The fact that this is rated a 4.5 is a travesty. rAnyone out there who's just getting into Alice in Chains, Dirt is Alice in Chains defining album... it's there peak. rLayne Staley's addictions, were just as prevalent at the time. It's not when the drugs are working when things go to hell, it's when they stop working. During dirt they were working. Not that I judge anyone for what they put in their body, nor do I think that drugs are necessarily a bad thing, but that's a whole nother thing. I think it was really courageous for Layne to break everything down in "Junkhead", without lying, pretending or sugar coating anything, although it sort of sugar coats drug use, but like I said it's the truth when the drugs are working and you can manage everything. Some interpret the song as a sarcasm or mockery of drug use, but I have little doubt that it's literal, which is actually a more impressive artistic expression... I mean because to many artists took the other approach to the point of corniness. rIron Maiden PowerslaveMetallica Master Of PuppetsAnyone who rates this less than 5 should be put to death. Metallica Ride The LightningAnyone who rates this album less then 5 needs to be donkey punched. Metallica ...And Justice For AllPeople make the mistake when rating Metallica albums that they rate them against the other Metallica albums. To rate this album less then 5 is an absolute disgrace. If this is a 4.5 then what other albums are you actually going to have the gall to give a 5 too? Other then Metallica albums, I would really like to see what deserves a 5 over this album. Please let me know, I'm extremely curious to find out. This ranks in the top 15 albums of all time, with 3-4 of those albums on the list already being Metallica albums. rPeople are absolute jackoffs!!!Metallica LoadOnce again peeps rate Metallica albums by comparing them to prior Metallica albums. BTW I think Puppets, Lightning, Justice, and the Black Albums are better, but I'm sorry Load is an absolute masterpiece. If any other band put out this album people would still be talking about it. The House Jack Built, Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Cure and lets not forget The Outlaw Torn, which is such an unbelievably classic song. Ain't my Bitch, Wasting My Hate Thorn Within and the controversial Mama Said are still very good songs. While 2x4 and Poor Twisted Me are just ok. Ronnie kind of sucks though. I'm sorry you can't even make an ACDC best of album to fill just the classic songs off this album and peeps have the gall to rip this album. It's been a peeve of mine since it came out. rWhereas Metallica got accused of manufacturing an unoriginal sound, I think the sheeple reviews to the Load Albums caused Metallica to manufacture their sound for the first time and now they have a really crappy fabricated sound. It could be the whole Hetfield sobriety thing that may have screwed things up as well... don't get me wrong I wouldn't change it for his sake. rJust because they put out crap now, doesn't undue their legacy though.rGrow up people stop being such bitches and have your own original perspective when listening to music... who gives a crap what people think. rMetallica MetallicaOnce again, everyone loves to rate Metallica albums up against other Metallica albums that already rank in the top 10 of all time albums. Just because every human being had this album issued to them at birth and beyond doesn't mean you have to dislike it to keep your extremely cool image. Just admit it, the Black album is a goddamn masterpiece, just like Puppets, Lightning and Justice. Who gives a crap what people think... I won't tell anyone I promise. rOnce again if this is rated a 4.5, then what albums out there other then Metallica albums are worthy of a 5. Maybe 10 in the entire history of music, but even that's pushing it. I would like to hear the 10 that are better. Ozzy Osbourne No More TearsPantera Far Beyond DrivenPantera Vulgar Display of PowerWhat would possess anyone to rate this album less then a 5? How in the hell is this album less then a 5? How is that even possible? Have people who write these reviews even heard these albums? There's no way anyone could rate this less then a 5... no goddamn way. The entire theme music for Head Bangers ball for half a decade was from this album, because it's such a classic. This album reshaped the heavy metal world (on the heavy side) astronomically. This opened up the possibilities for metal riffs like nothing ever had before. This is such a goddman masterpiece. rThis asshole thinks it's a 4. Who are these people on this site. rAlthough this site has an abundance of reviews, this is a horrible site to get music review info from. All of the really good albums get rated lower then they should and all of the bad albums get rated higher then they should. So after all said is done, every single album is rated within 1 point of one another. They should just give a one score option for rating an album, so you can eliminate all of the bs in between. rIf you don't care for metal, what are you doing rating this album? I don't go to various