PinkleTank sets new bounds in this incredibly innovative album. "Hoopty Doopty Mama" talks about their clearly schizophrenic mother and, although she has this crippling disease, how much they love her. "Rockin' Rapper" expresses that although one may be a rapper, they can still explore other genres in a very fast pace tune. Next up, they explore their schizophrenic mother's life again, and about how they get grounded without reason or for things they did not do. I cannot express how great this album is. You just have to listen to it for yourself. |
Phil Elverum captures many different themes on this album. Many people have their own meanings for each song. I take this song as a story. Elverum has said that the first track, "I Want Wind to Blow," is about how his life was too "boring" and he wanted more to happen. I take this album as a story of a man spiraling down into a depression, and eventually killing himself, on the second-to-last track,"Samurai Sword." When Elverum talks about the polar bear in the song, he talks about the character, with lyrics such as,"You aim to drag me back down underground to gorge," and " But I'm plummeting through branches towards you now." Phil Elverum even says he's "Feeling still" in the song. "My Warm Blood" is the character's last moments, saying his last words, and recalling all what happened in his life. This album, although very depressing, is incredibly good, and in fact my favorite album, and I would recommend it to anyone. |
