Best ''Sophisticated'' Extreme Metal Albums For 2010
Mainly avant-garde/melodic stuff. I think that these albums stood out because of their rsongwriting. These rrrrbands have proven they are capable of sophisticated and advanced rcompositions. |
10 | | Dark Lunacy Weaver of Forgotten
Melodic death that seems similar to lots of bands but after multiple listens reveals its exceptional
beauty. Clever songwriting, choruses, couples, bridges. |
9 | | Sigh Scenes from hell
Avant-garde symphonic BM that is reminiscent of cult Japanese movies soundtracks. Brilliant and
clever use of horns enhance the atmosphere. |
8 | | Winterhorde Underwatermoon |
7 | | Barren Earth Curse of the Red River
This band includes ex- members of Amorphis. These guys created one of the best doom/death
albums ever. For fans of Paradise Lost, Amorphis, In mourning. |
6 | | Vulture Industries The Malefactors Bloody Register
Avant-garde extreme metal at its best. The vocalist has one of the best male voices out there. |
5 | | Enslaved Axioma Ethica Odini
Words are useless, everyone knows this album. |
4 | | Throes of Dawn The Great Fleet of Echoes
Awesome dark/doom metal that reminded me of Tiamat and Pink Floyd. |
3 | | Todtgelichter Angst
Progressive black in the vein of Klabautamann, Enslaved, Alcest. The psychedelic elements work
miracles for this one. |
2 | | Carach Angren Death came through a Phantom Ship
symphonic BM from Holland with a haunting pirate atmosphere. The main advantage of this one is
the unusual chord progressions, the tight performance and the vocalist that succeeds as a
convincing storyteller |
1 | | Transcending Bizarre? The Misanthrope's Fable
Avant-garde/symphonic BM , fellow patriots of Septicflesh. While complex and strange at first listen,
this album contains some of the best melodies I have ever heard from a metal album. The bizarre
vocals are also outstanding. |
