Mr. Rager is back. |
Ryan Adams Wednesdays | 4.0 |
Taylor Swift Evermore | 4.0 |
People show their true colors in the face of adversity, and in the wake of COVID-19, while the entire music industry has been set back (pushed back releases, no live shows, etc.), Taylor Swift again digs into her roots of being an excellent songwriter and crafts another dazzling record that frankly seperates her entirely from her pop contemperaries in terms of raw talent and ambition. |

Self indulgent, preachy, Butch appears to have penned this rock opera album to virtue signal to all your neighborhood social justice warriors out there. With some catchy riffs and melodies scattered throughout, it's still a hardship for the listener to appreciate any of the nuanced aspects of the record while being bludgeoned over the head with the narrative and antics at play. |

Stephan Jenkins is in an Identity Crisis.
The once young but introspective lyricist and lead singer of the band is now an old man and desperately trying to
stay relevant. Trading in guitar licks for beats, witty words for incessant cursing, and universal themes like love
for social justice anthems, Stephan Jenkins is a man who's lost without an Identity.
This record is a car wreck in slow motion, witnessing in real time an artist desperately grasping at straws to stay
relevant and seemingly out of ideas now that he's alienated every single band member of relevance who was a
part of their glory days. |

Love it or hate it, Jack Antonoff's hands are all over this record, and to me that's a great thing. Building further from his work with fun., bleachers and producing Lorde, Jack and Taylor team up to put together some of the most laid back yet introspective songs of Taylor's career, paired with homages to nostalgia and pop music of the past. |

One of the most common complaints for any band or artist about their career progression is that they play it safe, they don't take risks and they regurgitate a proven formula instead of experimentation. Lord Huron two records in seemed to be doomed for the same fate, but with album #3 they decide to risk it all, create a new sound, and the risk has paid off. |

Katy Perry Witness | 2.0 |
At face value, this to me seems to be a brutally calculated, dis-ingenious mockery of an album, formulated by record studio executives with a cheat sheet of do's and don't to cross off to make sure to hit every imaginable demographic with this record. From her forced usage of LGBT dancers on SNL, to her "edgy" short blonde haircut that's 4 years behind Miley, to a plethora of tracks that seem concocted during a Chainsmokers brain fart, Witness shows Katy Perry's true colors, a pop queen who's become a slave to the record industry, because she's become a championed bread winner, and her artist integrity has dwindled to the level of pier group tested and approved jingles. |

Agalloch Marrow of the Spirit | 3.5 |
Being mostly a newcomer to Agalloch, I found this to be a very interesting record. Marrow of the Spirit carries a very somber atmosphere through its entirety and I find the Black Metal growls very fitting. Songs are long and take time to develop and progress but the band excels at letting their songs build to a climax, rewarding the listener and demonstrating that their tracks have a direction and are not just aimlessly written to fill up space. I find to fully appreciate this record you have to listen to this front to back and be patient with it; this did not click for me on the first listen but after a few spins I found an admiration for the small details littered across the record. |

After the Burial return off the heels of Rareform to deliver a less technical but fun album. Anthony Notarmaso does a memorable job behind the mic, showing great range between his screams and growls, and there’s plenty of shredding with a great mixture of melody and breakdowns. |

This is the first Atheist record I’ve listened to and I enjoyed it. The vocals take time to get used to but for being the band’s first album in 17 years that can be forgiven. The album is frantic and heavy, never letting up for the 30 plus minutes Jupiter spans, which is a perfect length. |

Alexisonfire Dog's Blood | 3.5 |
Although Old Crows, Young Cardinals came out just last year, Alexisonfire have returned with an EP to please fans and possibly win over some new ones. Dog’s Blood is only 4 tracks but spans over 20 minutes with some rather lengthy songs compared to their back catalogue. Musically this is a more aggressive record then Old Crows and the vocals are a return to form for Dallas. This is not Watch Out! but leaves fans excited to see what is in store in the future. |

All That Remains ...For We Are Many | 3.0 |
For We Are Many is a great improvement over the lackluster release Overcome but not the quality of The Fall of Ideals. All That Remains haven’t changed their formula that much, lots of chugging with a surprisingly more aggressive performance from frontman Phil Labonte as well as some very well done guitar solos. Album’s weakest points surprisingly are the atrociously chosen singles. Overall a solid release from a band that isn’t reinventing the wheel, but have some tricks up their sleeves to keep things interesting. |

Anberlin Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place | 3.5 |
Anberlin continue showing consistency by releasing a solid record adding to their already solid discography. Dark is the Way, Light is a Place is a worthy addition sure to please fans with its heartfelt ballads and pop rock anthems. |
Atmosphere To All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade Holy | 3.5 |
Atmosphere nicely surprised me with this rather lengthy EP this year. To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy features 12 tracks where Slug has some interesting rhyme and I’ve always enjoyed how his songs tell stories. The biggest flaw of this EP is that it is plagued with forced and clich?hymes and lines that just seem out of place. |

Big Boi Sir Lucious Left Foot | 4.5 |
Up until Kanye’s recent release this was without a doubt the best Hip-Hop release of the year. Half of the famed duo Outkast, Big Boi has finally released his long anticipated debut record and it will not disappoint. Sir Lucious Left Foot the Son of Chico Dusty has some of the best produced tracks of the year from the sizzling club beats in Shutterbug to the operatic tones of General Patton. This is a complete album with catchy beats, great lyrics and a handful of fantastic guest spots including T.I., Janelle Monae and B.o.B. In a genre that’s been plagued by mediocre top 40 mainstream MC’s, Big Boi shows that there is plenty of fresh material to be had. |

Anathema We're Here Because We're Here | 4.0 |
Anathema’s first LP in seven years proves to be worth the wait as the Doom Metal turned Prog Rocker outfit release an album of magnificent proportions. The songs on We’re Here Because We’re Here take on epic proportions with sweeping melodies and a never ending sense of grandeur and beauty. Overall this is a very focused record with a very uplifting tone throughout. While the band thrives with its stirring tunes, I wish they would have branched out a bit more in sound and delivery maybe with an aggressive track or something off the beaten path to mix it up. |

B.o.B The Adventures of Bobby Ray | 4.0 |
It was the end of April when I was watching Coachella online, wishing I was there, when I saw a young southern hip-hop rapper take the stage with a guitar and play a 4o minute breath taking set. Soon learned that the kid’s name was B.o.B and was releasing an album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, that week. I had no idea of how huge this guy was going to be in the next few wekks and how he seemingly became the voice of the summer of 2010 with countless successful singles including Nothing on You, Magic, Bet I and the now infamous Airplanes. I had the pleasure of seeing him live at school and the show was a blast, the man truly has a blast and loves what he does. This album almost never left my car during the summer and is full of catchy tunes. I’ll be sure to have this spinning non-stop again next summer. |

Airbourne No Guts. No Glory. | 2.5 |
AC/DC, I mean Airbourne release their 2nd LP and while it contains some catchy tunes and fun for the whole family, it is quite possibly the most predictable and formulaic record of 2010. While this taken in small doses may be fun, listening to this as a whole is nearly impossible. |

I have a soft spot for Angels & Airwaves, I’ve always been a big blink-182 fan and liked Tom’s vocals and remember hearing their first single, The Adventure, back in 2005 and loving it. This year they decided to release their 3rd LP, Love, for FREE on Valentine’s Day . Continuing with their Space Rock described adventures, AVA release their most solid record yet showing consistency, something very much lacking in their first 2 LPs. The price tag or lack of has opened the band to more listeners though I don’t believe this record will win over any fans for people who didn’t like their first two records. |
