A slightly grosser, more immature version of the Slim Shady LP. This guy is going to blossom into a real sick fuck. Great abstract beats, and lyrics that range from cringe worthy, to downright giggle inducing. If, you're expecting ILLmatic, you may be disappointed, but take it at face value, and it's one of the more refreshing Hip-Hop releases of the year.

Three 6 Mafia Mystic Stylez3.5
Listening to a newer Three 6 Mafia album, you never would've known such a now average rap
group started out so well. Mystic Stylez in the eyez of Memphis Rap fanz iz like their
version of OK Computer. Anyone outside of the Memphiz rap circle, or non Horrorcore fanz
might not like it, but if you are even remotely into horrorcore, you should definitely pick
thiz up.
While the lyricz aren't amazing by any stretch of the imagination. The beatz are the saving
grace of thiz album. The production iz top notch in that really great B-Movie sort of way.
Three 6 Mafia claimz Bone Thugz stole their sound and they have a really great disz track on
here. Now normally disz trackz bore me, but "Live by yo rep" is one of the albumz
highlightz. Possibly the best track iz the last. "Porno Movie" iz basically a song about
fucking. But the sample of Michael Jackson'z "Lady In My Life". Which iz funny, because only
monthz later, Gangsta Pat... Another Memphis rapper sampled the same song in a similar
fashion on "I wanna smoke".
Overall, the lyricz are passable, but a few songz drag on. Despite thiz, the production on
basically every song iz really great. If you're looking for a surprize. Pick up thiz
album......... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Dandelion Gum is a throwback to obscure psychadelia, with a touch of modern drum machines that verges on great trip-hop. The vocals are dark and happy at the same time. It's as calm as it is odd. And it's almost in a genre by itself in terms of Production.

Rivers Cuomo Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo2.0
Weezer Pinkerton3.0
What can I say? The first half is almost sleep inducing. I don't mean because it's bad, calling any song on the album "Bad" would be a lie. But nearly half of the album is average, nearly half the album is great, and the other 2 tracks are somewhere in between. Rivers is really good at lyrics about love and odd subjects, but not much else. The lyrics are slightly above average for the entire album. Even though when he tries to go out of his comfort zone and write about something else, you end up with turds like "Maladroit" and...., Do I even have to name the other turd? Musically, it's not amazing. lyrically, it's hit or miss, yet it is seen as Weezer's magnum opus. Not only is this album not their best, but I'm not even sure Rivers has the chops to make an album that can truly be a masterpiece. Call it harsh, but 15+ listens and counting, and I still feel exactly the same the first 3-4 times I heard it. That said, it is impossible to not like "El Scorcho" & "Pink Triangle".

You could honestly make a greatest hits album made of greatest hits snubs from this album.
Where's Thong song, One Inch Man, Deadly Kiss, Gloria Lewis, Space Cadet, and most importantly Green Machine, which has to easily be their most widely known song. There aren't really any bad songs, it's just that there aren't nearly enough songs that deserve to be there. Not to mention there's almost nothing from "Wretch". This compilation = phail.

I listened to this album one day just to see if it sucked as badly as people said it did. My ears didn't fall off of my head, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to turn it off and listen to something else at a rate of almost 1.3 times per song. I'm not sure which is worse, the Drumming, Lyrics, or Vocals. Can it be a 3 way tie? James sounds like a shell of himself. The drums go "kick ping kick ping kick ping ping ping", and the lyrics are feaux angst ridden and uninspired. And worst of all NO SOLOS. If you're ever in such a good mood that you need something to bring it down or just like shoddy production and musicianship, this is the album for you. If you are anyone else, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

The first song I heard off of this was Ilyena.... Frances the mute was pretty much the best album I'd heard in the last few years, Amputechture was great, but only in certain moods. But I was worried when the first 30 seconds of Ilyena sounded too weird for me. I was wondering "Is the whole song going to be this cryptic and overstated?"... Then shit kicked in and I was relieved. I gotta say, this album took long to fully grow on me. The only song I couldn't listen to any and every time is Soothsayer. But aside from that, this album has everything I wanted. Technical Guitar work. Drumming that will kick the door down, and ass rape you in front of your fat girlfriend, gay vocals from cedric, and everything else I know and love about TMV. If The Mars Volta is you're cup of tea, don't worry, you shouldn't be disappointed. And if you don't like TMV. I hope you malfunction in bed, and your significant other leaves you for Juan Alderete. That way every time you hear Conjugal Burns, you can sit there and wonder about where you went wrong.

