3.5 great
Genesis Abacab
Genesis' first full step out of the prog rock world ended up being a pretty good one if you liked the genre they were moving into and an harbinger of doom for those who did not. The rating should clue you into which one I fall into. The musical hooks are memorable, the synths are tasteful bordering on tasty and the album rarely drags even on the longer tracks, but the weakness is definitely the lyrics. Still, the three members were clearly working as a team. If only it had stayed that way.
Pink Floyd The Division Bell
Floyd bounced back from their 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' (ha. ha.) to create this album, a mix between 90's folk-pop (Take it Back sounds so much like Joshua Tree-era U2) and their earlier work. (More, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle). With Rick Wright officially back the synth-y goodness has been slathered all over the album but Gilmour does too many solos, there are a few too many folky songs and the subject matters of the songs can be a bit heavy. (Especially the songs that might have something to do with Roger Waters). It still makes a good farewell album, especially the ending track High Hopes which is up with some of the best tracks Floyd have made.
Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii
Live in Pompeii shows Pink Floyd at a time just prior to Dark Side, when they were still performing most of their post-syd material. Apart from one pointless song (Madmoiselle Nobbs.) the rest is of a very good standard. Saucerful of Secrets shows the most improvement, possibly being the best version of the song. The whole album is lively. If you want to get others into the pre-Dark Side material this may be a good choice for you.

3.0 good
They Might Be Giants Lincoln
Yes, it might be Heresy to give this album a low a rating as this, and it's not as if it doesn't have good tracks. In fact, the majority are indeed good. Some of TMBG's best songs are found here. The issue is with the way the album has been sequenced. It really hasn't been shuffled well at all, with most of the more boring tracks following on from each other. It makes it a bit of a slog to listen to, but there's nothing stopping you from getting the album and re-arranging it whatever way you want it to be. And that's why it gets a 3.

2.0 poor
Genesis We Can't Dance
There are the makings of a good EP in this Album. A very good EP in fact. The first four tracks work well, though most of them don't sound like the Genesis of Abacab, let alone the Genesis of old. Even so, they do their job well and three of them made good singles. But the rest of the album is a boring slush; either toothless ballads or pale imitations of their 80's experimental pop. It might be sensible to boot up iTunes, download the first couple of tracks (and possibly the final track Fading Lights) and pretend that it was released that way.
