One word summarizes everything: unique!Amon Amarth Surtur Rising1.0I have to update this sound off due to the gentle reactions by some people here. Initial post: not again! Instead of spending tons of money in promoting these mediocre guys, give the money to Japanese earthquake victims! update: 1) Amon Amarth use extremely common chord progressions and their performance is average. Their sound is not original since bands like At The Gates have played exactly the same things 15 years ago. But their lyrics were not epic. 2) Amon Amarth used to play the same mediocre things lots of years ago but suddenly their label spent tons of money in order to promote these guys. ...And suddenly a miracle happened, everyone started listening to these guys. They are the perfect example of hype and brainwashing. Their ads were everywhere, in myspace, in terrorizer, in zero tolerance, everywhere, And all of a sudden, everyone liked them even though they played the exact same things in their old albums (when they were unknown). Your taste is not based on your actual taste, it is based on the label's campaign. You can not judge, thus you like everything that they serve you 3) If this album was released by a band from Panama, everyone would say it is cheesy as hell and lacks originality. I am ready for lots of F words nowChildren of Bodom Relentless Reckless Forever1.5Omnium Gatherum New World Shadows4.0Dornenreich Flammentriebe3.0Fen Epoch4.5Maybe the trippiest album ever in the history of black metalVirus (NO) The Agent That Shapes The Desert1.0I think only Rhapsody of Fire played the same things in 143 albums. Virus did it in 3 albums so far. Totally dissapointingMitochondrion Parasignosis2.52010 Agalloch Marrow of the Spirit4.0Transcending Bizarre? The Misanthrope's Fable4.5even better than their previous effort. This one is a bit more experimental but still greatSolefald Norron Livskunst3.0This is nice but that's it. Sth is seriously missing. For very good avantgarde black I would prefer the latest albums from Vulture industries or Transcending BizarreCradle of Filth Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa1.5This album is very close to being awful. Cradle of Filth present nothing new and the compositions are worse than ever. If you remove the keyboards from this album, you'll get ''Thornography''. I believe ''Darkly..'' is the worst album from CoF so far...Deathspell Omega Paracletus1.5I agree with Passname 100%. This album received tons of praising reviews since it was released a month ago or so. Personally I found it quite boring. There is no balance between descent songwriting and experimentation. The band seems to emphasize on playing different but completely forgets that music is not a race of innovation but a race of musical composition and songwriting. Here we have atonal riffs, then again more weird atonal riffs, then again atonal riffs and then maybe some descent riffs or descent bizarre melodies. For me, this is the perfect example of hype. Once some people praise an album, the others follow and the hype is created. No tune, riff or melody can stick to the listener's ear apart from minor exceptions (i.e. the last track )Igorrr Nostril4.0this is the definition of a 'what the fuck!' albumKylesa Spiral Shadow2.0Ghost (SWE) Opus Eponymous4.0Woe Quietly, Undramatically2.5Dimmu Borgir Abrahadabra4.5Mind is a a strange thing. It can make you see green colours as red, it is able to make you believe you are a dog and not a human. Some minds are saturated by jealousy (or by the need to say sth different) and really believe that abrahadabra is an awful album. It has so many new elements and so many brilliant melodies, that you cannot just bypass this album. Mar De Grises Streams Inwards3.0Nightfall Astron Black and the Thirty Tyrants3.5Very good come back from the greek melodic deathsters. I would expect more perversion in their tracks, Efthimis was quite good at doing this in their first two albums.Winterhorde Underwatermoon4.0This was a surprise! It can easily enter the great symphonic BM league where Carach Angren, Mirrorthrone, Septic Flesh and Transcending Bizarre belong toYakuza Of Seismic Consequence3.0A Forest of Stars Opportunistic Thieves of Spring4.5Vulture Industries The Malefactors Bloody Register4.5A brilliant avantgarde extreme metal album. Bjornar's voice is unique and the music is clever and catchy. Songwriting here is outstanding. The Ocean Heliocentric2.5Barren Earth Curse of the Red River4.5beautiful melodies, clever songwriting. An album