5.0 classic
Faust Faust IV
Gastr del Sol Upgrade & Afterlife
The best Gastr del Sol, IMO. A little more subdued and way more consistent than previous albums. Fewer frantic, angular acoustic guitar lines and more slow, angular guitar lines. Bizarre chords and beautiful melodies. O'Rourke's musique concrete and Fahey worship with David Grubbs' strangely gorgeous piano playing makes for an album of twisted Americana.
Morton Feldman Rothko Chapel
Truly haunting. Clouds of sound, slightly dissonant, developing and spreading out but maintaining a resemblance to the structure it started as - the aural equivalent of watching milk spread out in coffee in slow motion.
Olivier Messiaen Quatuor Pour la Fin du Temps
This Heat Deceit

4.5 superb
Low Trust
This one gets a bad rap but it's got some of my favorite tracks of theirs. "That's How You Sing Amazing Grace"
is possibly my favorite Low song - maybe it loses half a point for not even having that slightest touch of hope
that Low dirges usually have. Also has some of their first forays into straight-up pop: "Canada", "In the
Drugs", "Last Snowstorm of the Year".
Morton Feldman For Philip Guston
One of the best Feldman pieces for just getting utterly hypnotized. Slow, slow motion dissonances slowly stop being dissonances and become their own world...consists of hours and hours of very short (
Mount Eerie Clear Moon
Olivier Messiaen L'ascension
One of the most listenable Messiaen pieces, and a great example of his favorite Modes of Limited Transposition. He's almost like a modern group like Mt Eerie or Neil Young in that he uses melodic motifs in multiple different pieces.
Oren Ambarchi In The Pendulum's Embrace
This is great. It almost sounds like Earth mated with Jim O'Rourke's drone pieces. Not overly dark, but far from fluffy. And some of the best low-end sounds I've heard on an album in ages. Perfect for enjoying with a personal conular or coneball-shaped joint.

4.0 excellent
Pole 3
It's really great, but I prefer Pole 1 and Pole 2.

3.5 great
