The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground & Nico
Yes Close to the Edge
I don't give out 5s like candy by any means, but this is an album that truly deserves the rating. This album is sharp all the way through, has a great lasting value, and it is a truly timeless piece.

Billy Joel The Stranger
Billy Joel 52nd Street
Bruce Springsteen Darkness on the Edge of Town

Dave Matthews Band Before These Crowded Streets
It's hard to find serious flaw with this album. After a solid debut and a fantastic sophomore album, few bands that I've seen can stay so good after 3 albums without even dropping off.

This is markedly below his previous two excellent albums, but that does not make this a bad album by any means. It is still a solid effort, and I would call it the last album of his peak.

3.5 great
Bibio Green
Billy Joel Piano Man
A solid album with some undeniable classics on it (the title track, while not beautifully
written, is even a classic). However, the rest of the album, while it is certainly strong at
points, is relatively forgettable. This is different from his later and best-known albums,
both in sound and consistency.
Billy Joel An Innocent Man
This album is meant to emulate the music of Joel's childhood- an intention that often leads to cover albums- a premise that would certainly leave me skeptical of the quality of this album. Albums of this sort are rarely good, but Billy Joel really does make it work with An Innocent Man.

Pretty overrated album. Too many weak spots to really justify anything above a 3.5 or 4, but the strong points are quite strong.

3.0 good
Ben Folds Songs for Silverman
Ben Folds Way To Normal
Ben Folds Lonely Avenue
Ben Folds Five The Sound of the Life of the Mind
Dave Matthews Band Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King
Dave Matthews Band Busted Stuff
Foo Fighters Wasting Light
Green Day American Idiot
It's a decent album, although it certainly isn't the masterpiece that it's often called. It comes across as melodramatic at times, and it certainly doesn't have much of a lasting appeal. Highly overrated.
Guster Easy Wonderful
Jack's Mannequin The Glass Passenger
Oasis Standing on the Shoulder of Giants
Rush Feedback
The Beatles Let It Be
The Black Keys El Camino
This album may have gotten a 3.5 if I weren't a Black Keys fan before this album and I didn't know just what they were capable of. rMy thoughts on this album are similar to the thoughts of many reviews that I've read; it seems that The Black Keys' effort has seriously dropped off with this album. It should say something when an album is released less than two years after its predecessor. Overall, most of the songs on this album seem to be all about the chorus and have little substance (with the very notable example of "Little Black Submarines", which is possibly the best song that they've ever come out with- it gives one an idea what the band is capable of); it suffers from something that I like to call 'singles syndrome'- when a large number of the tracks on an album seem to be designed for radio airplay, and the artist had never previously been a band about the singles (Dave Matthews Band's 2001 release, Everyday, is a textbook example of this).rOverall, this is is still a pretty good album, but it really doesn't stack up to their previous work.
The Shins Port of Morrow
Train Train
It's hard to believe that Train had real character at some point. Listening to this album and perhaps Drops of Jupiter will make you realize otherwise.
Train Drops of Jupiter
Solid title track, overall solid album. Nothing spectacular/groundbreaking, nothing too memorable, but a solid
album nonetheless.

Green Day 21st Century Breakdown
This is likely the album that skeptics expected when they first heard of American Idiot and what it was. That is, an album that is ridiculously overblown and tries to be more than it really is or ever will be.
O.A.R. All Sides
The Pink Spiders Sweat It Out
Train Save Me San Francisco
I agree with the reviewer that Train seems to be capable of more than this. While I'm not a huge Train fan, I recognize what they're capable of. I have their first two albums (self-titled and Drops of Jupiter), which, while being nothing even remotely groundbreaking, are pretty solid. I decided to give this album a shot after hearing those two. I found that I liked this album more the first time than with future listens- its lasting appeal is zero. It's inoffensive, but with that comes virtually no character. I ended up removing this album from my iPod after a while.

1.0 awful
