@e21; You're right about the live albums; They seem to be quite overlooked on Sputnik, and I cannot understand why. A live performance done well represents an intimate contact with the audience, and it shows the true band's personality with all the heat and skill of the musicians covered with warm applause. So it's a good feeling for a writer to review them. That's why I did cover some under my Progject account. There are so many classic live albums from classic rock acts that deserve more recognition, that I don't understand the little votes they get on the site. That being said, well done for your recommended ''Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970'' series. They all need some attention.

I think people equate Live as poor recording quality, it took me a while to get into live stuff, now that is what I go for, becasue if you want to know a band no better place then to hear what they do live, most of my favorite bands are great live bands probably for that reason, live is where it is at, somebody do a list.

Agreed with your opinion, wham. You nailed the question, but I must say that most of the live albums I dig have great recording quality, and if not, my ear can somehow adjust to it. But I now understand why people can be unwilling to pay attention to live albums. Here are two great lists about them.

Yeah, again we are in the same boat. But I can Understand why live albums have less attention here. Probably because in general they haven't original new material. However, a good live album must have some originality on it too. I think we can listen the old songs with a new spirit of life. And fortnately, I think there are really great live albums. As I said, is my inttention to bring here some of the great classic live albums and also some of the new, as I did before with some of those cases. For instance, my next review will be about another one, another live classic even less known and perhaps less appreciated.

I can agree with you, in some of the classic live albums from the 70's. However, there are some great live albums of the 70's with great quality sound. For instance, and mentioning only the live albums from the 70's reviewed by me, all of them have great or at least good quality, even "Genesis Live" which is perhaps the album with less quality recording. Anyway, some of them are so important in the history of rock music that must be fully appreciated, despite some less quality in some of them.

About recent live albums, it's a completely different matter. They've all great quality but unfortunately and in general people pay less attention to them, too.

One of my favorite prog live album is Yessongs, and the sound is pretty poor from the original discs at least (maybe there is an improved CD reissue, hope so).

I'm looking forward to read your next review, bro. Bring to the table another live album, if it's about a great show!

If you want, take a look at the two lists I left just above. They show that there are still people who enjoy listening to some good live performances.

Cheers!

bad production is acceptable if the performance itself is superb

Yeah that's also my thoughts. An ear can get used to it. Yessongs is really enjoyable itself when you don't compare it to another album with neat production.

Don't worry, I have some other mysteriously local, non-rated albums and anyway, I'm not familiar with every supergroups out there. I'm listening to it atm, and the first song sounds very familiar to me. According to me, it's a Brian Eno compo. Album seems really solid so far. Thanks for sharing!

One of my favorite prog live album is "Yessongs" too. Maybe it belongs to my top three of better live albums of the 70's. I've the both versions, vinyl and CD. I think the CD version has some improve in relation to the other.

My next review is about a great live show but unfortunately the sound isn't so good. It's a very old live performance indeed. But as SirLord said, bad production is acceptable if the performance itself is superb. Anyway, it's mainly due to the historical importance of the album and its relative obscurity that I decided to review it now, and besides that, it's a great and a perfect companion to my previous review.

I took a look to both lists and both are great. I already reviewed three of the albums included in SirLord's list and I've plans to review some others. My intention is to review some of the best and most charismatic and important live prog albums, from time to time.

About 801, I only know and own the studio album "Listen Now". So, I really don't know yet that live album. I know that it's a pity and shame, but the things are what they are. But I must listen to it one of these days. This is for sure. An album with such amazing list, some are beloved by me like Manzanera, Eno, Monkman and Phillips must be part of my attention. Anyway, and from what I read, I'm conviced that it's a great lie album.

About a review of it, who knows. Maybe one day.

Sabbath sound quality sucked, when I saw them at OZZfesst circa "99", they stole the show.

I'll try to bet on your next live album; Uriah Heep Live, Focus Live At The Rainbow, Strawbs; Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios, or maybe some Horslips or Traffic. You don't have to tell if I am right ;)

I suggest you Barclay James Harvest Live for the future.

As for Yessongs, I'm tempted to buy the CD then.
