This album doesn't get the respect it deserves. This is a true masterpiece of IDM, and one of the best double albums I have ever heard. There isn't a dull moment, and tracks like Cock V10, Mount St. Michael, and Vordhosbn are absolutely brilliant.

M83 Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts
m83 may have "sold out". And although their newer releases have gained them the best part of their fanbase, their second album remains their magnum opus. Dead Cities is more polished then any sophomore effort ought to be. It may be a vain wish, but I wish that m83 would revisit their original style of music with the resources they now have at their disposal. However, I'm afraid it isn't meant to be. Anyways! Listen to this album. It is amazing!

I have listened to this album three times in as many weeks. I very rarely adhere to one album so exclusively, as I have so much material I have to listen to. I keep coming back to this album repeatedly. In fact, I just finished RIITIIR, I think I may listen to Departure Songs again. This is a serious Album of the Year candidate.

The Black Dog Spanners
Ed Handley and Andy Turner are extremely talented. Their work on Plaid ranges from fantastic to absolutely brilliant. The fact that this album is so poor emphasizes what a colossal waste Ken Downie is. He dragged this album in the mud, and continued to produce garbage for the next decade. Handly and Turner recognized this, and left Downie to his own devices and formed Plaid. Plaid is excellent. The Black Dog is horrible.

Nas Illmatic
Let me start by saying that I listen to plenty of hip hop. Now, this is one of the most unengaging albums I've ever encountered. I can't get past track three. I want to enjoy it, I really do. To be in the top 10 list speaks multitudes, but I don't hear it. I feel like this album suffers from the hype that influences all ratings on this website. As hard as people try to be impartial, their opinions are swayed by those of others. Look at the top two overall - Beethoven. Beethoven is brilliant, but those high ratings are products of hype. People know they are expected to find Beethoven brilliant, and so his music is automatically rated at a 5. The same thing is happening here. This album is not a 5, it doesn't deserve it. (My rating is pending.)

The Black Dog Liber Dogma
this is probably one of the most boring albums of all time. Ken Downie isn't a musician. He's been excreting these cold, clinical albums for a dozen years and for some reason, I always listen to them, hoping that he can recapture just a little piece of the genius that the group was capable of in the early nineties. I wish Plaid could produce albums as quickly as the Black Dog does. I guess that's the difference though. Plaid spends time on their music and produce beautiful albums. The Black Dog churns out three or four albums a year and rarely even produce a successful track, much less an album. Just stick to Plaid.
Tycho Past is Prologue
This is a rehashed version of Tycho's first album. Because he was so lazy as to rerelease 80% of his original LP, I'm giving this a 1. He had two years to produce new material and failed to do so. Pathetic.
