A very surprising release by some of Merge's finest, led by Destroyer's Dan Bejar throughout the classic Bowie album. Mind you it's not the whole thing, but based on the Philip Glass version, hence the inclusion of Abdulmajid. Well worth the listen if you love "Heroes" or any of the artists performing here. |

abrasively abrasive, this short-lived no wave collective rose to posthumous fame thanks to their share of tracks on Eno's No New York collection. Contained here is the complete studio works of the band. What they lacked in melodic sense, they made up for with highly violent rhythms and piercing guitars. Never reached their peak and were never meant to, what else could they do? |

Styx Kilroy Was Here | 2.3 |
In Kilroy Was Here, an album about censorship and about the titular character's struggles to lift the ban on rock music (or whatever the concept is supposed to be, I can't even tell by the time I make it to "High Time"), the album's subject wears thin quickly thanks in no part to a paper thin story that hardly elaborates on how rock music got banned in the first place and how the villain, Dr. Righteous, even got that much authority to ban rock music in the first place. Then again, I'm seriously questioning a story where the main character's name literally spells out ROCK. Styx truly is the worst. |

if you're coming into this expecting something like the 0 and 0% albums, it's safe to say this
sounds quite different. the ethereal vibe that's always been present still looms over Aoba's
music, but the field recordings that permeate her material are nearly absent, with the exception
of a short piano instrumental. very, very good record. |

Soon enough you find yourself lost in the music, starting your own mosh pit in the sand and
screaming maniacally from the top of your lungs. So engulfed in the moment that you don't even pay
attention to your wife making out with this bandito, or your kids playing with the guns they found
in the backseat of his car. Over and over again, you keep pushing rewind and keeping the rock
alive and screaming... occasionally snorting some of the strange white powder you found on the
dash board of his car. Some hours later you're ready to collapse. Your son has shot your daughter
in the foot and your wife is passed out from the overexertion. Yet you and this strange man are
still rockin. Finally as the day ends, you ask this guy, "What's your name anyway?" "Rick.... the
Desert Dick" he replies, as he drives off into the sunset with your wife, leaving you with only a
memory, and a cassette of NIGEL PEPPER COCK. |

Definitely not up to par with the first three albums, but that doesn't weaken the album in rany sense. On the plus side, at least Iggy sounds relatively good and doesn't sing about how rhis "dick is turning into a tree." "Ready to Die" is two notches up from "The Weirdness" and rcan be seen as a return to form. |

In this odd compilation are the group's singles from 1977 to 1990, including some novelty singles released by their label at the time (Pye) in order to make money, as well as some interesting tracks, such as "665 The Great Bean" and a cover of "Golden Earrings". While the first part focuses on the a-sides, the latter focuses on the obscure tracks on the b-sides. It's obvious which ones are the stronger ones and vice versa. It isn't essential, but is worth a listen. |

When listening to this for the first time, I was turned off by it being a completely instrumetal album, devoid of any vocals. By the time I hit 'The Loved Ones', I was devoting my full attention to the album. It's utter perfection, and if any prog-freaks haven't checked this out yet, you're just doing it wrong when it comes to progressive rock. |
The Enid Aerie Faerie Nonsense | 4.1 |
A fairy tale-like concept album about the sea goddess, Fand, and the quest of young knight Childe Roland, AFN amazes with its mythical and majestic compositions that'd make even Mahler green with envy. This isn't your typical nonsense, this is Aerie Faerie Nonsense . |
The Enid Touch Me | 3.8 |
Yeah, maybe this album and its concept could've been handled more better. Alright music, with some engaging moments, but a slew of dragging moments that weaken the album. Not essential, but suggested if you enjoyed its predecessors. |
The Enid Six Pieces | 3.6 |
A complex portrait of the band, Six Pieces showcases the skill, identity, and personalities of the six individuals of the band. Again, there are some flaws, but not as evident than its predecessor. |