In some ways, I honestly despise this album. Not because of the actual content, but because it spoiled all of us. It made us expect every album Omar and Cedric came out with would be like this. It's accessible, yet incredibly unique. loud, yet soft. solid, but anything but Run-Of-The Mill. No songs are bad or even average, yet you can tell that this isn't close to the best that these guys can do. It will never be duplicated, nor should it, because the most likable thing about this group is the fact that they find a new sound for each album.

A truly awesome and mellow album with extremely creative samples. The guy can make an awesome song out of some guy saying "Muthafucka gonna drop tha pressure!", or a crazy religious dude saying 80's rock bands that need to be destroyed (Including "David Booie" "Cyndi Looper", lol.), it's really a must listen. and arguably the best song on the album ("Rikki") is a sample of a woman going:
"ah-ii-yea-ii-Yea-ii-ii-oh-Ii-Yea-yea-wa--ii-yea-
ah-ii-yea-ii-Yea-ii-ii-oh-Ii-Yea-yea-wa--ii-yea-
ah-ii-yea-ii-Yea-ii-ii-oh-Ii-Yea-yea-wa--ii-yea-
ah-ii-yea-ii-Yea-ii-ii-oh-Ii-Yea-yea-wa--ii-yea-".... Or something like that. May annoy some, but overall a great album.....Missing Persons.....Duran Duran.....Missing Persons.....Duran Duran.......Missing Persons......Duran Duran.....Duran Duran......Duran Duran.....DURAN DURAN!!!

The Notorious B.I.G. Ready to Die5.0
There is no such thing as a perfect Record. There never is, was, or will be. There's not even a such thing as a perfect record within the genre. But if there was, "Ready To Die" would be. With killer production (Mainly by Easy Mo Bee, including Lord Finesse and Dj Premier) and genius hook, this Record is "Ear Candy" in every sense of the word. But most importantly, Christopher is a beyond amazing lyricist. I have seen this album turn fans out of people that saw rap music as "Talking over stolen music". The best thing about the record are the the goosebumps that accompany it. Every word is spoken in a way that makes you understand what the man was going through when he created the album. It shows every side of a human being. The selfish, egotistic man who thinks he can beat any man and screw any woman. The Father who would give his life (and anyone else's) to put food on the table for his family, and the lost soul who is trying to make sense of everything in between. Sure, it has a few flaws, but they are all overshadowed by the genius of every aspect of the record. Be prepared before you listen to it. Because I wasn't. I was expecting a catchy album with cool hooks and nice beats. I ended up with an album that amazes me to my core to this day... Nearly a decade after I first heard it. I can honestly say that this album will stay in the back of my mind well into my 70s (Or whichever decade I end up dying in). His death has absolutely nothing to do with this Record's unreal reputation, and everything to do with the fact that you will never hear a rap album that commands as much attention or respect as this one.
Nas Illmatic5.0
ILLmatic is one of the rare rap albums that lives up to the hype. Backpackers, Indie Snobs, Young, Old, Wiggers, and (Gasp) even actual black people might not agree on a lot of things, but 9 times out of ten, people who love hip-hop will tell you this is one of the top ten rap albums ever.

The Mars Volta Frances the Mute5.0
When people look back on this decade. Frances The Mute WILL be one of the most recognized albums of the decade. The only mystery is how? Will it be known as "the stroke of genius, stream of consciousness album that incorporated more genres than you could shake a stick at, all while introducing you to sounds you never expected to come from a guitar or human vocal chords?" or will it be known as "That lame ass long, drawn out album with all the random noises and annoying shrieking, coming from both instruments and mouths?" There seem to be almost an equal amount of disciples and detractors. Maybe that's what makes the album so amazing, the fact that everything said about the album is true. The keys to enjoying this album are Patience and Open-Mindedness. If you come in immediately expecting to have your socks blown off, chances are you'll hate this CD. But if you have a little time and curiosity for new things, this may change the way you listen to music.
