this isn’t as big as I had hoped, can‘t say I‘m not disappointed sadly. I think I had false expectations for this album.

If you can put your finger on why the opener is so good, that would be cool, I am curious
|

the same argument you'd use for why you like the songs you like on the album
nice dynamics and well-executed hook

Best album since Malina.
Hell, with Starlight they even released the best song I heard from them(IMO of course).
The album could use some pepper in the form of one or two more uptempo tracks, though. They have this rage inside which should explode more often.
Whoever produced this should get some credits too, sounds crazy good.

Chorus sounds epic and grows in intensity (at the end), synths in the beginning go hard, weird guitar screeching and the rythm in the verses sound cool and Baard‘s ghost notes go crazy.

Formulating more thoughts after my third listen, I'm just impressed how confident the band sounds on this album, the performances and even the production choices just have a lot of conviction. This has really snuck up on me
I wish there was slightly more diversity or energy, everything is mid-slow tempo 4/4 Leprous but the textures are cool enough to keep it interesting.
Also interesting to see they still haven't even for a second thought about making a song that doesn't follow the
"verse
chorus
looooonger verse
chorus 2"
structure lol. Seriously, I challenge anyone to find a Leprous song that doesn't do this (there's a couple outliers, maybe 1-2 on this album even, but is an observation I've made ever since The Congregation)

my guy, so many Leprous songs from their first four albums do this formula and yet you've given most of their records +4 ratings, why are you complaining about this now?

Aphelion was much better than this. Still have no clue why it's their lowest rated here. This has some great moments but overall it feels so repetitive to me. Like a Sunken Ship is awesome though, I wish it wasn't pretty much the only song with a bit of heaviness and energy in it.

True, the dynamics are really good. I guess the hook doesn't impress me very much, but then again I find myself taking a shit or going on a walk thinking "silently walking aaaaaa-looooooooone", so it somehow works?
Aphelion had Running Low, On Hold, Castaway Angels ... So many good songs honestly. I think this album is just as good

I don't know which band has fallen the lowest in the last years, leprous or mastodon? Arctic monkeys are there too for sure, but at least they are trying completely opposite to what they did.

Yea, Muse are still miles better than any of those bands!

muse has simp theory, which is easily worse than the worst mastodon or leprous album