for multiple listens.Black Sun Aeon Routa3.0Alcest Écailles De Lune1.5The first tracks are ok, the rest are only fillersLudicra The Tenant4.0A very good black metal album with a post-metal and progressive touch. If you are into this genre, try Todtgelichter or Klabautamann.Carach Angren Death Came Through a Phantom Ship4.5Sigh Scenes from Hell4.5A black metal soundtrack for a japanese horror movie from the '70s. This is a real cult black metal album.Todtgelichter Angst4.5Excellent progressive black in the vein of Klabautamann, Agalloch, Enslaved , Alcest2009 Elysion Silent Scream1.5Katatonia Night Is the New Day4.5Portal Swarth1.0Awful is not enough for this shit.I can write this kind of music while i pissSonata Arctica The Days of Grays4.5When other bands just sit in a chair and write rediculous riffs that everyone can compose, Sonata Arctica are making huge progress in their songwriting abilities and orchestration techniques. Some of the songs of this album are really huge and can stand up to great composers of our time. Theatrical, symphonic metal in its bestMuse The Resistance4.0ok this is not typical Muse but it is brilliant. They had the guts to do sth different instead of being highly commercial. The blend between classical and rock is astonishing!!Divine Heresy Bringer of Plagues1.5Klabautamann Merkur4.5Dream Theater Black Clouds and Silver Linings3.5The Gathering The West Pole4.0They were really good composers, they are back practicing their talent once again...beautiful songs, beautiful sounds, beautiful atmosphere. A very emotional album, almost ideal for the genre.Kalisia Cybion4.5Amesoeurs Amesoeurs1.5these kind of happy tunes are not for metal. Or at least they sound completely gay when combined with screaming vocals. Also here the songwriting is dead absent2008 Enslaved Vertebrae3.0Cradle of Filth Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder4.5Amon Amarth Twilight of the Thunder God1.0sweden has stopped producing new music the last 10 years. Amon amarth play the same easy-to-compose music that most of swedish bands play. In general, it is mainstream, commercial metal. It is awful compositions for 15 year-old listenersSwallow the Sun Plague of Butterflies1.0i dont know a lot about composition but these tracks in this album are really easy to compose. They are just major, minor melodies that resemble elevator music. really overrated and terrible album...Nachtmystium Assassins: Black Meddle Pt.11.0This album is very overrated. I have seen a big promotion behind Nachtmystium and some reviews saying that this is modern american black metal.I am a fan of all kinds of black metal but this album is so awful and poor in ideas that it makes you wonder why some labels and magazine promote it so much. Better have your ears as judges, than some others that say to you what is good and what is bad.Keep of Kalessin Kolossus5.0Darkspace Dark Space III1.0Ihsahn angL4.5Trinacria Travel Now Journey Infinitely1.0Septicflesh Communion4.5Transcending Bizarre? The Serpent's Manifolds4.5Virgin Black Requiem - Fortissimo4.5Artefact Ruins4.0A nice mixture of Keep of Kalessin and Code. Mature compositions, very good BM vocals, technical performance.Shade Empire Zero Nexus4.0Kerbenok O4.0''Kerbenok is a Black Metal Band from Germany.Their songs represent the real spirit of nature.''. This is a quote from the band's Last.fm page and I reckon it depicts accurately the songs and the atmosphere of ''O''. Complex song-structures and weird songwriting enriched by female vocals, flute and vibraphone result in an abundance of moods and a unique sound. The sound of the clean or grungy guitars and the layers between the different guitar sounds are ideal.Carach Angren Lammendam4.5I m bored of bands that just wanna copy diimmu borgir, these guys here have really their own style and most of all they are very skilled composers.2007 Gris Il Était Une Forêt...1.0Wolves in the Throne Room Two Hunters2.5Dimension Zero He Who Shall Not Bleed1.0i m bored of these 'at the gates' wannabies. A lot of pretentious lyrics, easy to compose riffs, same bullshit that i have heard millions of times from sweden. Swedish are not bored creating same albums the last 10 years (with minor exceptions)??.If their members didnt participate in some other famous bands, no label would sign them.Astarte Demonized1.02006 Wolves in the Throne Room Diadem of 12 Stars2.5Inactive Messiah Be my drug1.02005 Ordo Draconis Camera Obscura Pt. 1 The Star Chamber5.0Avantgarde black that lacks musical masturbation.