country albums and rate them. And if you actually do listen to metal and rate this under a 4.5 then you should be banned from not only reviewing music, but there should be an international treaty that bans you from listening to any type of music. You are deemed to far to incompetent to listen to any form of music. Pearl Jam TenPearl Jam Vs.The Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite SadnessThe Smashing Pumpkins Siamese DreamTool ÆnimaI have to try and break the Enema Lateralus tie. rI've come to conclusion that everyone who got into Tool prior to Lateralus including myself thinks that Enema is hands down the better album (even though Lateralus is great). And most of those who got into Tool through Lateralus, think it's the better album. I actually just found this out recently. I always just assumed that Enema was unanimously considered the better album among everyone. rI actually want to go and rate Lateralus a 5 as well, but there is no way in hell I want to help it out in the Lateralus Enema debate. I stubbornly refuse. 4.5 superbBuilt to Spill Keep It Like a SecretChevelle This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In)Chevelle Wonder What's NextFlaw Endangered SpeciesMan, is this such an underrated band or what? I can't figure out what happened in the promotions department when it comes to promoting the Flaw albums, but they should have been a huge mainstream success. They basically had a high quality product and few purchased it... it makes little sense to me. rI realize most like through the eyes more, but this one has made it through way more listens for me then through the eyes and I'm still not sick of it, whereas through the eyes (although a great album) didn't hold up as long before getting bored with it.Flaw Through the EyesIt's very frustrating that this album never made it big, because it's one hell of a quality product. They really shot themselves in the foot my making Payback their big release on this album. If they picked just about any other song on this album it probably would have put them right into mainstream/platinum status.rWhat were they thinking by making Payback their release? It's probably the worst song on the album. It's a difficult album to rate because it's basically half an album. You can subtract Swing on This because it's a unanimously a crappy song. To be honest with you I rate the entire album based on the first 3 songs, because they're Classic. To be fair most people out there like No Excuses... it's honestly my least favorite Alice in Chains song and I've tried sooo hard to like it, but I absolutely detest it and of all things it was there first release off the album. The only reason why I even got the album when it came out is because a friend of mine (who I trusted musically) told me it was a great album and the fact that I was and am fanatical about the Dirt album (It makes my top 20 list of all time best albums) had an influence on me buying it even though No Excuses made my skin crawl. rIt kind of sucks that they weren't able to get more stuff out during their prime (Layne struggling with addiction and all). rYou can tell they ran out of time and scrapped together the back side (the last 3 songs), in order to get the album out. Whale & Wasp and Don't Follow turned out decent. I realize some peeps think Don't follow falls into the good category, but don't kid yourself, it's extremely simple and the last part of it's kind of painful. rOne of the only bands, who I really liked that I never got to see live, because they barely toured. rAnyone out there who hasn't heard this album (I assume 99% will be torrenting it), so basically song 7, possibly 5 (although I kind of think it's soothing) save yourself a little time and listen to a few classic songs. Alice in Chains Alice In ChainsThis is one album that grew on me. When it came out I wasn't thrilled, but there's 6 really good songs and two pretty good ones, 2 crappy songs and 1 dreadful song. I could probably go 4.5 on it. rGrind, Brush Away, Again, Shame in You, God Am and Frogs are really good songs. Sludge Factory and Over Now are ok songs. So Close and Nothing song kind of suck, while Heaven Beside you is the most retched thing I?ve ever heard!!! It completely perplexes me as to how anyone would like it. I realize some people do, but I can?t for the life of me figure out why. I reviewed another one of their songs as being their worst, but I do take it back, Heaven Beside You is much much worse. I promise that it?s not an exaggeration when I say that? it really is dreadful. I?m beside myself to even conceive the notion of that being put on a B side let alone being one of the releases off the album. Yes that song in itself single handily keeps this album at a 4, no 4.5 after all. rAlice in Chains FaceliftBuilt to Spill Perfect from Now OnChevelle Vena SeraDeftones Around the FurFight War Of WordsIron Maiden The Number Of The BeastIron Maiden Piece Of MindIron Maiden Seventh Son Of A Seventh SonIron Maiden No Prayer For The DyingIron Maiden Virtual XIMegadeth Rust In PeaceMegadeth YouthanasiaMegadeth Peace Sells...
