4.5 superb
Burial Untrue
DJ Koze Amygdala
easily the most creative, broadest and radiant album i have listened to so far this year. anyway, i don't do paragraph reviews, but you can find my outline/sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/04/dj-koze-amygdala-review-sketch.html
James Blake James Blake
avant garde, game changer, cathartic, cubist. all of this describe what we have here. and this is a debut? JB is amazing. review sketch of the album here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/10/james-blake-james-blake-review-sketch.html
Killer Mike R.A.P. Music
not an instant, but a time release rap classic. totally underrated and underexposed album. full review sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/08/killer-mike-rap-music-review-sketch.html
Tame Impala Lonerism
what really makes this album outstanding is that the lyrical and muscial quality is of the talent from those late 60s bands, but it does more by taking those things from them, making them its own, and growing them in this era. anyway, instead of writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/12/tame-impala-lonerism-review-sketch.html
Vampire Weekend Modern Vampires of the City

4.0 excellent
Chance the Rapper Acid Rap
Crystal Castles Crystal Castles II
Love this album - a more varied and sophisticated sound compared to the debut, and i like it even better than (iii). i don't do paragraph reviews, but you can find my review sketch/outline here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/02/crystal-castles-crystal-castles-ii.html
Disclosure Settle
Floating Points Shadows
this is a great EP to chill, dance or do work to. you choose. anyway, instead of writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/11/floating-points-shadows-ep-review-sketch.html
Frank Ocean channel ORANGE
not as great as the hype would lead you to believe (consistency issues). but pretty damn good none the less. full review sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/08/frank-ocean-channel-orange-review-sketch.html
James Blake Overgrown
while jb expands as an artist in almost every direction, this is not the startling completeness of his debut. see my review sketch (i don't write paragraph reviews) here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/04/james-blake-overgrown-review-sketch.html
Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city
i am really liking this. the production is ridiculous (as to be expected) and kendrick is probably the most technically talented rapper in the game right now. so it straddles that authentic and commercial line very well. anyway, instead of writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/11/kendrick-lamar-good-kid-maad-city.html
Lykke Li Wounded Rhymes
Well written review. One point of disagreement. I think that the "juxtaposition" adds a
layer of complexity that is held together by the content of the lyrics and the mood of the
music. It instead helps improves the album in my opinion. I do a sketch about the whole
thing here:http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/10/lykke-li-wounded-rhymes-review-sketch.html
Miguel Kaleidoscope Dream
miguel is totally underrated vs frank ocean and the weeknd, but he's equally as talented and sometimes more consistent. anyway, instead of writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/12/miguel-kaleidoscope-dream-review-sketch.html
Pusha T My Name Is My Name
Run the Jewels Run the Jewels
Shlohmo Bad Vibes
really digging the moody, nostalgic electronica of this album, totally good headphone vibes. review sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/05/shlohmo-bad-vibes-review-sketch.html
The Flaming Lips The Terror
Todd Terje Its The Arps
the danceable energy on this EP is simply incredible and it's pretty cool that Terje made this whole thing with only an ARP 2600. anyway, i don't do paragraph reviews, but you can find my outline/sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/03/todd-terje-its-arps-ep-review-sketch.html
Wen Commotion
Youth Lagoon Wondrous Bughouse
darker and deeper this time around. i don't think that many tracks really stand out here, but the totality of this is still wondrous. my review outline/sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot...use-review.html
Youth Lagoon The Year of Hibernation
atmospheric, blissful, isolated, comforting, encircling, minimalist, plush. full sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2012/09/youth-lagoon-year-of-hibernation-review.html

3.5 great
Andy Stott Luxury Problems
Atoms for Peace Amok
Class Actress Rapprocher
this is a very repeatable, dreamy, pulsating album. i like. i don't do paragraph reviews, but you can find my outline/sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/02/class-actress-rapprocher-review-sketch.html
Daft Punk Random Access Memories
product vs hype can be a tough call, especially for the likes of daft punk and the marketing machine behind them. i don't think RAM is a classic, but I do believe it will hold up over time. review sketch here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/05/daft-punk-random-access-memories-review.html
Grizzly Bear Shields
Jessie Ware Devotion
Kanye West Yeezus
Lana Del Rey Born to Die
forget both the hype and the dismissals. i'm totally defending this debut album. this is a
solid pop music. if you can't see that you can't separate from the two. anyway, instead of
writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and
quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at
http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/02/lana-del-rey-born-to-die-review-sketch.html
Local Natives Hummingbird
very good indie rock/pop from a very consistent band. i do sketches more than full on reviews, and you can find this one here: http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/05/local-natives-hummingbird-review-sketch.html
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis The Heist
macklemore was right to put ryan lewis' name on the front cover. the production by him and the lyrical content by macklemore really elevate this album from otherwise getting lost in the midst of hip hop. it's a pretty good outcome for them both. anyway, instead of writing full on reviews, i do more of a sketch outline of the albums i listen to. easier and quicker to digest i think. you can find that over here at http://simmserely.blogspot.com/2013/01/macklemore-ryan-lewis-heist-album-sketch.html
